Android : Breakpoint Do Not Hitting During Debugging

Android :: Service Auto Restarts On Breakpoint When Debugging A Service
Jul 22, 2010I am trying to run the sample soft keyboard included in the SDK. I am using the debugger, and the literature says that to use a breakpoint while debugging a SERVICE, I need to include:
android.os.Debug.waitForDebugger();
So here is the portion of the code I modified:

I have put a couple of breakpoints, at the statements indicated by the comments.
This is what happens: the debugger first stops at the breakpoint1, for a few seconds. But then the service restarts. For the life of me I can't figure out what makes the service to restart.

Jul 4, 2010I have a setup view where the user can enter their name and email and click done when they are finished which navigates them to another activity1. When they are in activity1, and they hit the soft back button on the phone, it takes them screen where they entered their name and email. However, the name and email EditText fields are blank. In the view where the name and email are entered I looked to see if onStart, onCreate, OnPause, onResume,... where being called after the back button was hit, but they are not. Do you know how I can make it so that the EditText fields have the information that was previously entered.

Jun 16, 2010So let�s say I am surfing Phandroid Evo 4G forum. I�m at the bottom of the web page and click on a post. It opens up, I read it and then hit back. Instead of returning me back to the bottom of the web page it always puts me at the top. Then I have to scroll all the way back to the bottom of the page again. Is there any way after hitting back that it could return me back to the bottom of the page, or from where I left off? My iPhone 3GS always did this and there has to be a way to do on my Evo.

Nov 9, 2010New to the forum and the reason I signed up is I can't seem to find anything online about the problem I'm having with my HTC Desire. I am running a custom Froyo ROM (DeFrost 5.1) with ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7. My issue is that sometimes when I'm in an application (as far as I can tell, any application..haven't been able to pick up on any patterns, other than I have to be in the app for more than about 15 seconds) and I hit the home button, there is about a 5+ second delay before the phone reacts. While I'm waiting, the current app is fully functional as if I hadn't done anything although after waiting it will do it's usual process to get back to the home screen (fluid animation and everything). Hitting the home button multiple times seems to make the process go faster, although there is still a delay (the sense of it happening faster could simply be that I'm doing something instead of just sitting there too and it's not a real decrease in the delay). I have Launcher Pro Plus installed with "Keep in memory" and "Use homescreen caches" options enabled to try and make the home screen react faster. Memory usage preset is set to "High" and Homescreen cache type is set to normal. The weird thing about this is before I installed the custom ROM, I was experiencing the same thing with Android 2.1 w/ Sense UI since I got the phone (got it end of August) and if I remember correctly happened both with and without Launcher Pro installed (didn't know about the memory settings in Launcher Pro at the time so they were at default then). Is anyone experiencing a similar issue and/or does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? I really like Android and truly want to love it, but things like this just keep getting in the way. If it's an OS issue then Google really needs to work on this as it really is nuts when you want to switch apps to wait 5+ seconds before even getting started.

Nov 9, 2010I need to develop an application with downloads the data at the background and update about the progress in the front.
I guess this can be achieved using services and activity and passing data in between the. But, what I need to do is even if I hit back button and then start the activity again. It should check if the service is running or not. If service is not running it should start one else it should display the data from running service.
Something like music player where music is played by a service at a background and activity displays the information. Even on browsing through other activities of the application or hitting back, state of the music player is maintained.

I can be in any of a number of apps, and when I hit 'home' or back out of it, 20% of the time I get the white HTC evo screen and then it will redraw as if i had rebooted.I'm currently backing up in anticipating of doing a factory reset to see if that helps, but would love to avoid the hassle if I can figure out whats causing this beforehand.

Sep 20, 2010I've got a Nexus One running a debug version of my application, and I just today downloaded and installed the 0.9.8 version of the SDK tools, and I swear that Debugging latency has increased incredibly. I never bothered to measure the overhead before the upgrade because I always found the phone's debugging overhead to be small enough to not affect matter. Well, now I have AI code which runs at ~10 MS standalone taking 300-400MS through debugging. A 40X performance loss is not something to cough at. Is it just me not seeing the performance loss previously, or has something broken?

May 18, 2010I have an app which, for the last 12 hours or so, I can't NOT launch in debug mode on my handset. No matter what I do, it shows the "Process ... is waiting for the debugger to attach" dialog, and the process appears with the little green bug icon in DDMS. Never seen anything like it.Here's what I've tried: - Using the "Run" command, not "Debug", from Eclipse (duh) - Rebooting all hardware - Doing a clean install on the handset - Setting android:debuggable="false" in the manifest.That last one's freaking me out. If I can't turn off debugging for a production build, I can't distribute the app. And it's currently my top earner in the Market.Anybody got any ideas? About the only other thing I can think to try is a clean reinstall of Eclipse and the SDK, but that's enough of a PITA that I'm hoping I don't need to go that route.
