View 8 RepliesI just recently decided it was time to root my Droid. So after spending the last couple hours reading up on things so I'd actually know what I was doing and why I was doing it, I got started. Rooting was successful. Next was installing the SPRecovery. Slight hiccup:http://sp.sholes.info/flash_image
Link is broken! and I can't find any mirrors Where do I DL this?
My Incredible is Ver. 2.1 and radio 1, what is the procedure for installing roms? Can I just install any 2.2 rom right away or do I need to find a 2.1 somewhere then upgrade? Sorry, I just don't understand and I've been reading up on this for a few days. I think I understand that the Incredible will release a 2.2 update soon, do I need to wait for that. In my adventures so far, I've been able to pretty much master backing up my phone as I've had to restore it several times now.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI just joined the the moto droid world. I came from the Eris crowd. I had rooted my Eris and loved it and am looking to root the Droid 1 soon. My only question is is how do you install SPRecovery? When rooting the Eris you would install the Recovery Image right after rooting. I have searched around and am unclear on how this is done on the Moto. Could someone please point me in the right direction.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIm new to this. I just got my droid yesterday, but Im no idiot when it comes to computers. I even did some adb commands for the first time ever late last night.(they mostly failed )I followed instructions in another thread on how to install sprecovery on a 2.1 OTA phone without rolling it back to 2.0.1 So Right now I have 2.1 OTA phone with SPRecovery. My question is what do I do next ? Install a custom Rom? I understand there is no way yet to root the 2.1 OTA. ( I found a couple posts on how do so but the update.zips did nothing for me)IF installing a custom ROM is the answer then can someone help me with that? will it install on my phone that has 2.1 OTA with SPRecover? what is a good ROM? I dont want something thats gonna lessen my GPS as I have read some roms do. Most of all Idont want to Brick my phone.btw I love this droid and Im excited to be on the android forums

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo (as far as I can tell) I've successfully rooted.I've been searching around and trying to install SPRecovery so I can backup using nandroid or whatever and install ROMs, with no luck. Is SPRecovery a file I need to download after rooting? If so, where can I find it? And after backing up, where do I find and how to I install ROMs?I know I'm probably posing questions that have been answered, but in this forum and elsewhere I cannot seem to find a simple, step-by-step set of instructions of what to do after initially rooting.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have read through the guides referenced in the sticky but I'm still a bit lost on this sprecovery and clockworkmod recovery or whatever. I've rooted my FRG22 and have the superuser permissions and have installed titanium backup. I will backup my SMS/call log/apps/etc before flashing any ROMs.
I want to now do the nandroid backup business, but I'm lost on whether to use sprecovery or clockworkmod recovery. One of the guides says clockworkmod recovery is easier. I'm not about the 1-click stuff, I'd rather understand what it is i'm doing. Where do I get either of these utilities? Which one is "better" to use?
The concept is that the utility lives on my sdcard and creates a backup image that can then be loaded if manage to flub things up going back and forth between ROMs? Is this the utility that would run when I boot the phone and press X? (Right now if I do that, I just get the phone and exclamation point, i take it because I have no recovery utility installed?) Sorry if this has been covered, I've been reading all evening, just need someone to break it down for me.
I have my phone rooted and in bootloader mode but when I try to load the latest SPRecovery through RSD lite 4.6 it says. Failed flashing process. I think I need to run the md5sum but I cant figure out exactly what to type in the command box to bring it up right. If it is a problem with one of the files, where can I download other versions? Also, while I'm at it. What exactly is the C: root directory?
View 20 Replies View RelatedI want to root my phone. Once I manually updated my D1 to stock 2.2 I wanted more. So I decided to start researching how to root my phone. Apparently I have to flash SPRecovery first before I do anything? Can I flash SPRecovery for FRG01B? I noticed on the file I downloaded, it had the ESE81 in the name.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have ROM Manager installed on my rooted Droid. I am trying to figure out the difference between Clockworkmod and SPRecovery. I'm currently running Smoked Glass v.6.0, but would like to try some different ROMs. Also when I change ROMs do I have to rebuy all my apps? Any help given is greatly appreciated as I'm still a noob.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have SPRecovery (haven't updated it in a long time) on my phone as well as the latest version of ClockworkMod/ROM Manager. I cannot install or backup ROMs because RM won't reboot into SPRecovery. Also, I cannot manually reboot into SPRecovery...power + X takes me right to the Motorola flash screen. What's going on here?
How can I check to see if I have SPRecovery installed? Sorry, but it's been awhile and although I've been rooted for a long time and have flashed many ROMs, I don't do it often any more and I'm afraid that somehow (I have NO idea) that SPRecovery may have been removed or something...even though I have the latest version of clockworkMOD/ROM Manager.
