2.1 Update :: Can't Find User Guide On The SD Card
Nov 26, 2010
I didn't bother backing up my applications, as I had quite a few installed that I didn't need to keep. I made a simple list on paper, and reinstalled everything afterwards. One irritation is the the User Guide application now says that it can't find the User Guide on the SD card, and offers the online version. Does anyone know if the 2.1 version of the onboard User Guide can be downloaded, what it should be named, and what folder it should be in? Or could someone even e-mail it to me, with instructions as to where it should be put?

You can now download the user guide for 2.1 to your PC from here, this is the UK English version http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/restoretheuserguideinyourphone/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en It downloads as x10_manual_(then your language eg UK).zip it needs to be renamed emanual.zip You need to replace the old version on your SD Card inthe folder called Others with this one Check your own SE Support website if you dont want the UK version

I have installed ultimatejuice, and i am slowly getting the hang of it. however, its not exactly self explanitery in use at times.I am sure i read somewhere (no idea where though, i just remember seeing it and deciding i wanted that app!), that someone had set it up so that when the phone was plugged into the usb charger (i.e. computer or car charger), then bluetooth would be turned on. but when it was unplugged or plugged into the wall, bluetooth was turned off.i am 99% sure that juicedefender was the app he used for it, but i cant work out how to do it.so, im wondering if its because i cant work out how to use the app, or if i have the wrong app?and even if i do have the wrong app, has someone come up with some sort of simplified user guide for it?

I could have sworn I saw something about a link to the Droid Incredible User Guide. The only link I could find by Googling it is invalid. Was there an issue with the guide and was it taken down? It's raining here this weekend and I though I would take this opportunity to acquaint myself with the guide before I get my phone next week.

I've seen the DROID users guide online and of course the one that comes with the device. But there are a Lot of things missing and honestly I don't want to have to always "figure it out". Is there some comprehensive guide available that details everything? For example, I'm using a widget that came with the phone, I think its the Power Control widget. There is one control on there (looks like a Refresh icon). I have no clue what it does. Lastly, does anyone know if Moto, Google, Verizon has a feedback forum. I like the phone and it has some really cool features, but I have some feedback (positive of course) to help them improve it.

I'm having trouble trying to find a way to guide a user from one point on a map to another. I can add the locations I want to the overlay. I want the user to be able to pick a location and be guided through the streets to that location. Does anyone know how to do this, or is it even available in the API?

They sure didn't ship one with the phone. Is there a Droid (or Android 2.0) User's Guide on the web that gives detailed operation on all the Droid functions (including tips & tricks)? It sure would be handy!

Unfortunately I seem to have had a senior moment and lost the built in user guide for my handset(Xperia X10 mini pro) in the process of replacing my memory card and formatting the one received with the handset (yes I was actually that stupid). Can anyone possibly help me in locating a copy that I can transfer to my phone please?I know I can view the instructions online from my laptop or the handset itself but I would like to get them back on the handset just in case, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I posted a reply with this info but i decided it would be better suited if i posted a new thread about what i got. anyway here's a quick summary.... user manual has well what do u expect. but the launch kit has info from a variety of stuff including prices(2, 1, and no year prices), Specs, Product Codes(SKU, UPC, and so on), Accessories, Target Audience, Guick Start Guide, And SO MUCH MORE!!!! Mostly used for employee training and the like. Anyway its a must see whether your the curious type or you just want to know every little bit about the Droid. Let me know what you guys think.

