View 21 Replies View RelatedI have wanted a smart phone for a while now. I originally leaned towards an iPhone, but I don't like the fact that you have to have a Mac to develop for it. This lead me to download the Android SDK and begin messing around.
I do want to get an Android phone soon, so I can really test my code on the actual device (and just to have a smart phone =P).
I'm looking for a balance between value and power/functionality/features. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. What are your experiences? What do you use? Would you suggest what you use? If not, what would you suggest?
Is there a good hockey application for Android? I know there are a few all-sports apps but I wondered if some of you hockey fans could chime in on your favorites.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Epic 4G and I can't stand the phone app that came with the phone. I tried installing phone dialer and while a little better it still not that great. I had an Evo before and I actually liked that phone app as well as sense all together but I won't go there.
So any recomendations for a better phone application? I'm willing to pay.
I've been using google nav more recently and saw that there is a "car dock mode" for android. Can we access this on our Vibrant?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo, after three long years with my Samsung Alias, which I bought before it was popular enough to get the fancy Alias brand name, I am upgrading to the Droid X. This is my first Android phone and so I am wondering about what the "essential" Android apps are. What finally sold me on switching to Android was the Endomondo sports tracking app. I was contemplating getting a smartphone and a Garmin Edge bike computer, but when I saw a post about Endomondo, I axed the plans on the Garmin and decided to pull the trigger on the DX. In case this helps people in their advice-giving, I am a cyclist racing in college right now, I have an almost unhealthy interest in everything gadgets/computers/video games (and I suspect I'm not the only forum member like this ), I love sports (hockey, lacrosse, football, basketball, baseball, cycling, wakeboarding, skiing, surfing, etc.), and I love movies and TV (especially Entourage and Californication). So, with all of that in mind, who's got some good apps that I simply must have once I get my shiny new piece of hardware?

1. the ability to edit/make a playlist on-the-fly (without the use of a software)

Anyone found out how you can dim the 4 buttons when your droid is in media dock? I know that they are controlled by the light sensor, and light up when in darkness. Anyway to stop the light sensor? I have tried the brightness, it is set at none, still the little 4 buttons light up as soon as it gets dark. Dim the screen and still can read by the buttons. Why have a dimmer that only dims the screen?

Everytime I go select it, it lets me check smart alarm, and pick the duration I want (5 mins) and then the sound I want (breeze) but it still plays the regular alarm melody everytime- even though I can physically see that smart alarm is checked. Is this a bug?

View 16 Replies View RelatedI am running BB 0.4 and have been for some time.I use the multimedia dock that launches the clock.apk. The proplem I have is when I hit the dim button for when I go to sleep after a while the screen times out. It lasts for quite some time so it makes me think that once the phone hits 100% it defaults to my 1 minute screen time out because the phone stays on for at least an hour (I know this because ill plug it in and watch some tv then go to bed)Back when I was on nexbeast or before froyo I used to hit the dim then eventually it would default to a clock that would kind of bounce around the screen.I dont want to go back to nexbeast but surprisingly enough this is making me angry. I want to be able to use the clock for my room and the alarm clock but I also want to be able to dim the screen so I can sleep.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHere's another one in my quest for customization using the multimedia dock. Unfortunately, I have sub-par VZ service in many parts of my house. I'm considering the Wireless Extender ($249 - ouch), but until I make that call, I've been manually forwarding my cell phone to my home phone line.
Question: would there be a way to set up a script or functionality that would tell the Droid to forward to home when in dock and un-forward when taken out of the dock. Might be kinda cool. I think one of the mobile companies used to sell a dock that did just this in the early 2000s.
I was really taken with the Droid, but for my family, I just couldn't see paying Verizon $50 more a month just to have one, so we are switching to AT&T...

View 3 Replies View RelatedRunning 2.2 from OTA when I take the phone out of a dock (Multimedia or car), the home screen has to rebuild it self. Meaning all the icons are slow to come back. think of it as on a windows machine Explorer dies and you have to do a start/run/explorer to get it back. Only difference i that this is automatic, just slow to get responsive again. Even swipping through the screen is slow at first. Is froyo, google's VISTA?

I also want PUSH email, my understand of PUSH email is that every half n hour or something I can get the software to go out and search for new emails whilst not having to go into the app and click refresh to see new emails, something which I have to do on my N95. I also need a decent SatNAV, now I know that google navigation is out. I don't know how good it is due to the lack of information out on the Internet. Do all HTC phones drain the battery with GPS? Okay so I need SatNAV, then I also need a phone with decent car cradles, I need something that enables me to rotation it portrait and landscape easily.
Do HTC phones come with a car charger in the box? I also use Gmail a lot, now is there any advantages that I will get from getting a HTC phone and utilizing my Gmail account, as well as calendar. Is there a simple way of getting the phone to sync with outlook such as the tasks and notes you make? Are most applications on Android free? Do the phones last a long time? I like the idea of the kickstand in the Droid incredible I think, that phone is very appealing for me.
