Nov 22, 2010
I am trying to access a service in other package, but not able to get the binder.code...
In the ExampleActivity i am accessing the service by doing
but onServiceConnected( ) is not getting called, so i am not able to get the binder. But process everything is going fine , in the Eclipse console i am able
I tried with serComponent( ) & serClassName( ) as well, but for both the cases onServiceConnected( ) is not getting called. I googled and used the hint for listening boot completed and user present intents and starting the service in the broadcast receiver.
how can i access the service of other package (process).

I'm attempting to override an Android View class to tweak the functionality just slightly. But I need to modify a field that does not have a setter method. I've placed the subclass in a package called android.widget. Why can't I access any of the package-private member fields? I notice that the compiler says they "cannot be resolved," rather than not being accessible. Does this have something to do with how Android.jar is built?

I have two apps, one runs in namespace com.gtosoft.voyager and the other is com.gtosoft.dash. From com.gtosoft.dash I would like to start up the service which is defined in com.gtosoft.voyager...
I think I need an intent, but what arg(s) would I pass to the intent before kicking it off with startService()?
If they were in the same package I could just use

I'm trying to find a way to access private files created by other packages.According to the dev site (plz see the following), I can read/write files of other packages if some flags are set on the create of those files, but I don't know how. Can I just open those files with Context.openFileInput(or Context.openFileOutput)? Do I need a different way for those three cases? By three cases, I mean getSharedPreferences(String, int), openFileOutput(String, int), openOrCreateDatabase(String, int, SQLiteDatabase.CursorFactory).

I have a service class my.app.MyService that I'm attempting to launch from my.app.MyActivity as follows:
Intent svc = new Intent( this, MyService.class );
The manifest contains the entries:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_BACKGROUND_SERVICE" />
<service android:name =".MyService" />
LogCat gives the message:
"Unable to start service Intent { comp={"my.app/ my.app.MyService" } } : not found"
Could someone kindly let me know what I am missing?

OS: Ice Cream Sandwich
Device: Motorola Xoom
I am having issues with a simple service not running correctly. The logcat shows some force stopping on the installed apk. Also the broadcast receiver should listen to android.intent.action.ACTION_POWER_CONNECTED but it is not.
This all worked on froyo 2.2 on a samsung galaxy tab.
Here is the snippet from logcat when I do an 'adb install testService.apk:
Code:
D/AndroidRuntime(15251):
D/AndroidRuntime(15251): >>>>>> AndroidRuntime START com.android.internal.os.RuntimeInit <<<<<<
D/AndroidRuntime(15251): CheckJNI is OFF
D/AndroidRuntime(15251): Calling main entry com.android.commands.pm.Pm
I/ActivityManager( 153): Start proc com.android.defcontainer for service
[code]....

i'm a bit stuck with remote services in android. thing is i implemented a remote service in package "a.b.c" and i want other applications to be able to access this service. i got rid of the whole crappy aidl-stuff and designed the "interface" of the service to work via broadcasted intents. works fine so far...
problem is: how do i get a different application (different package, different project, maybe even a different developer, ...) to start/stop the service?
CODE:..........
This will crash my app immediately on startup. what did i do wrong? how will i get this to work?
once it's running, commands and data will be passed via broadcasts. so that should be no real problem...

PackageStats(String pkgName)(cacheSize, codeSize, dataSize) returns always "0" Size of phys. file (java.io.File) in "/data/app" seems wrong/not completely. Has anybody any solution to get the total disc space used by an installed package?

I am coding a basic android application that has to call a web service, using KSOAP2, I am sending a request with one parameter (city) and need to get the response of the web service (basically a short String) from this site:
http://www.deeptraining.com/webservices/weather.asmx?op=GetWeather
When execultin the application, I only get a message: "This application has stopped unexpectedly". When debugging, I am getting the following error:
Thread [<3> main] (Suspended (exception VerifyError) And: ViewRoot.handleMessage(Message) line: 1198 that says: Source not Found And shows a button allowing to: Edit Source Lookup path. What does this basically mean?
My source code that generates the is the following:
private static final String SoapAction = "http://www.deeptraining.com/ webservices/GetWeather"; private static final String MethodName = "GetWeather"; private static final String Namespace = "http://www.deeptraining.com/ webservices/"; private static final String URL = "http://www.deeptraining.com/ webservices/weather.asmx";
And the main part of it: SoapObject request = new SoapObject(Namespace, MethodName); request.addProperty("City", cityname); SoapSerializationEnvelope envelope = new SoapSerializationEnvelope (SoapEnvelope.VER11); envelope.setOutputSoapObject(request); HttpTransport androidHttpTransport = new HttpTransport(URL); try { Result.setText("... Processing ..."); //error here: androidHttpTransport.call(SoapAction, envelope); ...
I am using Eclipse with Android plugin and KSOAP2 library.
