HTC Incredible :: Removing Applications From Installed Leaked Update?
Aug 27, 2010
Installed the leaked update minus the bloatware, and was trying to remove more, but there are a couple that don't seem to work such as PDF viewer, and News and Weather Reader.
I'm using these commands:
mv /system/app/PDFViewer.apk /system/app.disabled/
mv /system/app/NewsReader.apk /system/app.disabled/
mv /system/app/com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.apk /system/app.disabled/
Anyone been able to remove these two apps?

Please note that this can and will void your warranty and while no ill effects have been suffered, I nor this forum can be held responsible with what you decide to do with your phone. Use at your own risk! Warning! Under no circumstance should you reapply this patch over itself. I have seen two phones die over this. Dead as in, no power, no charge, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. Go directly to jail! I also recommend that you Do Not accept any official OTA while running this leak. It could lead to the same end result. Instead, its best you root, downgrade the HBOOT, and reflash with an RUU. First of all, make sure you are not rooted. So this means you will need to use an RUU (ROM Update utility) to revert your phone back to stock. You can get it from here:
http://tinyurl.com/22rotth
Run through the RUU. If you run into trouble with usb connection errors, or other troubles, you can try these suggestions. Having troubles with the RUU giving connection errors? Do this.
Go to start, and in the search/run box, type
%temp%
Delete all that you can. Make sure the RUU is not running in the background. Now run the RUU again. Once it starts to the first screen, it has extracted the files to the temp directory. You can then copy them to a safe place. It will be a long winded numbered folder, with a similar subfolder. Once you have copied it to a safe place, you can then copy adb.exe, fastboot.exe, and adbwinapi.dll from the latest SDK into it, overwriting the older copies. Then start the RUU by executing ARUWizard.exe. This fixed the problem for me.
Otherwise, you can also use the extracted files to create an image that HBOOT can load. Search for rom.zip in those files and rename it to PB31IMG.zip and put it on your sdcard. Turn off your phone and then hold DOWN volume and power to get into the HBOOT screen. Let it scan through the files and when it asks to run update, say yes and let it do its thing. It will reboot at least once during update. Once you are back to stock, you can now provide the leaked update. MD5 hash is 68518f450fd4b15c696441f5f93deff4. Link can be found here:
dinc_ota.zip
or
http://www.4shared.com/file/ON3qK3n0/dinc_ota.html
Copy this zip file to your sdcard, renaming it to update.zip. Now power down your phone. Hold DOWN volume and power to get to HBOOT. It will do its scanning thing. If you still have the RUU on there, say NO to updating and NO to rebooting. Once you get to the menu with fastboot, recovery, etc. choose Recovery. This will boot you to the stock recovery with an image with an! Hold UP volume and hit power. This will take you into the recovery menu. Choose apply update.zip, navigating with volume keys and hit the power button. Let it do its thing. It will then say reboot to finish. Navigate to reboot and hit the power button. Let it finish. It will reboot several times during the update.
That's the easy part of installing it. You can also root it with unrevoked tools (3.1 is the latest). Having Market Issues?

It is recommended you do NOT install any third party kernels until new source has been released.
Going back is NOT as easy and I will list this in another thread located here:

When the official OTA update hits it will possibly include froyo but there is also a chance (maybe 50/50) that it will lock us out of root. If it doesn't this post is a moot point. Now you can't get a rom with the leaked update because of the change in radio performed to the phone, but you could always get a rom with just stock froyo (w/sense) ripped from it.
Meaning: If the update closes the "hole" to root, you will have to revert to stock, install the leaked ota update, than install the stock froyo rom after someone rips it for us. So just a heads up for those that have the leaked update, just sit tight and see what the future holds before you uninstall something you may need.

So I just got done installing the leaked OTA and rooting my phone, but now I've read conflicting reports that when Froyo comes out in a couple weeks, I won't be able to install it without going back to stock 2.1. Even worse, going back to stock means erasing all the data and apps on my phone. I was under the impression that one could use Titanium backup to make sure all apps, data, and settings can be re-imaged to the phone, but then I realized that Titanium only works if you have root, which I won't if I go back to stock. But when the official update comes out, how do I install it without losing all my data? Why can't I just install it on top of the rooted OTA update OS?

I installed the leaked 2.2 update and got it all working. Not being happy enough with how it came out I started playing around with my Titanium Backups and system settings. (I was trying to restore system settings so I wouldn't have to go through everything again.) In any case, I took benchmarks while doing this, because I didn't want to gimp my now much faster dinc.
On a stock 2.1 my Quadrant score was around 530. With the 2.2 leak my Quadrant score was around 1050. After restoring some 2.1 system files my Quadrant score was 1213. Of course, my phone became a bit unstable. Somebody with more free time needs to sit down and play around with this. A few tweaks and the Dinc could really fly on 2.2.

