Android :: 3rd Party Keyboard Have Always Cursor Keys

Jun 22, 2010

One nice thing with the Evo is the always there cursor keys. I like some of the alternative keyboards but they all require toggling the ABC/123 key to get to cursor keys and then you have to go back to the keyboard to continue typing. It's quite annoying, and no matter how convenient they are (better key spacing, swype and what not), I just keep going back to stock for that convenience.

With the Evo being the first 4.3" screen, there is plenty of real estate to throw cursor keys in there with the keyboard as shown. I'd gladly pay for swype, better keyboard or keyboard pro (think that's the main ones), if they were able to do this.

HTC Hero :: Arrow Keys On Keyboard To Move Cursor Around In A Text Entry Box

Sep 6, 2009

I can't see any arrow keys on the keyboard to move the cursor around in a text entry box. So, when I want to correct a typing mistake I have to stab my finger somewhere to the right of the error then backspace over the error (usually deleting a few correct characters in the process) before retyping. There must be a better way.

Android :: Move Cursor In On-screen Keyboard With External Keyboard

Nov 1, 2010

I am new in Android and i am working to make an on-screen keyboard which can be visitable via arrow(direction) keys of my external keyboard. I mean i wanna move left, right, up and down in the on-screen keyboard's UI (keys) with pressing arrow keys from my external(hardware) keyboard. The key that cursor is on should be focused, when i press an arrow key from my external keyboard the focused key should change and when i press "enter" from my external keyboard it should be operated.(written to the screen etc.) How can i make this? Is there any idea? How can i make virtual keyboard's keys visitable? It doesn't look like moving around a matrix of buttons.

HTC EVO 4G :: How Do I Uninstall 3rd Party Keyboard?

Sep 14, 2010

I know how to uninstall keyboards that show up in the apps list like Better Keyboard or Swype or SlideIT.you uninstall just like a regular app.The PROBLEM I have is this:I don't know WHERE I downloaded the keyboard (was a developer forum or a site like Good and EVO or Android Central or something) but someone had available the "Android Keyboard"it is NOT the stock EVO keyboard but the keyboard that you might recognize from Android NON-EVO devices.Anyway, downloaded and installed the apk file a while ago and don't want/need the keyboard installed any more.So I go to look for the app name "Android Keyboard" or something similar in my app list and can't find it.Swype is there, SlideIT is there all ready for uninstalling but can't find the Android keyboard app.

Android :: Add Two Possible Keys In One Keyboard Button

Dec 19, 2009

I've been trying to create my own android keyboard following this guide and looking at the latinIME souce code.

While reading the kbd_qwerty.xml file I noticed the different tags used and explained here. I was expecting to see certain tag to reproduce what BetterKeyboard application does. They draw more than one key on each button. Example.

Are they adding images or this is somehow possible from the xml?

Android :: Intended Usage Of The Next And Done Keys On Soft Keyboard

Sep 23, 2009

The "Next" key seems to move to the next item that could interact with the keyboard.

The "Done" key is less clear to me. It sends in a KeyEvent.KEYCODE_ENTER event. Is it possible to distinguish this event from the down-and- left-arrow key that also sends in a KeyEvent.KEYCODE_ENTER? It appears that you get either but not both "Done" or down-and-left-arrow buttons on the soft keyboard.

Am I missing some documentation about this?

Is it "good UI" to have the "Done" key execute the action that would normally be done on an "OK" button? E.g. for a username and password dialog that has two text fields and an OK button the user touches the username field, gets the soft keyboard, types, presses "Next", types, presses "Done" and the dialog submits the username and password and goes away.

Or is it "good UI" to force the user to explicitly touch the OK button? Possibly having to also manually dismiss the soft keyboard if it covers up the OK button.

Android :: Add Another Virtual Keyboard Do Simulate Control Keys?

Jan 13, 2010

I am working with an hardware that have just five buttons. But I have just one button available to the following functions: home, back, search, soft-back(menu). The hardware is for automotive use, so that is because he doesn't have the common buttons of a cell phone. So I am thinking about create a second virtual keyboard that is called by this available button, to show these buttons that are missing on hardware. I want to know if it is possible to do. If it is, what type of code should I follow to create this extra virtual keyboard? I think a good start is to look at the code of the current virtual keyboard.

