Android :: Correct Procedure For Accessing Source For Stock Droid Apps?
Feb 8, 2009
How do I get the source for stock android apps. I specifically want the source for the music app and the dialer. I have tried downloading from the git repository but every attempt complains about not being able to find it. What is the correct procedure for accessing the source for the stock android apps?

I have read around a bit but I am kinda confused between different phones/versions using metamorph.
Last time I tried it and restarted I got stuck in a bootloop =P. I made a COMPLETE backup so going to give it a try shortly.
As I understand, I download metamorph from the market, move my themes into my sdcard metamorph folder, then basically run metamorph. I think BB.9 has busybox already taken care of.
I don't need to clear/wipe anything or whatnot for this to work correct, right?

Hello everyone this is my first thread, glad to be a part of this community. I am contemplating getting a Fascinate. Now I was wondering if it is possible to get stock Android on it because I can't stand all the extra stuff carriers bloat the phones with like custom UIs and Bing in this case. If it is possible to get stock Android on a Fascinate what is the procedure for that? If you now of some good tutorials I would appreciate you linking them.

I can't find a way to access the internal 8GB storage from the phone to put files there, or to open/use files there, for that matter.I can see it from the PC if I mount the Droid, but can't from the phone itself.please point out the obvious thing that I'm missing. I've tried Astro, Root Explorer, and the Files program that came w/the D2, none of them appear to allow me to access the 8gb storage.

I've synced my android repository just after android sdk 1.6 announced, but found some problem to install my apps with native code (so built by NDK 1.5_r1) then.
I tried to build NDK with the latest source code, bu unfortunately, faile again :( .
So is there any way to get particular version of android source code? for example the android-1.5r3 tag. Would be great if some command like "svn switch /foo/bar/1.5r3" is available.

When i tap on the widget the screen it takes me to shows the correct time but when I go back to the homescreen it's back to eastern. Any idea what's going on here?

I do not see any provided way to do Data and Application and UI backups.
Is there something I missed?
I am use to the blackberry which allows for backup of everything in case you lose or kill your phone.
I see you can buy RerWare MyBackup and MyBackup Pro. Does it do the job?
Any other better free tools?

My real problem is apps trying to be online like facebook, tango and such.. my subscription plan is limited so I need to stop them and allow only one app per my needs..
I know about the great app called "Droidwall" it's fine and all but it doesn't provide a mutli-profile function thus I need to tick and un-tick the wanted apps every time I connect!!
I need an app that let's me choose apps which I want them connected to my mobile data and SAVE my configures under one name to a separate profile..
Is there any app like that?

I have a couple basic questions I'm hoping I can get answered before I start messing around with different ROMs/Radios/Kernels. Before I rooted, when I felt like things were getting cluttered or had an OCD attack, I would do a factory reset. How does that work?
What "source" files are used? Is the emmc directory the only directory not "cleaned" in a factory reset? Keep in mind I'm used to my workstation/laptop experience where I would format, then install a clean version of the OS from a CD/DVD and then I would install 3rd party apps and move my data back?
Any analogies would help my simple mind! One day I did a factory reset, the decided to root. Everything went perfect. I moved some bloatware to an apps.disabled directory, then did all my customizing again. Now I want to play with different ROMs. I do however want to hedge my bets in case I ever want to go back to where I am today. I've done a clockworkmod backup.
Does that essentially copy all the phone storage (except SD Card data) over to the SD Card? If not, what is left behind. Will a clockworkmod wipe erase ALL of the on board phone storage (except the SD Card data)?

I'm using a Gemini Devices Gem1031BK 16GB tablet running Android 4.1.1 and Nova Launcher. I have 2 main problems.
Problem 1, if I move my photos to the SD card I can no longer view them on the tablet. It is as though they no longer exist, but the tablet will run Apps stored on card.
Problem 2. I keep getting "App Not Installed" messages although the icon is still present on the desktop. This happens with various apps, Candy Crush Saga, BBC iPlayer, BBC Media Player etc. The only thing I can do then is reload the app from the Play Store.

I deleted a few system apps (all the social stuff, corp directory, email, etc). In a thread on DroidXForums (this one on the unrooting procedure) someone mentioned that they could not get the .604 update without some of the bloatware. Of course, this freaked me out a bit as I would certainly like to get Froyo when it comes out. So, I went about trying to reinstall the stuff I'd uninstalled. The system dump with all the default apps is here, and below is the procedure to get what you're missing reinstalled and visible as system apps. I used Root Manager but the same procedure should work for Root Explorer. If you prefer ADB I'm sure one of the more competent terminalists here.
-Place the apk(s) of the apps on your sdcard.
-Use your chosen means to copy the apk(s) to /system/app (this will require making /system/app writable. In Root Manager just press the R/W key when you're exploring /system/app).
-You now need to change the app's permissions. In Root Manager, long press on the app (in /system/app) and click on "permissions". Then make sure that only the following boxes are clicked: User Read, User Write, Group Read, Others Read.
-Make sure you make /system/app read only again by clicking that box in the top right while you're exploring the folder.
-Reboot phone.
Now the apps should be loaded and the system should recognize them as system apps (you can verify by opening Titanium and noticing they're in red). This should make you good to go for whatever OTA comes. If you're unsure which apks in the system dump correspond to the apps you've deleted, just explore your /system/app and compare it to the system dump app list. Any apks in the dump but not in yours are what you're looking for.

I have two question to put forward:
I was very interested, even intrigued by the Maps application on the android emulator. Where can I get the source code for it?
There is a Maps Editor on the Android Market, it cannot be downloaded to the emulator. But again, where can I find the source code to that?

I purchased Vignette Camera because I liked the edits. However, I noticed there is no option to take widescreen photos (takes up the whole screen of the Droid X) like the stock Camera app. I can take a photo with Camera first, then import it in the other app, but that's just more work. Any other options or apps out there?

For the life of me I can't stand any of the sony-brand apps. After tinkering, I stumbled upon the "stock" android dialer and the "stock" music player - both of which are much better to use.
Problem is, I can't find them!
To access the stock android music app, I access it through an openhome widget. But ideally, I'd just like to have a plane-jane launcher. On top of that, I've found no way to get back into the stock dialer.
Does anybody know how to get the stock android apps to show up in the tray, so I can start using them again?
