Jul 21, 2010I had my DroidX Cell Phone since when it was released last week.
The Cell Phone was working very well with no dead pixels on any of the menu screens, none on any of the software applications, and none on the Camera or Camcorder applications.
I had checked for the dead pixels using different colored backgrounds, and using dark screens especially with the Camera and the Camcoder application.
On Tuesday afternoon I downlaoded and installed the DroidX 1.13.604 Update.
The DroidX now has some dead pixeks in the same location only in the Camera and Camcorder applications, and not in any of the other applications or menu items.
You need to use the Camera and Camcorder applications in very low light and viewing a dark screen and you will definitely see the white colored dead pixels.
If you using the Camera and Camcorder applications and you are looking at an object in a bright light or in an outdoors setting you will probably not notice the white colored dead pixels.
Since the dead pixels only occur in the Camera and Camcorder applications it is probably a software related bug.

Jul 20, 2010My brother and I both just updated to the new firmware and noticed something.. Go and open up the Camera app (hold the red button) and tap "Switch to Video" and then tap it again so you are back in the picture mode. Look closely at the screen (point it at a white/black wall), do you see a couple light blue/green little dots in random spots? I noticed it on my phone first and then went and asked to borrow his and sure enough, his has them too. They don't seem to actually be in the pictures themselves.. just on the viewfinder screen.

Unfortunately most of the stream links are Flash. So I've searched for the station call letters in android apps and they're not there. The links from mobile stream center won't play either. Nov 25, 2009I've seen the DROID users guide online and of course the one that comes with the device. But there are a Lot of things missing and honestly I don't want to have to always "figure it out". Is there some comprehensive guide available that details everything? For example, I'm using a widget that came with the phone, I think its the Power Control widget. There is one control on there (looks like a Refresh icon). I have no clue what it does. Lastly, does anyone know if Moto, Google, Verizon has a feedback forum. I like the phone and it has some really cool features, but I have some feedback (positive of course) to help them improve it.

Nov 26, 2010I didn't bother backing up my applications, as I had quite a few installed that I didn't need to keep. I made a simple list on paper, and reinstalled everything afterwards. One irritation is the the User Guide application now says that it can't find the User Guide on the SD card, and offers the online version. Does anyone know if the 2.1 version of the onboard User Guide can be downloaded, what it should be named, and what folder it should be in? Or could someone even e-mail it to me, with instructions as to where it should be put?

Aug 22, 2010Have problems with receiving/installing the much awaited 2.1 update for their T-Mobile Hero (G2 Touch). It took me a while after figuring everything out by myself since both T-Mobile and HTC support have been absolutely inept at providing a solution.
You may have tried moving the phone's date forward a couple of weeks as suggested by T-Mobile and you'll probably get the pop-up notification window, but when you try and install the update the screen goes black with a warning triangle and it freezes.
1- First of all BACK UP all your data! This is because updating the phone will erase all data on your phone and reset it to it's factory state. I use My Back Up Pro, it's very easy to use and you'll be able to restore everything, from your pictures, music files, apps, etc to your messages, contacts and so on. It will even restore all your shortcuts and replace them exactly where you've placed them on your home screen(s). If you have a lot of files I suggest you back them up online as your SD card may not have enough space.
2- Download and install the latest ROM from the HTC website, you can do so here: http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=2&dl_id=775.
This is where some of the confusion arises. You may think that you have the latest ROM on your phone (you can check by going to Settings-About phone-Software-Build number. It should be 2.73.110.26. However if you've downloaded it from the T-Mobile support website it is NOT the same as the one on the HTC website DESPITE having the same number, and it's this that's preventing your phone from receiving the notification for the new 2.1 update and installing it. Confusing eh? So, download the ROM update and install it on your phone following the simple instructions.
3- Once your phone has installed the ROM it will restart. Finally, the notification pop-up will appear! Tap 'Install'. The phone will start installing the update without any glitches. You may also get a second pop-up notifying of a second update. Proceed as before. I suggest you do all this over Wi-Fi as it's a huge file.
4- Again, once the installation is complete your phone will restart and you'll be able to enjoy the new features. It's like having a new phone, better interface, better graphics, better performance!
5- Finally re-download My Back Up Pro from the Market and restore all your stuff. Again, this is best done using Wi-Fi. Notice: When restoring data, if your Contacts and Calendar are synched with your GMail account, UNCHECK these from the list that shows up.
Motorola Droid : Complete Guide To Backup / All Of My Apps - System Data
Jul 2, 2010I run the risk of getting flamed for this... but I deem it a worthy thread, as things are constantly changing. I haven't found an up-to-date thread that has satisfied me yet.
I recently joined the Android community with my purchase of the Moto Droid. After a few days, I became interested in the rooting process and gave it a go... upgrading to Froyo. There have been several ROMs I've tried out, but I'm very hesitant to try more due to backups.
Will somebody provide me (in words or a link) the best way to backup all of my applications and data when testing out a new ROM? I tried Titanium Backup (and even donated), yet I never have successfully restored from a backup. Some applications and system data restore, but a ton of apps don't install, and I have to re-enter my email accounts (and appropriate sync settings) every time. This and the number of apps it doesn't restore (especially Swype) makes it not worth messing around with.
I read something about Nandroid backup, but that just looked like it was a backup in case something went terribly wrong with a ROM or something of the sort. Also, it looked like in the Simply Stunning (ChevyNo1) 4.2, there was a built in backup script... but I'd like to be able to venture between ROMs.
I want to be able to backup all of my apps and system data (gmail accounts, sms, etc), install a new ROM, and reload all of my apps and data.

