when clicking on a link in an email (gmail on droid), the droid doesn't follow the full link. for example, in a facebook email, the link will only go as far as my facebook homepage, and not to the actual conversation or post that the link is for.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am going to develop an Android Application but before developing it i needs to have MockUp for the Android Application,so is there any way to design MockUp/GUI Design tool for the Android Application?
I know about DroidDraw tool , but i think it is not the exact way to prepare Mockup for the android application.
I have already referred this SO Question , but overthere i just found all the tools for the I-Phone only. So please feel free to share with me if you have/found any !
I have a small doubt, Which is the best way to design UI for Android Coding or Desinging in XML? Which is better in performance?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAll the example codes, tutorials or video I see, there is always one ContentProvider per SQL Table with the SQLiteOpenHelper extension defined as a private static class... Is it some sort of standard design...to have one ContentProvider per SQL Table? Or I can define one generic ContentProvider and use its instance for ever update? Is there some issue with that? Could anyone please help as my application has like 5-6 tables.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have to create a number of tables for caching some amount of textual data, obtained by reading XMLs. These tables need to be created only once - on the initial run of the application. The data in the tables should be cleared after fixed time period. There should be a class exposed to other classes that would allow CRUD operations on this database. Googling found me some links to tutorials for creating databases and Data Access logic.
I have some questions, please help:
How many DataBaseHelper(DBAdapter) classes should I have, I am guessing only one? Is it okay to have all the SQL DDL and DML statements, DB name, Table Names as static strings of this class?
How do I ensure that the tables are created only once?
Is it possible to clear the DataBase after a fixed time interval?
Are there any best practices to be followed when designing the database?
The data in the database is to be displayed in Lists. I have data in ArrayLists(created when parsing XML) as well as Database(after these lists are persisted). What adapter should I use to back the list up? Should I use ListAdapter or CursorAdapter?
Eclipse has provided us with different qualifiers like size, ratio , etc. So when I select a qualifier, it provides us with the right emulator screen to make our layout. But are these emulators screen loaded under the right layout folder? I dont understand, how Nexus 10 which is a xlarge screen size is loaded when I load the activity_main under the Normal layout folder?
am I blindly arranging these layouts? Because before this, I had arranged all layouts perfectly and when I went to run it on a Virtual Device, it looked a complete mess. I looked at the xml files and they were completely in the wrong places.
I have used qualifiers like : normal-long, normal-notlong, large-long, large-notlong, small-long, small-notlong, xlarge-long, xlarge-notlong,Should I change the qualifiers?
What app are you using to follow the World Cup? I am testing several out right now - let me know if you know of a few that are good that aren't on the poll list.
I am using Goal.com Mobile - its really great and I highly recommend! I think the FutMob WorldCup/5.0 versions would be my next best bet in terms of notifications and news.
The idea is to allow users to download a skin packet from the android market and be able to change the skin via the main application.I assume this skin pack would contain only the layouts and res names that I would want to overwrite from the main application. How could I approach such project?

