Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 : Update For The Market That Includes An Auto Update Feature For Installed Apps
Oct 17, 2010I have alot (and I mean ALOT) of apps on my Xperia, so I get around 5 app updates a day, which is now starting to agitate me because most of them are the same apps everyday needing updates.
Today I heard about an update for the market that includes an auto update feature for installed apps. But I, like many others, do not see this option on the market.
Does anyone have any idea how to get it? or if I can't get it, when can I?

Nov 8, 2010I updated the phone to 2.1 earlier, but it's still at 1.6... when I connected to PC Companion prior to the 'update' it said my phone was up-to date so I'm convinced I didn't actually update anything?
When should I be prompted that an update is available via PC Companion? because when I look in the phone settings and check for updates it says there's one available, but not on PCC?

Jul 23, 2010I am working on an app that will be shipped on some phones. I have been thinking about how to update them once a new version is ready. How that would work for a pre-installed app? As an initial thought I think I could pop up a message letting the user know there is a new version ready, but if I could avoid unnecessary request to the server it would be better. If a google engineer comes across this please give me a hint as you do this for Google Maps.

Feb 22, 2009I did an app called "Hello Yahoo" and today I made an update. But users said it can't be installed because the package is not signed correctly. And after that the old version can't even be uninstalled because the device thinks it is uninstalled already. I never experience that, but it is reported by many users. I do use a different keystore to sign it with the update. Is this the case? How can I fix this?

Last week I got and update alert for Google Maps. I tried to install it and got a "Install error" "Package file not signed correctly".
What's strange about it is, I already had the version it wanted me to install. Version 3.1.2. It also doesn't show up in aTrackdog but does show in apps drawer and works fine. The market shows that I don't have it installed. All other Google apps are working and show where they should. This started before the C&D order.

Aug 27, 2010Installed the leaked update minus the bloatware, and was trying to remove more, but there are a couple that don't seem to work such as PDF viewer, and News and Weather Reader.
I'm using these commands:
mv /system/app/PDFViewer.apk /system/app.disabled/
mv /system/app/NewsReader.apk /system/app.disabled/
mv /system/app/com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.apk /system/app.disabled/
Anyone been able to remove these two apps?
Motorola Droid :: Installed Update - Put Back Panda
Apr 15, 2010I gave the update a chance, for something like a week. Finally put Panda back. I had hoped that the update might make it worth it.
I have no idea what the update was really supposed to do in terms of performance but it's been a zero sum game. I don't give a flaming politician about live wallpaper or exploding gallery icons.
I like Panda's pull-outs that go across all desktops and the alphabetical pull-up. The stock phone is really lacking in terms of app organization. Photo organization too.

As for the GPS fix, I don't really see a difference. The GPS on google maps is still off, and as slow as ever, and the Navigation app works for awhile, and then sometimes will go crazy... Oct 11, 2010So I did a hard reset of my Vibrant a few days ago (delete user data). I was able to reinstall most of my apps very easily because the market still had them listed in the downloads section. The only problem is, the preinstalled apps were all reset to their original versions, and I can't update them. The two that I'm concerned with in particular are Google Maps and T-Mobile My Account. If I look at them in the market, the only control available is "Open". "Uninstall" is greyed out and disabled. Basically, the market thinks that I already have the latest version installed, even though I don't, so it doesn't give me the option to update. The My Account app is completely broken. If I try to run it, it just sends me to the market saying that I need to update it. Then of course, the market doesn't give me that option, so I can't use the app at all.

Motorola Droid 2 :: Update Installed - Browser Closes Immediately With No Error
Aug 27, 2010My girlfriend just received her Droid 2 the other day and I have been helping her set it up. There was an available update so I had it installed. Now every time we try to use a browser, any browser, it opens for a second and then it closes to the Home screen right away. No force close, no error message, just poof and it's gone. I didn't install many apps to it like my Captivate because I figured less is more for her. She added her facebook and MySpace accounts but that's about it really.
I looked all over the past few hours and found similar issues but none quite the same. I cleared the cache, cleared the data, nothing. 3G or WiFi made no difference. I tried with the stock browser, Skyfire, Dolphin, and xScope and same results across the board. I turned all location settings off and back on and back off again to no avail. I just did a factory reset 15 minutes ago and nothing has changed. I am going to do it again without allowing the Backup Assistant to do anything. I'll make a fresh google account to see if there's a difference there but I don't think it will work. It's not rooted or anything, it's pretty much fresh out of the box from only 3 days ago.
HTC EVO 4G :: Update - Factory-installed Voicemail Icon Was Showing That Couldn't Load Widget Message
Jun 29, 2010After the update, the factory-installed Voicemail icon was showing that "Couldn't load widget" message. I removed and replace it without a problem. This morning, I got a voice message and now it doesn't show the new message count in the icon.
Not a big deal, but I guess that means they updated that app (current version is V.5.1.0.30). I was hoping they would at least improve the recording quality by providing options for raising the recording frequency so it doesn't sound so "tinny".