Have problems with receiving/installing the much awaited 2.1 update for their T-Mobile Hero (G2 Touch). It took me a while after figuring everything out by myself since both T-Mobile and HTC support have been absolutely inept at providing a solution.
You may have tried moving the phone's date forward a couple of weeks as suggested by T-Mobile and you'll probably get the pop-up notification window, but when you try and install the update the screen goes black with a warning triangle and it freezes.
1- First of all BACK UP all your data! This is because updating the phone will erase all data on your phone and reset it to it's factory state. I use My Back Up Pro, it's very easy to use and you'll be able to restore everything, from your pictures, music files, apps, etc to your messages, contacts and so on. It will even restore all your shortcuts and replace them exactly where you've placed them on your home screen(s). If you have a lot of files I suggest you back them up online as your SD card may not have enough space.
2- Download and install the latest ROM from the HTC website, you can do so here: http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=2&dl_id=775.
This is where some of the confusion arises. You may think that you have the latest ROM on your phone (you can check by going to Settings-About phone-Software-Build number. It should be 2.73.110.26. However if you've downloaded it from the T-Mobile support website it is NOT the same as the one on the HTC website DESPITE having the same number, and it's this that's preventing your phone from receiving the notification for the new 2.1 update and installing it. Confusing eh? So, download the ROM update and install it on your phone following the simple instructions.
3- Once your phone has installed the ROM it will restart. Finally, the notification pop-up will appear! Tap 'Install'. The phone will start installing the update without any glitches. You may also get a second pop-up notifying of a second update. Proceed as before. I suggest you do all this over Wi-Fi as it's a huge file.
4- Again, once the installation is complete your phone will restart and you'll be able to enjoy the new features. It's like having a new phone, better interface, better graphics, better performance!
5- Finally re-download My Back Up Pro from the Market and restore all your stuff. Again, this is best done using Wi-Fi. Notice: When restoring data, if your Contacts and Calendar are synched with your GMail account, UNCHECK these from the list that shows up.

I've published an app today mainly for my forum users to use, just a very simple app that displays wallpapers derived from the forum. Problem I'm having is one guy says it doesn't appear in the market and I've even sent him the APK to install manually but it fails. My minimum SDK version is 4, I created it with the 1.6 SDK specified so not sure why he can't see it or install it. He has a 1.6 Magic handset. So just wondering if anyone has any ideas, the app is called bocn wallpaper, it uses internet and set-wallpaper permissions but I wouldn't have thought the permissions were the problem.
My manifest is as follows:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0" package="net.dbws.bocnwallpaper">
<application android:icon="@drawable/launcher_icon" android:label="@string/app_name">
<activity android:name=".Main" android:label="@string/app_name">
<intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter> </activity>
<meta-data android:value="xxxxx" android:name="ADMOB_PUBLISHER_ID" />
</application>
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="4" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"></uses-permission>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_WALLPAPER" />
</manifest>

After I updated to 2.1 i cant see the phonebook any longer in my car (BMW 1 serie with IDRIVE and bluetooth). With 1.6 I could chose a contact and then dial directly, or import the phone number (however it was not as great as the old symbian OS where you even could navigate directly to a contact). Is it someone that has any idea of a good app or something that makes this possible (maybe a Symbian simulator :-)).
I have also realized that the connection (dB) has decreased with the new OS. I even loos connection on the E4, with this phone (Xperia X10 mini Pro).

I'm looking for a way to allow a user to press a button to browse the contents of the SD card, and then select a folder, whose path will be returned to the application. Similar to how you pull up the "Browse..." dialog on Windows for installations.

I've recently updated my Xperia x10 mini to 2.1 - and I experienced the same problem with my contacts as others here (but it is almost fixed, after reading other threads - thanks!)
Though I have another problem - ALL my notes on my phone have disappeared after this update! And I had many....And eager as I was to get the new upgrade, I didn't write down all these notes on a reliable piece of paper with a reliable pen to secure that I wouldn't miss them afterwards IF they were to disappear!
I followed all the steps at the sonyericsson webpage, and noticed that it said on the webpage that all things NOT included in the backup, which I was supposed to do before upgrading, would NOT be "disturbed" by the upgrade.. But here I am now, sitting with my phone WITHOUT any of those important notes!

I have my phone coming tomorrow. I have done some research and I have downloaded the latest HTC sync and drivers for my windows 7. I have downloaded a few utilities as well. Anything in particular that I need to do to with the phone or any applications that have to be installed first? Also what file format does it use on the microSD card? Is it a linux format?
