Android :: Good Phone App For Galaxy?
Sep 16, 2010
I just bought a new Epic 4G and I can't stand the phone app that came with the phone. I tried installing phone dialer and while a little better it still not that great. I had an Evo before and I actually liked that phone app as well as sense all together but I won't go there.
So any recomendations for a better phone application? I'm willing to pay.

Before the upgrade my phone works really good but after they upgraded the android from 1.6 to 2.1 ,my phones ruined or it is not working good.I cant download any application rom the market because i dont have enough phone memory and everytime i restart my phone all the contacts will gone and my the setting that i want it will turn it back to a normal settings..So everytime restarted it i will set the settings again..I ask help and consult it again to the man who upgrade my phone. He said he cant fix it because she dont know about that kind of problem. There is a lot of people dont have any problem after they upgrade but in my case why i have this kind of problem.

As per this post, An idea for great battery life
Could someone with good battery life on a Galaxy S post their batterstats.bin file?
I'd like to try this fix and not sure if the batterystats file would work from the other thread since its a different phone.

From the Greek guy that recently compared Super Amoled vs Amoled vs Lcd....
He says that the 5mpx camera is excellent in day but in dark places without the flash it is not very good....the 720p is nice but he is not impressed.

I opted not to pay the monthly charge for insurance, so I want to get a case. I think a rubberized/silicon molded case would be best. I don't see any after a quick search of Amazon. I'm also gonna put a Zagg Invisishield on it.

I am due for an upgrade but I am not sure if I should get the HTC Desire or wait for the Samsung Galaxy S? So basically here are the pro's and con's: Galaxy pro's: 4 inch Super AMOLED screen is superior to the Desires Camera is superior, can record HD video More attractive (IMO), even though its close 1500mah battery (longer battery life than Desire's 1400mah) No flash player (how good is the Desires flash player anyway?)

Looking for a good email app for my Samsung Epic (Galaxy S). It is essential that I not have to have a Gmail account to download it as I have problems once I setup Gmail. I need POP3 and IMAP, and I have multiple accounts. The only thing I see by searching is K-9. I would appreciate any user experiences with the app, and I am open to other alternatives.

A few weeks back, when I was considering to switch to Galaxo or not, we had a thread here mentioning an odd issue,
Every 3rd picture taken with the camera app would be bad (or just a dud).
At the time, I couldn't reproduce the issue and it didn't bother me. But, just today afternoon (and a bit early in the week), I encountered something similar - every other picture had a 50% chance of being bad (just blank). It got to the point that the camera was just un-usable. I spent a good bit of time investigating this and I think I have an explanation. But first, let me walk you through what I did.
By default, I keep my camera to take 5 Megapixel shots at "super fine" setting. With that, I couldn't take any good shots AT ALL. I reduced it to 1M and "normal" setting. Things were a bit better, in that now only every other shot was bad. But, at least I was able to use the camera.
I use 3 desktop screens filled with widgets. I disabled most of my widgets and reduced the number of screens to 2. (I'm running Drakaz's darksense theme for Galaxo 1.6.3 ). With this, the camera was MUCH better. In fact, I could take 5 shots continuously without any problems (testing at home).
In some ways, it looks like I was stretching the limits of my i7500 a bit too much and so, the camera just didn't work right, but I can live with fewer screens and fewer widgets.
I miss the Handcent SMS widget, but from what I observed, its too resource-intensive for my needs. The only widgets I use now are from "Jorte" , the organizer app (really good too!) and "SMS Im Away".
So, for those of you who need the camera in working order, consider disabling a few screens and widgets.

Anyone know of a really good phone book type app for the Hero? I hate the organization of the Hero's contacts, etc. The moment for peats sake has at least the tabular tabs at the top for organization. I like that.. I saw Phonebook in the market, but the reviews dont speak volumes.

I have wanted a smart phone for a while now. I originally leaned towards an iPhone, but I don't like the fact that you have to have a Mac to develop for it. This lead me to download the Android SDK and begin messing around.
I do want to get an Android phone soon, so I can really test my code on the actual device (and just to have a smart phone =P).
I'm looking for a balance between value and power/functionality/features. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. What are your experiences? What do you use? Would you suggest what you use? If not, what would you suggest?