I just went to the market this morning to see if there were any updates in the downloads option, but didn't see any, which is odd since I haven't updated any apps in 2 days. So I checked appbrain, and at least two of the applications I have installed have been updated. There's either something wrong with the market, or my phone. Is anyone else having this issue?

Got several issues on my Dinc when I booted this morning. Here are all the symptoms I see:
1)None of my downloaded applications are recognized as installed-I only see the factory-installed apps in the app launcher
2)Settings->Accounts&Sync gets FC (com.htc.settings.accountsync)
3)Settings->Applications: While I do see all my downloaded apps in the list, the icons don't load for them, and when I click one, I get an FC on com.android.settings
4)Phone storage/SD Storage numbers look good
5)When I boot, the notification bar shows "Preparing phone storage", followed by "Preparing SD Storage" as it normally does, but the Sync icon only flashes for a second.
I'm running stock 2.1, no root...just a normal every day phone user. Was reading articles with the Time Magazine app prior to shutting down for the night. Had plenty of battery left, so I didn't even plug it in.

So I have a general question about manually installed applications, and more specifically, beta applications.
If you manually install a beta version of an application, can you install later release versions for that application as updates from the market? Or do you have to uninstall the beta version, then install the market version? I realize that you don't get update notifications, but I'm not concerned about that. I check the market regularly.
The reason I ask is I would prefer to not have to configure applications twice (specifically Touchdown).

I did the update.zip to get froyo and I'm convinced there's a lot of bugs (battery usage, constant rooting, etc) and I would like to just receive Verizons ota. how can I do that? Would I need to go back to 2.1 first?

I've been meaning to ask this for a while but haven't got around to it.When you uninstall an app from your phone, via the market, that is the app entirely removed from your phone, isn't it?Is there any way of removing the previously installed apps from your downloads list on your market? Or are they there for your reference?

I have a new phone, that came with android 5.1 (Ice cream sandwich) and it came with a trial of plants vs zombies. I enjoyed the trial and tried to upgrade, and it just gave me a network error. So I went to the google play app store, and bought the full version there. But now I have two copies installed, one that is still the trial, and one that is the full version. How I can remove the trial version from my phone?

I was sitting at my desk and work and saw the "System Update" notification pop up on my phone. I grabbed my phone, stood up, and showed my coworker. Unfortunately, in doing so I accidentally pressed "Update Now." I had planned to post-pone the update until I got home so I could Unrevoked Forever and S-Off. It's currently in the middle of installing (little ! icon w/ the Android guy next to it). I guess I'm going to lose my root. Any idea how long I'll have to wait to gain it back?

I have finally figured out how to root and flash new roms. I have the xtrSense and love it. But my question is this. How do I remove some of the apps at were included on the rom (ie.- amazon mp3, original calculator, footprints)? These are apps that I don't and/or won't use and can't see wasting the disk space.

There are so many apps in the market and I don't trust all of them. Is there a way to remove some permissions of the already compiled APK? It doesn't matter if I cannot sign it anymore with the original certificate of the developer. And is there also a way to add an error-handler into the .apk-file, so that the errors of the requested permissions will also be suppressed?

i've searched around here trying a find an answer and I can't seem to find anything. I was wondering if there was a way to take the applications that are in the drawer and move them to a folder. I don't like that fact that I have all these applications in the drawer, it gets too congested. I would just like to put them in a folder on on of my home screens so its a little bit more cleaned up...

Everything seemed perfect after I downloaded the update until the moment I turned on the stock music app. I use System Panel, and when I went to end the app it continued to play. I shut my phone down and re-booted only to find the problem still existed. I downloaded Advanced Task Killer with no luck. After a little bit of anguish over having to re-customize my phone I decided to do a Factory Data Reset. Still no luck! I spoke with a tech over at VZW and both reps I spoke with were completely baffled. They said since it's an HTC built app that they would have to fix the issue and to give it a couple of days.

Prior to the 2.2 update if I was streaming music (Pandora or similar) or listening to MP3's (HTC's music player) while I was using the Google Navigation feature to get somewhere, my music would fade out when Google Needed to give me driving instructions, then fade back up afterwards. This was a brilliant feature to me. Yesterday, I found myself using music and navigation for the first time since my late Friday 2.2 update. Now, it appears I have to choose what I want to hear. If music is playing and the navigation needs to give me instructions, it just stops the music altogether - it doesn't start back. OR I can mute the navigation instructions and just listen to the music. But they are working together the way they used to. I haven't received a phone call while playing/streaming music to see if this issue goes with that too. I'll check it at home tonight and see and report back.
