I am new to the vibrant, been a long time blackberry user. I have to have the latest and gratest, but can not root my phone!! I have downloaded and renamed the zip file, but cant get into recovery mode, did the volume up and down and power, Nothing seems to work for me.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI followed the instructions on the how-to root sticky, but when I power down the device and then hold vol down+up simultaneously and power it back up to get to recovery mode (to root), it boots normally. I've done this 7 times now, with two fingers holding down the volume buttons (one each) and then pressing the power button until the device shows signs of life.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI have a Vibrant. The issue all started when I tried to install the 1.2ghz OC rom onto my phone. I had rommanager installed, and attempted to run it off the SD card, but when my phone booted up it had lost my applications, everything.
The problem I'm running into now is that the phone seems to be unable to use its mass storage. Every time I attempt to reinstall an application from the market it says it doesn't have enough memory. Under settings it says "unavailable" for the internal mass storage.
I tried using the volume buttons and power button to enter recovery/dl mode but every time I do I cannot make selections. If I use the power button to try to select it does nothing. In fact the "up" volume button makes it go down, and the other "down" button also doesn't do anything.
Since I have no applications I can't use clockwork recovery, even though I know I have one. Also, Odin is unable to connect to the phone, so I can't reload factory. Kies also doesn't recognize the phone.
It also won't even recognize the SIM card, says it has no reception when it clearly does.
I was able to access recovery mode on my bricked phone in a way that all of you may think is stupid.I have a Bell Canada Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. My phone somehow bricked it self a few days ago. I wasnt able to get into recovery mode at all, no matter what I tried, how many times, and I tried every single method with no success.People on XDA Forums were mentioning about heat somehow allowing you to access the recovery mode. Some said putting it facedown in the sun for a few minutes, some said plugging it in for 15-20 min, some said playing games on the phone to heat it will would also allow them to access the un-accessible recovery mode on their phone.I tried all of them. I put my phone in the oven for 5 minutes, twice, last night, did not work. Ok I thoght to myself. Maybe I need more heat. To get it hot to the touch.So I tried once again today, and what a shock, I was able to get in recovery mode via the 3 button - WITH BATTERY OUT, HOLD VOL UP + HOME BUTTON + POWER BUTTON, then insert battery, and let go of the power button once your phone turns on.Took 3 seconds to set everything to restore, in the recovery mode.It worked for me. If you are going to try this, maybe try with a hair blow dryer first.dont have one of those, so I couldnt, to be safer.I will not be held accountable for any damage you do if you leave it in too long or damage your phone in any way.This worked for me. Im happy I got it working.The only thing which worries me now What if heat or cold can cause your phone to brick itself? phone bricked itself out of nowhere, no idea how.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was having some pretty serious problems with Bionix 1.7 (couldn't download from market, unusably bad GPS, etc), which I thought I had successfully flashed yesterday afternoon. I decided to use Clockwork Mod to restore a backup I made before I flashed Bionix. This hung up for quite a while (upwards of 20 minutes) so I figured something had gone wrong. I held the power button until the screen turned off, and that put me right into Android Recovery, where I get the options to reboot (puts me right back there), reinstall packages (puts me into Clockwork Mod, which I'll get to in a second) or delete user data / cache, which I haven't messed with.
If I go into Clockwork Mod, I can tell it to try to restore one of my previous backups again, but it hangs up indefinitely (upwards of several hours) at "Restoring data..." (with either immvbsd.lck or .pc_syncstream below that). I can also still see the Bionix .zip on my SD card, but when I tell Clockwork Mod to install that .zip it gets this far:

every time i do volume down and power it just regular reboots. if i hold volume up and power it gives me power reset or upload mode. How do u get to download mode.

After i see the "vibrant" logo pop up i let go. that doesnt work. I try holding down Up and Down, while holding the power button for 5 minutes, doest work .

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking at sending my phone back in to TMO, but I don't want there to be a trace of anything. I rooted via the update.zip and flashed Clockwork, but haven't flashed any other roms or anything.
I was curious, is there a way to flash back to the stock recovery? Or would uninstalling Rom Manager, then unrooting via terminal, have the same effect?
As the title says, how? I am going to unroot my phone.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf you go into settings/date and time the first option is a check box that says Automatic (use network-provided values). If you uncheck that it does not stick through a reboot. Upon restarting your phone this box will be checked once again. Now for the interesting part. If I put the phone into flight mode, uncheck the automatic box and then change the time and/or date. The instant I re-check automatic the time is reset correctly. How is this possible? I thought that flight mode actually turned the radio off. If it does indeed turn the radio off then how is the phone able to instantly set the time to the correct value?