My phone is messed up. Installed sprecovery and booted up with battery issues. No service and reboots.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have read around a bit but I am kinda confused between different phones/versions using metamorph.
Last time I tried it and restarted I got stuck in a bootloop =P. I made a COMPLETE backup so going to give it a try shortly.
As I understand, I download metamorph from the market, move my themes into my sdcard metamorph folder, then basically run metamorph. I think BB.9 has busybox already taken care of.
I don't need to clear/wipe anything or whatnot for this to work correct, right?
Ive been trying to reroot my droid and get it back to 2.2, i get it to rooted 2.0.1 no issues but when i try to go from there to 2.2 I always get errors in SPrecovery, when i try to do install from SD card i get error 30, when i try to do a backup i usually get and error. I got the backup to go through once but when i try to restore I get error 20. in SPrecovery when I select /mount SD it says SD card can not be found.
In Droid root helper I've mounted renamed installed busybox and flas, ive flashed the recovery, unmounted, synced, rebooted.
seems to go through fine.
then I put the rom I want Kangerades (http://androidforums.com/roms-droid/117131-7-7-10-rom-froyo-kangerade-5-0-9-a.html) green one, I put it in the root of my SD card, reboot to recovery, backup (try to, usually fails) wipe cache, then i try to install ROM from SD card keeps giving error. ( ive tried without wiping cache, with out wiping data and withou wiping both)
and tips? is their something im doing wrong? (first time I rooted and went to 2.2 I had much less issues.
I have also wiped my SD card completely and reinstalled everything (tools etc...)
After update - can SPRecovery be loaded and run to return to a custom ROM? I apologize if this is a dumb question, but as i am at work right now - I can't try it. Not sure if you need root access for SPRecovery, or if there is another way to do it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI deleted a few system apps (all the social stuff, corp directory, email, etc). In a thread on DroidXForums (this one on the unrooting procedure) someone mentioned that they could not get the .604 update without some of the bloatware. Of course, this freaked me out a bit as I would certainly like to get Froyo when it comes out. So, I went about trying to reinstall the stuff I'd uninstalled. The system dump with all the default apps is here, and below is the procedure to get what you're missing reinstalled and visible as system apps. I used Root Manager but the same procedure should work for Root Explorer. If you prefer ADB I'm sure one of the more competent terminalists here.
-Place the apk(s) of the apps on your sdcard.
-Use your chosen means to copy the apk(s) to /system/app (this will require making /system/app writable. In Root Manager just press the R/W key when you're exploring /system/app).
-You now need to change the app's permissions. In Root Manager, long press on the app (in /system/app) and click on "permissions". Then make sure that only the following boxes are clicked: User Read, User Write, Group Read, Others Read.
-Make sure you make /system/app read only again by clicking that box in the top right while you're exploring the folder.
-Reboot phone.
Now the apps should be loaded and the system should recognize them as system apps (you can verify by opening Titanium and noticing they're in red). This should make you good to go for whatever OTA comes. If you're unsure which apks in the system dump correspond to the apps you've deleted, just explore your /system/app and compare it to the system dump app list. Any apks in the dump but not in yours are what you're looking for.
How do I get the source for stock android apps. I specifically want the source for the music app and the dialer. I have tried downloading from the git repository but every attempt complains about not being able to find it. What is the correct procedure for accessing the source for the stock android apps?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone ever had this happen? Downloaded an update after the 2.1 upgrade and I sync'd my contacts with FB. It then deleted all of my contacts. So I deleted Facebook, re-stored all my contacts and reloaded Facebook. However, now it gets as far as installing and it never stops. It just stays on Installing. However, the FB app works fine on the phone itself. Is this a Market glitch? Is there anyway I can purge it from out of my downloads section?
View 2 Replies View Relatedthe only thing i really want to do is overclock. i have the helix launcher and that's fine for me. none of the other features of 2.1 are that enticing. so i just want to speed it up a bit.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI like to keep several direct dial and direct message shortcuts on my home screen, but after installing a new ROM (in this case BB 0.8), the shortcuts are gone. It's not the biggest deal, but if I could find a way to preserve them for easy restoration when I update, that'd be great.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm getting my Droid X next Friday, coming from a rooted Droid. I was thinking about rooting the DX before actually activating it by doing the Android screen corner taps; mainly because I want to install Titanium Backup using ADB, so that I can go ahead and restore all of my apps without having to wait for a Market sync, and so that I don't have to go back into each app and set them up. My question (well... more like a couple questions) is installing an app using ADB all that safe?--I read somewhere it was kind of sketchy. And would it even be safe to outright bypass activation/setup to root and do this? Thanks!