Nov 9, 2009I got my new Moto Droid on the day of release, which so far I absolutely love. However, I just looked at it and noticed that there was a single dead pixel in the top left corner. I wouldn't have even noticed it had it not been on the gray background of the top status bar the rest of my wall paper is black so it would've been easy to miss.Has anyone else experience dead pixel(s) on their new phone? I'm going to try to get it swapped out this afternoon which I think they should do. It just makes me mad that I have too.

So far, I have:
-Lowered the brightness all the way
-Taken the Sync off
-Turned off GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth
-Let battery drain all the way down and then charge it.
Still, however, my battery is draining very quickly with moderate use. In fact, when it is in standby and locked (screen off, no activity), it still drains at an incredible rate.
Is my battery fried?

Mar 1, 2010There are a few ways to change the color of the clock, notification bar, and pull down menu.
Standard disclaimer: I take no responsibility for anything you do or screw up on your phone.
AdamZ has updated method A (now called Droid Customizer) and it now changes all notification colors. It will overwrite any other changes you have previously made to the services.jar and framework-res.apk files so the manual method is still useful for people who have already made changes and don't want to lose them.

If you are familiar with the installation process of the smoked glass themes then this is an option. Has 13 color options as well as 12 font options that you can use.
B - Manually (sorta) change everything. I did it this way because AdamZ's method in A wasn't out yet and I think the way described in method A might overwrite other changes you have made (not sure on that though)
This will probably look long with a lot of steps but it really isn't too complicated.
Prerequisits
Rooted
Android sdk installed and some familiarity with adb

1 - Plug in your phone and don't mount the sd card.
2 - On your computer open a command prompt and navigate to the android sdk tools folder.

Motorola Droid :: Wall Charger Dead
Sep 30, 2010I noticed my phone has stopped being charged by the wall charger. Not to sure why this is. I tried several different outlets in my house and it wouldn't charge. I then used the same cable and plugged it up to my computer and it charges with no problem. My car charger cable works too. Any ideas why the wall charger would want to stop working all the sudden? Its not the cable because like I said I have it charging via my computer.

Sep 22, 2010For 2 days my battery has been draining quickly. This morning it is dead in less than 4 hours. I sent four texts. Checking battery usage, this is what I found: com.android.launcher - 46%, Beautiful Widget (just uninstalled) - 37%. I have never noticed these processes taking up so much battery. Background: I have been receiving a low storage notice so I deleted some apps, texts and pictures and plugged in for the night. The next morning the severe battery drain began. I was concerned about shorter battery life after the latest update so I have recently changed my settings to lower frequency for refreshing email, etc.
