Android :: Battery Indicator Showed Question Mark / Not Charging
Aug 9, 2010
I dunked my Moto Droid as I fell into a pool this weekend. I probably tried to boot it too soon after that happened, but now a few days later it is operational. Theres a few flecks in the screen display but otherwise I cannot notice any serious deficiencies in the interface. The one major problem I am having however is with the battery. Obviously, it got wet as well, and when the phone did become operational again, it indicated about 50% charge and went down from there as I used it. After it powered down though, when I plugged it in to charge the battery indicator showed a question mark and I can no longer charge it. The Droid will operate when plugged into a wall outlet only (not my computer). Is it possible that replacing the battery is the only necessary fix?

I just bought the Droid today and am having problems with the charger/battery? I used it all today after purchasing it until the battery ran down. The entire time the battery icon had a question mark instead of the actual status (which I thought was odd at the time). I plugged in my Droid after it died and it turned on, but it doesn't seem to recognize the charger.
I've had it charging for the past few hours, but I still cannot unplug it without it immediately turning off and the battery level is stuck at 5% (the battery and question mark is still in the corner too). For clarification, when its plugged in to the charger, the phone will turn on and function. As soon as I unplug it, the phone turns off.

Was there no addition of a battery charging Indicator in the OTA? I only get a solid red light when my battery is below 15%, blinking green for notifications and a solid blue light for missed calls.

Don't see this reported anywhere yet, but my LED doesn't show any battery charging status. Its a little bit annoying, since I don't know if the phone is charging or not until i turn it on. Any clue what's going on, or if there's a hack/setting to fix it?

I've noticed sometimes my Incredible battery indicator stops showing the charging symbol but the orange LED is still lit, and if I go to my About Battery, it says "Discharging" rather than "Charging." I don't do anything to the phone to cause this, but would love to know why it's happening if anyone knows.

Battery Left was the first thing I installed on my phone when I got it. My battery life has been terrible so I've been trying to track down the problem. I woke up today, unplugged my phone and didn't touch it for an hour. Battery Left says I have 70 percent left but the battery meter in the status bar showed full. I uninstalled battery left and installed Battstatt and it shows 90 percent (2 hours later). Anyone else have problems with battery left? I hope this fixes my battery problem.

yes, it is . I charged it up Sunday night. Monday evening I still had over 60%. Monday night I did not plug it in, I tuned off 3G though. This morning the battery status still showed ~60%. So what did I do (or what did I NOT do)?
(1) I did not do the battery discharge-recharge thingy. BTW, if you really *fully* discharge a Li-ion battery you will kill it.
(2) I did not download any task killer/manager. This is supposed to be a smart phone to kill things when needed.
(3) I do not use the Home button at all. I always use the back button. my awake time is about 10%
(4) I do autosync, but my WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS is off.
I admit I am not a heavy user, though I have used up about 50 Mb data in 2 days. Peter

I have just bought a Hero and am charging it for the first time, but as the phone is off I cannot tell if it is charging or not. Is that normal. There is no light for sign of charging. Should there be?

I have a Motorola Milestone with Android 2.1. I'd like an app which shows the battery level in the notification bar. Nothing fancy, no estimation of remaining battery life nor fancy eye candy. If it can show a more precise reading than the Milestone built-in one, which only decreases in 10% intervals, fine, but only if this isn't a drain on the battery. I know there are several such apps, but which do you think is the best for my needs? There are so many it's hard to try them all and choose. I just want something basic and simple which doesn't drain the battery. I tried "battery indicator" and "battery status pro"; they both do what I need, but I'm afraid they might be an additional drain on the battery.

Has anyone noticed an increase in battey drain while using the Lookout Mobile Security app? I noticed my battery drain was a little higher than usual today. I also have an app called battery indicator installed and was wondering if those apps cause higher battery drain also?

I've had a Droid X2 for almost 2 years, and as phones usually do, the battery life became pretty bad. It would get to 5% and then quickly die halfway through the day.
I purchased a new battery, and found it to be just as bad (supposedly). It would be down to 5% by noon without much usage, so I thought maybe the problem was with my phone and not an old battery. I'd just turn it off or try to find a charger...
It took me a few days to realize that it lasts hours past when it gets to 5%. HOURS. It reached 5% at about 1pm EST today, I used it my whole commute home on the train, made a two 5-10 minute phone calls this evening, and now past 9pm it still hasn't died.
So, it's not the battery. It's not the worst problem to have... but it would be really nice to know how much battery I have left.
Note: I rooted my phone about 1 week before I got the new battery.

I absolutely love this app! They just updated the app so that it will log what's using the battery. The app will now provide you with battery power left depicted in time by usage, for example heavy usage. I'm loving the update. Also, if you have the app log everything that's utilizing the battery, you will see a decrease in battery power. So read the tips/hints the developer included with the update before having the app log everything.

Please do not move this posting because this is only applicable to the EVO. The app Battery Indicator Pro received an update that will tell you how long before your phone is fully charged so you can pull your phone from the charger right at green light/fully charged. Nobody should experience the 5% dropoff in battery power using this app. If you can't pull the phone off the charger as depicted by the app, I don't know what else to tell you.

I've got a G1 that is rooted and currently running Cyanogen 4.2.9.1. Here's my n00b questions. In the upper notification area how do I disable the digital clock and the battery indicator? The answer should be the same for rooted vs non-rooted so hopefully that's not an issue.

Anybody notice that the stock battery icon doesn't turn amber when it drops to 29% and below after 1.47.651.1? I use the app "Battery Indicator" and I see when I drop to 29% or below in the battery, Battery Indicator turns amber, but the stock icon does not.

I recently had to do a factory reset and I lost all my apps. One of them was a text battery indicator that put a 1x1 icon on my screen that was transparent and just said "ninety percent" I can't find it at all in the market. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and remember the name?

I didn't see a thread in here discussing this, but I'm using a battery percentage indicator that shows the percentage in the status bar. I just want to get an idea of what everybody else is using. The one I downloaded from the appmarket is cool for being free, but if anybody has recommendations, I'd love to hear them. I really want the one that HTC makes, but it's only available for the N1 and Desire right now. Post up the different ones being used.

Lately I've had a problem with the Battery in my Desire. When I charge it, the fist 10-20-30% of my battery just drains in no time. Like this morning, it was fully charged when i left home, and i have around 15 minutes to work. The phone was just laying there while i drove, and when I got here it was already down to 94%.I looked through my calendar, and then it was down to about 90%.It's been an hour since then, I've only used it for a few texts, and now I'm down to 79% battery left. With the kind of use I've had today, my phone would normally be around 98% at this point. There should be nothing running in the background, and no other syncing than a bare minimum.Spare parts tells me there's been basically no use.Trafficstats doesn't show any unusual traffic. It's like the battery is just draining itself for no reason.Been like this for over a week now.Any ideas to what I should do?