So, after three long years with my Samsung Alias, which I bought before it was popular enough to get the fancy Alias brand name, I am upgrading to the Droid X. This is my first Android phone and so I am wondering about what the "essential" Android apps are. What finally sold me on switching to Android was the Endomondo sports tracking app. I was contemplating getting a smartphone and a Garmin Edge bike computer, but when I saw a post about Endomondo, I axed the plans on the Garmin and decided to pull the trigger on the DX. In case this helps people in their advice-giving, I am a cyclist racing in college right now, I have an almost unhealthy interest in everything gadgets/computers/video games (and I suspect I'm not the only forum member like this ), I love sports (hockey, lacrosse, football, basketball, baseball, cycling, wakeboarding, skiing, surfing, etc.), and I love movies and TV (especially Entourage and Californication). So, with all of that in mind, who's got some good apps that I simply must have once I get my shiny new piece of hardware?

My girlfriend is looking for a new phone - and she likes the android platform (I have a Nexus One).
However, she is not impressed with the sound quality (both in terms of what you hear and what the other person can hear). Plus, the speaker phone on the Nexus One is nigh on useless.
I don't have any experience of the Desire HD, or others - can anyone recommend any that they know has good sound?

I am looking at which HTC phone to buy. I need WiFi to connect to the Internet at home. I also want PUSH email, my understand of PUSH email is that every half n hour or something I can get the software to go out and search for new emails whilst not having to go into the app and click refresh to see new emails, something which I have to do on my N95. I also need a decent SatNAV, now I know that google navigation is out. I don't know how good it is due to the lack of information out on the Internet. Do all HTC phones drain the battery with GPS? Okay so I need SatNAV, then I also need a phone with decent car cradles, I need something that enables me to rotation it portrait and landscape easily.
Do HTC phones come with a car charger in the box? I also use Gmail a lot, now is there any advantages that I will get from getting a HTC phone and utilizing my Gmail account, as well as calendar. Is there a simple way of getting the phone to sync with outlook such as the tasks and notes you make? Are most applications on Android free? Do the phones last a long time? I like the idea of the kickstand in the Droid incredible I think, that phone is very appealing for me. I am just thinking of getting the phone not for phone and text use but for just Internet and applications.

We have a web application and we've built phone applications (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry) to be companions to the site. The usual workflow is that an existing user of the site gets a phone app and then plugs their existing credentials into the phone app and they are off and running, but more often now we are seeing folks who are downloading the app and then (and this should not surprise anyone) don't read the help screen that explains they need to go and get credentials at the web site and therefore cannot connect to the application which does require registration to manage their content. This is a giant usability fail condition.
So we know that we need to put user registration workflows on the phone app. Other than the obvious solution of duplicating our registration page on the mobile, does anyone know of a better identity solution for the phone? For example, on the desktop we also use Facebook Connect as an identity server and the users love it. I'm looking for something that simple that we can implement across the major smartphone platforms.
Clarifying note: I should add here that this registration mechanism is likely to; and it would be desirable if it did, go hand in hand with a general identity/authorization mechanism such as the Facebook mechanism mentioned below. One other place I'm poking around is to see whether there's an openId solution that does not require a browser to pop up.

Every 6 - 12 months,I wipe my Windows laptop and start again, because uninstalling programs always leaves traces behind and eventually lots of stuff is left behind. My question is,would it be a good idea to do the same with my Android handset?I've noticed that sometimes an app will remember its previous settings if its uninstalled and reinstalled later.Does this mean loose files and settings are being missed? Does anyone else already do this?

I have a Droid with Verizon service.
Firmware: 2.1 update1
Baseband: C_01_3E.03P
Kernel: 2.6.29-omap1-g7fa8788 android-build@apa26#1
Build: ESE81
I got caught in the rain and my phone quit working. I got a replacement under the insurance program. In the meantime, after the original phone dried out, it started working. However, it seems sluggish. And some applications force close that didn't in the past. Unfortunately I updated a lot of aplicationss so it could also be that the new build of the applications is causing the FC. I'm not an electronics expert so my question is this: Can a phone partially recover from water damage? Or since it started working does that mean that it's good as new? I need to decide whether to keep the replacement or return it and get a refund.

I have been using 4smartphone.net and am not pleased with their technical support with Sprint and/or the EVO and their Exchange service. Is anyone pleased with their Exchange Host service and using an Android 2.1 system like the EVO? I have a contact database with 1500 names and some of the notes fields in the contacts are 2000 to 4000 characters long. I want an Exchange Host Service that understands connection to the Sprint EVO and has a technical support phone number that answers questions with solutions and does not just blame the problem on Sprints new phones. Unfortunately I only have one phone and would like a monthly or quarterly contact.