i can implement the QSB on my app using onSearchRequested() method.i have 4 column in my table. when i was type in the QSB. it will give some suggestions on the Suggestion window. how to do that? searchable dictionary example shows the dictionary provider class to retrive the suggestions. but on that no data inserted. then how they getting the suggestions. can you explain me what are the steps we have to follow or tutorials, sample codes are most thankful.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow would you go about designing a system based on arbritary zones? Think of the American states - basically the whole map is carved up into irregular zones. Then again another one might show a salesmans territory, TV stations coverage area etc. I need to be able to retrieve the current GPS position and determine which zone I'm in. I can't use an address/zip lookup - its purely based on the lat/long point. So the data structures which define the enclosing boundaries must be flexible enough to provide fairly accurate positioning. As a bonus, I'd also like to be able to render these zones on the map, maybe with different colors. Any tips/pointers to anything close to this would be very welcome, thanks.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere are certain application which are default available on Android and certain applications available freely in market place. Greader is an application not available default in the Open source package on web to download.
1) Is it legal to install Greader as an application on the devices when it is shipped to customer? if yes, what is the best way to do it? Can we simply use the apk file of Greader and install it on device? Any other better ways?
2) When the applications are built, it will also have lot of dependency on the hardware availability on device. If there is an application developed for T G1 Mobile using the GPS hardware then this application cannot work on another device which does not have GPS hardware. Since we have market place for Android today and mostly targetting for T G1 mobile, how do we ensure that users must not able to install it on devices that does not support all the required hardware for device? There are few ways to deal with it.
a) Have market place specific to each device
b) The application developers has to clearly document what is the expected harwdare for the applications to work so that the users are aware of whether would work on the device or not. This is mostly manual then.
c) Ideally we should ensure that the application installation must happen only if before installation, the compatibility check passes. This is possible only if we bring in a framework design for this structurally.
I never do graphics type programming. I'm designing a screen that will need to look good on all phones, and all resolutions. It's for displaying in a list view, and there will be a small graphic for the summary view, and a larger graphic for the detail view. Normally I use a 32x32 (res 72x72ppi).png for the summary view which looks good on my G1. The second image is for the detail view and it basically should fill the entire width of the screen (roughly, it's ok if it doesn't use the entire width as long as none of it is chopped off). The size I use for my G1 is 468x60.
So, the question for the guys that really know this stuff is: What sizes do I need to make these images to support all screens and densities with the fewest number of images? I know that the answer is a little subjective, but I remember seeing a post with a link to a page that recommended 3 different images for the different screens (and it seemed to make sense when I read it), and I think but don't remember for sure that then you would need 6 layouts to support those with both landscape and portrait orientations.
What is the best (meaning: most popular) UI Java markup language for designing applications for Google Android?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am building and designing a (mostly) read-only interface to some data. I'll be uing ASP.NET MVC to build a psudo-restful API. I'm wondering if anyone can provide some resources for building full-client applications for various mobile platforms, iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, etc. I'm thinking that serving up XML data is going to be the most simple and universal, but parsing XML in objective-C for example doesn't sound like fun to me, but maybe there are some good libaries out there to help ease this task?
In other words, what formt will be the quickest to implement on the client side? Are there any JSON parsrs for iPhone or Android? I know there are .NET JSON parsers, but not sure about other platforms -- is ther another format that might better? Or should I stick with pure XML and deal with it on each platform differently?

While programming on Android, I end up writing a parent activity which is extended by several others. A bit like ListActivity. My parent activity extends Activity. if I intend to use a Map or a List, I can't use my parent activity as superclass - the child activity can only extend one activity obviously. As such I end up writing my parent activities with the same logic for Activity, ListActivity, MapActivity and so forth.
What am I looking for is some sort of trait functionality/design pattern which would help in this case. Any suggestions?
Does the Android platform lend itself well to a particular style of UI programming like MVC or MVP? Most of my UI experience is with spaghetti code on a very old embedded device or in GWT with MVP so I do not know where to start.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have done a small app for the ADC2 and now i want to make a free light version for the Android market and one full version that will cost some cents.
My question now to all who have done something similar: How have you designed your application(s)? I have thought about a few solutions to this problem:
1.) Duplicate the code in two different android projects Not a very good idea, duplicate code is always bad.
2.) Create some sort of library to use in two different projects. With this i could share the business logic of my app, but not the activities (at least this is what i think) And using the activities from one project in another project would be great.
3.) Include all needed code (business logic, activities, ...) from one project (the full version) in my light version. This way i would achieve some sort of new "view" to the code basis. This would be the best solution i think, but i do not know how to achieve this.
So to everybody who has done a full and light version of one and the same app: How have you done this?
I have tried DroidDraw and the Eclipse layout editor and both seem very difficult to create anything other than very simple layouts. I find myself dropping back to the XML file to be able to manipulate it.
Has anyone found any good tools to design the actual screens? I am not looking for a mock-up tool... but an actual tool to create the XML layouts.
I am using GIMP to create graphics such as buttons and background but don't have a proper understanding of the process. Do I create a background and then layer it with the buttons and then save each layer separately? Do buttons have to be squares or circles or can they be stars for example? Do I need to create every background and button as a 9patch or do I just create 2-3 different resolutions? and finally where do I set things like dp?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWe wanted to follow-up. By now, you should have noticed that the installs metrics for your applications have been restored. We identified the problem as occurring with application updates only, have made some changes recently that should resolve and prevent this problem. Please let us know if this error persists.
If we can assist you further, please let us know. In my case, things have not changed at all. Downloads are increasing (1550) and active installs stabilized at 29% (the value before the drop was 44/45%). So, indeed active installs are increasing again - 29% is stable since three weeks - but the original percentage was not restored. Now, I don't know what to think... Maybe the problem is not solved, maybe in my specific case the active installs really dropped for a while (but it's curious that it only happened for a while...). BTW, I didn't release any new upgrade since then (I have a new one almost ready, but I'm beyond schedule because of personal problems) - and maybe the count would fix itself with new upgrades...
What would you do now? Is there anybody else for which the problem was not solved?

What are the best practices to design webservices for mobile (particularly Android) apps?
Personally I'm focused on using JSON (and not XML) and I try to make it the less verbose I can. But I'm probably missing a lot of things.
