View 1 RepliesI'm wondering if there is any way to get notified when applications are installed. I'd like to install my app as a service which just waits to be notified on app installation.

I use AppMonster now to backup certain apps like this, but is there a way to let's say, add shortcuts to uninstalled apps to the homescreen, and when you click them it installs them, and uninstalls them again once the app closes?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen testing my app on a device I go through several "installs", although it's really the Eclipse plugin doing this for me.After a while (not very long) the device starts complaining about insufficient storage. It seems that progressive "re-installs" eats away the phone storage even though the app being installed (presumably) is either removed by Eclipse first or at least overwritten.Interestingly if I use a task killer to kill everything on the phone (which I only use for dev purposes btw),the available storage indicator recovers and I can keep working. As I said, it's more annoying than anything as the workaround.well works, but I'm wondering if there is some sort of cache chewing up storage?More importantly, I'm a little concerned that the same may happen with updates from the Market? That is, the update effectively replacing the current version of the app but leaving an allocation of storage behind in its wake.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHave anyone notice yesterday anything strange in the downloads/active install data from your apps? My app lost more than 100 downloads(which should be impossible) from which most of them were active installs, so now my apps is 15 places down and my percentage of active installs badly affected. Has anyone else been affected?

When I upload the theme to the android market and then its downloaded from the market and installed it installs as a .zip file instead of an .apk file. I have several other themes that are working fine. I have tried rebuilding it from scratch and the issue is still there. I have attached the android manifest.xml for reference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought an android 2.3.6 phone which no one has tried to root( it seems). So I was wondering if I could root it by creating an update.zip file containing the su binary and the superuser apk and then installing it in the recovery mode. Will this work? I have failed with gingerbreak, unlockroot and z4root.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm getting a little concerned about the issue. I know for a fact that my application is doing very well from analytic. But the active installs are dropping daily by a lot! While my total downloads are growing steadily as they always have! I'm worried cause I know that active installs affect an applications popularity and mine is going to be dumped all the way to the bottom if this continues. So what's causing this issue? Two theories: 1. I recently allowed to install to SD card. 2. Android Market is broken? Anyone seeing this issues? -Moto
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor at least 5 days now the number of downloads and active installs have remained the same, surprisingly since it was changing day by day. I still see through my server that new people are registering, so definitely the counters are broken or the numbers dont get refreshed. Has anyone had a similar problem?

I basically just want wireless tether, and flash 10.1 for real. Im sorry if this is a noob questions, ive searched around and cannot find where I read that. I could be nuts tho too. 2. Is WinRar needed for downloading and unzipping files, and if so, what is it?
3. Where is everyone downloading roms from?
4. What is the best/ most stable/ widely used rom?
I'm currently rooted, and ready to install some roms. I downloaded one, but it had a corrupt file and couldn't be used (youtube link from Droid Review).
The ratio of current/total installs for my first app is 0.66 so 33% of users that downloaded my app uninstalled it. Is this good or bad for a productivity app? I have nothing to compare it to.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot get HTC Sync installed on my WinXP laptop. Based on all the posts I've read I'm not the only one with this problem. None of the posts seemed to have a fix and based on the comments of users who'd contacted HTC, they don't have a fix either. I don't want to beat a dead issue but how am I supposed to sync my phone and computer? Anyone know of another program that I could use in place of HTC Sync?

Im working on a small app like spare parts for my firmware and i want to know how i can make it install to my system and be hidden(as in not show up in the app drawer) because i have made shortcuts in the android settings for the toolkit like app.
Is it something i have to do in the android manifest or is it a xml piece i have to edit?
The Android Market Developer Console shows two numbers for your submitted application; "total" and "active installs".What exactly does the "active installs" number mean?Is it affected by application upgrades? Does that yield a "total" of 1000 because the APK was downloaded 1000 times but an "Active Installs" of 500 (50%) because, in the end, only 500 people are running the app? Does an upgrade get counted as an uninstall followed by an install?

Code is below.

Doing this results in a "application has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". If I initialize the string to some set of characters instead of null, it'll just stay that way. Should it not do what is inside the onCreate() and make that change?
Lately it seems that installing or updating an app is about a 50/50 chance of failure. This is both before and after I rooted. Then I installed LithiumMod and see the same thing. It doesn't appear to be any particular apps, and I've noticed it most recently with pandora update, wow armory, angry birds lite, and others. It makes the phone very useless in the instance where I need a new app and can't get it to work.
Going to Settings > Applications > Market > Clear Data seems to work... again, 50/50. Doesn't fix it every time.
Any ideas? I've googled around and most solutions are the "clear data" method, or just "try it again".
Looking for a Custom ROM with the ability to control what applications can be installed on an Android device or preferably to ask for an administrator password prior to installing, much like in Administered desktop systems. This is to be used on a large number of company-owned tablets.
The company i work for (a large travel & tour agency) is investigating the possibility of providing Tour Bus drivers with Android tablets, which will be used for filling out and submitting (via mobile data) a number of different types of forms.. Since the tablets will be connected to the internet via 3G / 4G, any downloaded apps will cause data charges by the ISP. This is a major issue as the Tour Bus fleet consists of over 300 vehicles and drivers
we were trying to find an app which would control what a user installs on an android device, but from what we have researched, this level of control is not available for Apps, for security reasons (such as malware)..Custom firmware seems to be the only option, if such a firmware exists.
How can we watch past nfl or college football games. Prefer nfl on our evo. Is there a website or app that does that. Where we can watch games from like last week. The whole game though not just snippets. Thanks for the help been looking through forums for about a week now trying to figure it out for myself and then just decided to ask.

Now, there it sits in the history, with ONE letter bad, but you can only do the same, incorrect search again by tapping it.Am I missing something, or is it true that I have to enter the whole thing over again if I miss one letter. Same applies to variations on searches, such as "red truckload of elephants" and "blue truckload of elephants" No way to go back and just change red to blue.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLet's share info on how we who have poor eyesight can better use our Android phones, what do you say?
1. A program called Spare Parts would allow you to increase font size for many apps. Does not work for the HTC Hero (OS 1.5). Unknown if it woks for any other OS or phone that is currently in existence.
2. A program called Bettercut allows you to create a Display shortcut and use that to enlarge text on some apps. Does not work on the HTC Hero (1.5). Developer says it may be because of the special Home screen the Hero has. Unknown if it works for any other OS or phone.
3. Browser allows you to zoom in out of the box (unless you searched google!)
4. Do OS versions 1.6 and 2.0 allow one to enlarge text out of the box?
