Android :: Avoiding Duplicate Contacts With Gmail / Microsoft Exchange

I have Gmail set up on my Nexus One (personal email). I also have Microsoft exchange setup (work email) and both work fine. The problem is that under my contacts there are duplicate entries both for Gmail and Microsoft exchange. That is causing some problems with my SMS app (duplicate contacts) and wanted to see how I could avoid syncing Microsoft exchange and delete it from my contact but still keep it on my phone. I have already unchecked the box to not sync my contacts but did that after adding it.

I have been getting duplicate entries for my exchange account contacts and calendar events. As many as 3 per contact and event. I have tried deleting the account and set up again, but it will happen again a few hours later.

I am currently showing a notification. When the user clicks this noticiation, the application is started. The notification persists, to indicate that the service is running in the background.

However, I have detected a case where a bug appears. If the user starts the application through clicking the normal icon, and while the activity is running clicks the notification, then a new activity is started without the earlier one exiting, the later being on top of the earlier. And that is not all: Further clicks on the notification will create additional activities and place them on top of those already running. How can I prevent this? Is there a nice check to do to see if a certain activity is currently being shown or is loaded?

I have some images in my drawable folder and they have landscape versions in drawable-land. However I want some of the landscape images to be shared, as it seems a waste to duplicate the file with a different name. Is it possible to make a sym link (shortcut) or something for one of the duplicated files to prevent wasting space

I have an HTC Incredible - all set up for the past two weeks without any issues with Microsoft Exchange and company email. All of a sudden, nothing is working. My yahoo account works - I can send and receive with out a problem. I just can't receive. I can send email from the droid (company email) back to my Microsoft Exchange account without any issues. Something isn't in sync. I have tried pulling the battery and trying to resync.

I know with Android 2.x there is the ability to tap into Microsoft Exchange, for at least email, if not calendar and contacts. I would like to see how this was accomplished. Particularly because Microsoft Exchange exposes SOAP web services, and I understand there is no native Android support for SOAP. Since this is open source, shouldn't I be able to find something in the Android source? If so, can you point me in the right direction of where to find it in the ~4Gig (!) source? I want to develop an application that accesses Exchange contacts and calendars, but don't want to reinvent that piece.

I was wondering if anyone is having difficulty with Touchdown or the native mail app in syncing with their work email through microsoft exchange. For some reason older mail disappears in both the native mail app and touchdown. Sometimes I would see an older email I kept and then it disappears. I have set it up so that email only gets deleted from our servers when I say so. I'm also running 2.2 Froyo. Also in the native mail app, I have deleted an email but it comes back, it never gets deleted. A little frustrating to say the least.

I just made the switch from ios to android yesterday and so far I love my S3 and android. The only problem I have at the moment is I can not figure out how to setup my corporate email. I used the same settings that I had on my iPhone. I'm attempting to attach a screen shot for reference.

I have recently purchased sony xperia X10 (android operating system). I want to get it sync with Microsoft Exchange 2007. I got the problem doing so.I have entered the mail id, password and server address but the error message taping on screen is "please provide detailed server information.(0)" sometime "please provide detailed server information" I was using windows phone earlier and it was working fine, but it is not getting activated on moxier sync or android. Use mail exchange and works great but has a small, but my big problem, can not receive (open) attachments, hours and hours spent I am hoping that I'll fail to find an answer but nothing. It is interesting that the attachment can be sent without a problem, but not receive. The incoming mail click on the download attachments on it apparently does not take it but not on an SD card or the device. I am hoping that the problem could possibly solve the master reset the device does the same and in the end we create an even bigger problem ... now can not even set up mail or use a browser, entering the same does not happen is absolutely nothing! tried to erase the memory of browser and other features, but nothing goes the better!

Recently my exchange calendar has shown duplicate entries for the items. It started as two entries and now it is three. I have disabled the calendar for a week, but they showed up again after I re-enabled it. I deleted my exchange account on the phone and re-added it - no changes. How to get rid of the duplicates? I don't have an issue deleting the exchange account from my phone and removing any data files - I just need to know what to remove to clean it up - before I re-add the account.