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust bought a Vibrant off of CL. I got it unlocked and it seems to be running well off of AT&T. I had a few questions though.
1) Whenever it is in the sleep/standby mode it will randomly flash on. I won't get any new emails or txt messages but it does stay on for a while until the screen timeout period ends
2) It does display a "Refreshing SIM data" message at the bottomish area every few minutes. Is this normal or is this an AT&T thing...
3) I was able to reset everything from going to the Settings>privacy>factory data reset but the instructions for a hard reset of "turning on the phone while holding down the volume down button" did not work. Has anyone been able to pull this off?
All in all I'm pretty jazzed about the phone. I like the Swype typing a lot as well as the overall speed and app installs. I'm coming from a work iPhone and an old school bar phone that could only call and txt. My wife has a iPhone4 and even though the facetime feature is nice I still don't like the restrictiveness of Apple products.
How come the vibrant does not support landscape mode on the home screens? Sprint variation of the Galaxy S is able to do this. Froyo ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never flashed a phone before. I followed instructions for ODIN. I installed the ADB drivers as indicated. (I had them installed on my windows 7 laptop previously for use with PDA net.) I shut down my phone then enter recovery mode. I then plug my phone into the computer and it never shows up as connected. I have tried this on my new IBM Thinkpad R500 (windows 7 32 bit) and on an older IBM laptop running Windows XP. I have used these same computers and phone connection before when I added MP3's to the phone.
When I let the phone boot up normally, both computers then recognize it and I can transfer files and such. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the ADB drivers multiple times, when the phone boots up normally I can use PDANet just fine so I doubt it is the connection. Is there something special I need to change in the phone settings before I shut it down and enter recovery mode? It seems like the phone isn't loading something as it boots into recovery mode. That it loads when I let it boot normally.
Starting a new thread since the other one I found is pretty old.I can't seem to reach recovery mode on my Samsung Captivate. I press both volume buttons then press power button and keep holding onto the volume buttons but the phone just boots normally.Anyone had a similar problem? Am I doing something wrong?

I need to do a factory reset on my phone because I had that lock screen block where it asks for your GMail, but nothing was working. I tried the "null" password trick, and that got me through. Then I (have had this problem for ages) decided to do something about that download error problem, where nothing downloaded, and the suggestions where 1. Factory reset or 2. delete some data and cache from apps. Did that. Now it won't accept my GMail login because it erased my GMail from the phone, hence the need for a factory reset. Now that you've heard my life story (sorry ), I'll get onto what I need.

I just recently came upon my new samsung moment, so i wanted to go ahead and root it after having my rooted hero with froyo, and i loved it.
Anywhos, i got to the point where I update it using the files i got off of the tutorial, and now im at the point where i need to boot into recovery in order to flash the phone with my new rom. However, here lies the issue. My phone is turned off, and i hold down volume down, and both the call and end buttons simultaneously. It starts to load up, but then it just basically loads into my phone like it normally should. I hold the buttons down all the way through this time, and same deal.. so what am i doing wrong here?
Seems I can't boot to recovery mode on my BH2. I've been all over the place looking for the exact method for booting to recovery, and I've seen all sorts of variations. The most common methods are to hold BOTH the Home and Power/End keys at the same time and continue holding them until you reach recovery, or to hold ONLY the Home key and continue to hold it after you have pressed the Power/End key to power up the device. I've also seen a couple people suggest that you should hold the Camera key while powering up. Suffice it to say, NONE of the methods I've tried have worked. When holding the Home key during power up, my phone hangs at the Android boot screen for about 2 minutes, but then continues to boot normally. Every other attempt to boot to recovery have resulted in a normal boot.

All I was doing was updating a word document using the application FREETHINK which comes with the phone. I pulled the battery out and restarted, and went to do the same thing I was trying to do before the crash and it crashed again.I looked this message up online using "google". There isn't much. People seem to think it has to do with GPS, and it seems like it's a reoccurring problem, which factory reset will not fix. I'm switched back to my Blackberry, incase that it does reoccur. And I will call T-Mobile I guess or maybe try restarting again, and see if it crashes again doing something different other than FREETHINK.Not panicking yet.Anyone else experiencing this problem?I hope it doesn't reoccur,I'll let you know.
