Android ndk is hard to use for the old autoconf based code, so i employed scratchbox2/emdebian to have a complete build environment. can i build a shared library in emdebian (arch is armel) and then use it in android?

I'm looking for some input on how to go about a problem I have. We have a device that has binary data that it needs to send out (they are mainly just symbols, but in a custom binary format) over ethernet. I need to intercept this data on the phone and display the symbols over google maps. I'm just wondering the best way to go about this, I have a few ideas but am not sure if they are possible or feasable: 1. Is it possible for the phone to connect directly to the device if the device had some sort of server running on it, then poll for new data? If so, what is the protocol needed to be able to direct connect like that? 2. Perhaps modify the device software to send data to the phone(s) in SMS data message format? Im not sure if it is possible for software to "spoof" an SMS to a phone when it is not a phone itself? 3. Have the device software upload all its binary data to a ftp/http server that is sitting out there somewhere, have the phone(s) connect to that server and poll for new data periodically? I'm brand new to android development, basically all I want to do is grab this binary data from the device on my phone and parse/display it over google maps. How do any of those ideas sound, or is there a much easier way I am overlooking?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have read the documentation on "supporting multiple screens" but can't seem to figure it out. I mean, i understand that resolution effects it but it just doesn't make sense to me that the droid and the T-Mobile G1 both use the regular "layout" directory. I developed the app on a droid and got everything to work but there is one view that i need to use hard-coded pixels.....which im using dpi. Now when installing the app on the G1 things on that view are getting cut off because the G1 has a much smaller screen. If I redo it to work on the G1 then everything is all squished together on the droid and even tho everything is visible this way, it looks silly.
I tried using the different attributes in my manifest but that didn't help but since i'm using minSDK as 4, the support different screen size attributes are true by default anyway.
Am i missing something very simple and obvious or is it just the way it is?? Isn't the physical screen size of the G1 like an 1" smaller?? I'm still kinda new to Android development so forgive me if i am missing something simple.

I have friends that have iphones and I was wondering if there are any other apps that are compatible with eachother, only one I know of is "bump". I'm not talking about apps that are both available for each, but apps where you can play games with eachother, GPS locators ect.

I really like the performance I'm getting now that I'm rooted but Pandora is a must have for me - so if I can't get it fixed I'll have to go back to stock - BOO. Does anyone know of a ROM that gives the same audio quality as the stock 2.1 OS? Or does anyone know if I'm maybe just doing something wrong?

(Obviously) but despite its ugliness, I just love the fact that I can send video and if its too big, it redirects me to edit length. I am currently running handcent and handcent does not redirect me to video edit lite. So my question is what messaging ap will allow me to send videos the same way the stock app does? Another thing is that I can't even view videos sent to me from handcent, and almost every mms is sent as a slideshow (on both messaging apps). Is there any way around that?

I am very interested in the new clip/holster case combo for the droid but i also use the car mount unit daily. I was wondering if the case will still work with the dash mount or will i have to remove the case every time...
This is a deal breaker for me and im sure lots of people will use the navigation with the dash mount but this will stop lots of sales of the clip/case combo. hopefully seideo or someone will think of this and make a case that will work for both belt clip and dash mount. Looks like the protection film guys will get lots of business from this.