Android default email client when connected to office wifi doesn't sync my e-mails while if i configures my exchange account in enhanced email it works absolutely fine and all my emails starts syncing on same office wifi.
I was having an offline chat with my system administrator and he told me that they have blocked something to avoid IP pool full issue ( new users were not able to connect to office wifi as almost everyone was using two IP, one on smartphone and one on laptop).
Question is how enhanced email client is able to sync? Can i make some changes in default android email client to make it sync.? My Edge connection is too slow to download emails and can't switch to 3g as it is a company provided connection.

I got my Desire on the weekend, everything going well but I have a little problem.
I have added Gmail as may Mail program and it all works fine from the Desire but when i log into Gmail via the web on my PC I have duplicate emails for any I sent via the phone. I checked with a few people and they didn't actually receive 2 emails so now I am a bit confused as to why I get 2 in my inbox. I have a feeling it might be to do with Imap but if anyone has sorted this out?

I'm on HTC tattoo, and my contacts are duplicated on the people application. This is strange, as they all say phone contacts (thus aren't sim or google contacts or anything), but on view settings, it says I have 300 or so contacts which is how many I have if they were NOT duplicated. I have tried restarting my phone. For some reason, it shows fine then when it loads fully, the duplicates are back. I also noticed that only contacts synced with Facebook seemed to be duplicated, though not all synced are duplicated. I have attempted deleting one of two of a same contact, but this resulted in the other entry being deleted too.

I am getting duplicate contact entries in most apps. I look in my contacts list, and there aint no duplicates at all. Nor are there any on my Gmail account. But when I go into chompsms, or handcent, or even ringdroid, it shows up multiples of the same contacts. Any way to fix this?

I am looking for an app to sync my D2 contacts to my Microsoft Outlook 2007 address book. Free is preferred but am will to pay for it as long as its not too costly. I was able to do this easily with my Blackberry and now I am part of the Droid nation and need to be able to do it with my D2.

This is my first post on the androidforums. I usually just read what other people wrote, but I can't seem to find a related post for my current problem.I date someone overseas in S. Korea, and since there's no way to send text msgs in Korean from here, I talk to her using activesync with a gmail account. She can check emails on her phone from Korea, and my phone sends me notification everytime I get an email from her. Basically it's same as texting except it allows me to type in Korean and doesn't cost a dime.For the reasons mentioned above, saving battery life isn't much of an option for me. I need to have activesync or gmail push running instantly. I tried using "check email every 5 minutes", but just imagine having to stay idle for 5 minutes everytime you text with your friends.
As of today, gmail push on android seems to work with 5 - 30 minutes delay (or manual refresh). However, Exchange Activesync will not even allow me to sync gmail (Different errors every time even though I'm putting the same information; gmail address,m.google.com as server address, username & password). I thought activesync just allows me to use "gmail push" on HTC mail app, so I don't quite understand why gmail app works (despite the lag), but activesync won't even let me sync my mail. Activesync last worked on 06/17/2010.Also, gmail push works with no lag when I'm on wifi. Is this normal?I'm starting to think there's a problem with the Sprint network or my phone. Gmail push also works instantly if my 3G bar is white. If it's greyed out, no emails come until the 3G bar turns white. Now I have to turn on AIM or MSN messenger to keep the data flowing and manually keep the 3G bar white. Then gmail push comes instantly. It's pretty ridiculous because the battery then lasts about 2-4 hours.

Yesterday I went into my Gmail account and changed a setting, I think under the accounts/forwarding tab, and now every time I receive an Email in my Hotmail account, which is my primary one, I get duplicates. Two of every Email come in. This is rather annoying and clutters up everything, so I'm trying to figure out what setting dumbass me changed and how do I change it back.

For me the Nexus one integration to MS Exchange is working fine except for one little problem. Although my inbox emails are getting push notified, I'd want an ability to choose other folders to get pushed also. I do not see any setting for that.

I have checked my contact and have no duplicates, although I did find some with linked contacts which I have since deleted. However every time I open up the SMS app and try and search for a contact it display each contact about 5 or 6 times. I have checked the people app and I am certian that there no duplicates. I don't use facebook so no contacts there and I dont sync gmail contacts. remove these duplicate entries

Ok so I accidentally imported my sim card contacts into my phone twice. Now while I have hidden the sim card contacts so everything looks ok on the people screen, if i go into a contact and look at what it is linked to there is 3 versions of the contact all on the phone and all just with the number. Is there an easy way to sort this out? or should I just delete all my phone contacts and import from sim again?
