Considering all the problems that I have read I dont even know if I want a hero anymore . I am supposed to go to the Sprint store today but now idk honestly. I was excited to update to 2.1 but now it just sounds like crap.

Can anybody tell me the best forum/sites for very basic stuff. E.g. what to do when I seem to have disappeared my "Internet" icon from the home screen. Been through the on-line user manuals etc. and there's nothing out there very useful.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to decide about either keeping my current HTC Hero (Firmware Version 1.5) or switching to the iPHONE. On the iPHONE, I am trying to figure out if I want the new iTOUCH or the new iPHONE. The problem is, the decision is dependent on my HTC Hero.I like the Hero, but it just feels like something is "Lacking" or "Missing." But I can't explain it.I have read on these forums here and there about how people have rooted there phone and how amazing it works and is compared to the official firmware out there.I don't know much about rooting when it comes to Android. The closest thing I can think of that might be similar in nature is when I had a jailbroken iPOD TOUCH.So now I am trying to figure out, to make my current HTC Hero "Better" or check it out the way it was meant to be, do I root it, or do I officially upgrade to 2.1?If you happen to recommend rooting, I am hoping there is a simple way of doing it. If I am not mistaken, I believe there are multiple version to root to, so which one do I use and how do I go about rooting to it?
View 17 Replies View RelatedOk so i have a mac, and i am running parallels. I have connected my phone to the virtual machine, and am currently trying to install the 2.1 upgrade. It has been about 30 minutes and it still says 0% at erasing user data. Bu the dots are still moving as if it is working, just nothing has happened otherwise... I have not touched the phone or cord or anything of the like....is this normal? The phone itself just shows the HTC logo with a black background like it does on startup. Im worried. I have all my texts/pictures/apps/contacts backed up already, but should i just let it sit like this overnight or what....

I have downloaded a few utilities as well. Anything in particular that I need to do to with the phone or any applications that have to be installed first? Also what file format does it use on the microSD card? Is it a linux format?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI went through all the troubleshooting steps in the "Update Available From Sprint" thread, making sure I was on v1.29.651.1, yada yada. Worked on this for a week and a half. Spoke with Sprint, spoke with HTC, no luck. Going to firmware update always reported NO UPDATE AVAILABLE.
Took the phone back to Best Buy and demanded an exchange. After receiving the new phone, went to try to firmware update, it showed that one was available. I asked for my old battery back since it was charged fully so that I could do the update. Put my old battery back in, went to update, NO UPDATE AVAILABLE!
Turns out it was my battery? Put the new one back in and the update was successful. I had scoured the net before but did not notice anyone with this particular issue. I

View 20 Replies View RelatedI had been using Fresh Rom 2.0d by flipz since last night, and got everything setup, last night I had trouble updating the Profile and PRL so this morning I tried it again and succeeded the PRL update, unfortunately right after the PRL update the Sprint Network never came back. I can ROAM when I switch off Sprint Only but no Sprint Network.What can I do to resolve the issue? Tried resetting the phone to no help, pulled the battery and reset, also attempted to update PRL and Profile again but without Service it won't do either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter losing root due to F'ed up rom flash, I can still boot into recovery mode (clockworkmod) which is annoying as its like I'm half rooted. So I came across the "one click" hero/evo root method, unrevoked, and that told me I was rooted though I am not. I am kinda ocd and am extremely annoyed by this whole half rooted none of the benefits and all of the shortcomings deal (loss of warranty, back to slow stock 2.1, ect). Thought about taking it to a Sprint store and have them reflash the 2.1 Ruu but was told over the phone that it is impossible to do this. Lastly, I decided it was time to update the software to the dreaded, root-breaker .6 version. So I download the update and go to install it, installation fails and leaves me staring at my clockwork recovery screen, not what I expected. I'm assuming it failed because of my phones unique situation.

My brother has the Hero too and I remember last week I believe he told me this update showed up on his notifications bar at the top, and I had no idea what he was talking about. Assuming that was the .6 OTA, why didn't anything show up on mine? Also, if in case I did get it, how do I know?

I will be periodically checking numerous websites for fixes on this problem. I would like anyone who has any information on this fix to let it be known becuase I have found alot of people in my same shoes. Hopefully This can be really helpful to some people.