HTC EVO 4G :: Can Cursor Buttons Be Turned Off On EVO Keyboard

Apr 21, 2010

I noticed the 4 big cursor keys on the side (landscape) and bottom (portrait) of the HTC Sense keyboard on the EVO. After playing with the HD2 that has the same layout, I prefer not having them there. It makes me have to reach farther with my right thumb to get to the spacebar and gives an unbalanced feel. I end up hitting the period by accident.

-Can the cursor keys be removed?

-If I install a 3rd party keyboard like Smart Keyboard or Better Keyboard (I've purchased both) on the EVO, will that get rid of the cursor keys?

HTC Incredible :: Way To Remove Certain Keys From Keyboard?

May 2, 2010

I have a couple quick questions about the Sense keyboard on my Incredible.
1. I'm coming from an iPod Touch keyboard and have been continuously hitting the period that is next to the space bar. Does anyone know if there is any way to remove certain keys from the keyboard? I really don't need a period and comma right next to the space bar on the alpha side. I know it's nit picky, but I like having a bigger space bar. 2. I've noticed when logging into websites that require a Username and Password that I am having to remove the keyboard when I go from the Username field to the Password field. On my iPod there was a "Next" feature that would automatically advance the cursor. Am I missing something on the Incredible? Didn't see anything available for switching data fields.

HTC Incredible :: No Input From Some Keys On Keyboard

May 1, 2010

I am at a little over a day with my first smartphone, the Incredible.I'm mostly impressed, but this keyboard issue is really bugging me. Basically, here's what happens: I go to compose a message, I turn the device to landscape mode, and when I press the W key, it does not input regardless of where I push relative to the key. On rare occasions, it will work, but I can't think of anything that I might have done to fix the problem.I tried to sleep/resume, power off/on, remove/replace battery, and calibrate the text input, but there seems to not be any resolution.Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone figure it out? I'd hate to exchange the phone for this one thing, but you don't realize how often you need the W until it won't function!

I go to create a new SMS or enter something into the browser.

Stock HTC Keyboard.

I try again. Choose a different 3rd party keyboard. Stock HTC Keyboard.

Am I Just missing some essential stage in the process here, or is something messed up?

Motorola Droid X :: Keyboard With Fatter Keys

Jul 23, 2010

Is it just me or are the keys a little too much on the skinny side? I am coming from an iPhone 3G and I found it much easier to type on that. I predominately type in portrait mode and I find myself having trouble with this keyboard, especially when it comes to the spacebar. This is a huge surprise actually. I was expecting it to be significantly easier because of the screen size, but it just isn't.

Maybe I just need to get more used to it. However, if this problem continues I think I'll have to return the phone because messaging and email are two of the biggest things for me. Can I download any other keyboard that have fatter keys? I tried Swiftkey which didn't really help. Does anyone have better keyboard on their Droid X?

I discovered that my KB has Vendor=099a Product=0500.

Now I'm gonna build a custom Keyboard layout, should i create a keyCharacterMap as well?

well, after some more digging, i think i won't need to make a KCM. Still i can't find a way to let my Keyb to use my keyboardlayout. According to catalog it still uses the generic.kl even if in the right directory a file with the keyboard name exists...

General :: Keyboard Keys Modifications (Removing - Replacing)

Apr 23, 2012

So recently, I found a flashable zip for a stock LG keyboard. I do have a problem though, when I use the keyboard, I have an annoying and useless T9 button and I want to move/resize some buttons.

Would it be possible to modify the apk from the zip to achieve what I am trying to go at? I prefer this keyboard than any other keyboard because this is the closest to the LG P690 stock keyboard in terms of speed I could find to the original, and this is what I'm accustomed to.

What I'm trying to achieve is:

1.) I want to remove the T9 button, settings button and comma on the first layout.

2.) Move the comma into the symbol layout and move the keys according to the sample layout.

3.) I also need to let the spacebar fill the space the removed buttons used to take up.

Motorola Droid :: Software Keyboard - Move Cursor Around Text

Nov 12, 2010

I use the hardware keyboard exclusively, but am wanting to use the software keyboard more, figuring that my next phone may only have that. My real problem is figuring out how to move the cursor around in the text. If I want to go back and edit using the hardware keyboard, I just use the d-pad to move back to the spot I need. How do I do that with the software keyboard? Am I forced to tap the screen (which never chooses where I want it, and I have to key pecking at it to get it in the right place)?
