So I got the ADW.Launcher and I'm finding it to be FANTASTIC, much better than Sense and Launcher Pro IMO. I FINALLY got skype and it's amazing too. The big thing those it that I finally threw some widgets onto my desktop - namely You Tube, Google Search, and the Power Control thing. The power control is really nifty and makes it so easy to control blue tooth, wifi, gps. Are these going to kill my battery life? I don't' use live wallpapers and I make sure I don't have a ton of apps running in the background.

What is the best way to set up SetCPU for optimal performance and battery preservation. A balance between the two, I suppose. What profiles do I need to enable and how should I modify them?

I am using the Y5 app and my phone connects to my router when I am home. I just checked the battery usage and Wifi was showing 22%. My up time is right around 27 hours. Does 22% sound a little high or is that good?

What is the best way to determine what is using my battery? I know I can go to Settings | About phone | Battery | Battery Use and see usage to a certain extent. But what if I want something more granular? Usually, the largest percentage of usage is by the Android System, is there a way to see which components may be using the most?

Battery was at 24%. Talked for 10 Minutes. Now 18%. Really? 6 %. By that rate you can get 166.6 minutes of talk time. Does this sound right? No apps were running in the backround.

Which is pretty cool because it puts a small icon in the top left corner of % remaining. But it does not tell me statistics - like what is using it the most, etc. I would really like an app that tells me the estimated time remaining on the battery.

New DINC owner here, I am somewhat questing if my battery is anygood on my new phone. I unplugged my phone with a 100% charge and the green light on. I made one 4 minute phone call and viewed 4 emails and in that 10 minutes my battery went from 100% to 90%.
Stats are:
Unplugged for 10m 22s
android system 92%
voice calls 4%
cell standby 2%
WiFi 2%
Just viewing the battery use screen brought my phone down to 88%. Is this draining to fast? I also noticed last night at work I walked in with a 100% charge, I played around online a good amount and looked at some apps. Within an hour my battery life was down to about 60%. I realize these phones use a lot of battery but this one seems to be losing it's charge in a real hurry, my Blackberry was no where near this bad.

I checked my battery usage and 33% is being used while Phone Idle and 36 while cell standby. Anyone know if this is normal or is my draining too much battery? BTW my Fiancee DL a Ping Pong app and played it once. I checked my battery to see what was using it, the ping pong app had drained 90%.

So I was out on my motorcycle and had about 60% battery left on my Vibrant.Figuring I wasn't going to need the phone for a few hours I powered the phone off, calling myself saving battery. When I turned the phone back on I was totally surprised that the battery was down to 38% immediately following powering up.This happens every time I power the phone down-I lose about 20% consistently. It also happens when google maps shits itself and either freezes the phone (necessitating a battery pull reset) or causes a spontaneous reboot. Is this normal? I've had my phone for a bit over two weeks (so out of my remorse period) and my besides this my battery works and lasts rather well, considering how much this phone has going on.

If you leave GPS switched on, and don't use any GPS apps, would it consume the same battery as with it off. Becasue it only activates itself when a GPS using program is on which means it wouldn't kill the battery?
Anyone tested this out?

I cannot leave it running in the background as it kills my battery. is there another app that is a good IM program that is more gentle on the battery and allows the phone to sleep? I cannot understand why developers don't allow the phone to go into a sleep state, using IM to wake it up and reactivate the IM application, much like PDAApps Verichat used to do.

So I am on my 2nd kernel now other than stock. I tried netarchy .18 and currently using kings 9 bfs. I am running stock rooted froyo. The stock kernel gave me the best battery, both netarchy and kings kernels have given better performance. Is there a best of both worlds, i.e. a kernel that gives better performance over stock AND better battery life? With the netarchy kernel I used 25 percent of my battery in 2 hours from a full charge. So far with kings I have used 10 percent in 30 minutes from full charge! This compared to stock which was 90 percent over 20 hours. Any ideas or suggestions?

I always see people on this forum talking about having their phones rooted with the processor overclocked to 1+ ghz. The droid battery already has trouble lasting a day, how does overclocking not kill the battery extremely quickly?
Or does it and people decide it's worth it?

So what are tge top killers of the battery? I know the obvious one is the screen. What else drains a huge amount of energy? Do things like multiple news feed widgets drain a lot of energy? I heard leaving GPS on absolutely wrecks your battery life as well.

Was doing fine until rain was coming, then battery dropped big time. Charged last night before bedtime, didn't use my phone all day and checked a little bit ago and was down to 50%. Normally I'd be at 80-90% under similar circumstances.
Here's the confusing part (Battery use):
42m 36s since unplugged.
Display: 67%
Cell standby: 26%
Phone idle: 8%
EDIT: BTW, this is LIVE weather.

It's been 22 hours and I still have 2 bars. This is after my first charge cycle AND I have been using a little internet, some youtube, texting, 2-3 pictures, and lots of phone customization/tweaking. I don't even have TaskKiller or an Extended battery yet. NOTE Half of the 22 hours I have been in my basement (right on lake michigan) where Verizon has to FIGHT HARD for a signal - the bars are at 0 but I can still make calls without being dropped. ATT + T Mobile don't work in my basement at all but Verizon is able to squeeze a signal somehow. Doesn't seem to be killing my battery.

I have the startup auditor and Task Panel apps. I want to try and setup the phone to always have as much memory available as possible. Most of them are pretty obvious but there are a few I'm not sure of. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of services/processes/etc. that we can safely kill off and/or set for auto-kill/disable at startup? Edit: One I was curious about is Google Partner Setup. I have killed it off without any issues through Task Panel. But would having it on the auto-kill list be OK?

I have been disturbed by how much battery it seems to use while it's sleeping. After much poking around and reading and using various system/battery/monitor apps in a non-methodical manner, I think I found it. I noticed that a process called 'compass' at /system/bin/akmd was persistent in utilization on my phone. While it only ever showed like 1-6% cpu utilization, it seemed to be showing it constantly. I uninstalled a 'compass' app I had DL'd from the market, but that had no effect.
With some searching, I found some threads over at XDA that discussed this process misbehaving in some recent builds, although the conversations didn't seem to be about the EVO. Nonetheless, I decided to disable the auto screen orientation (Menu -> Settings -> Sound & Display -> Display Settings/Orientation = unchecked) and lo and behold, I'm not sure the phone even uses battery in standby now! (exageration for effect...)
Now, this will require more testing, but it seems to be at the root of *my* battery issues. And I'm thinking after reading at XDA that this could be a broad problem. I'm also hopeful though, that this could be a relatively easy software fix for HTC/Google. Especially because I don't particularly find disabling the screen rotating an acceptable long term solution... but one I can live with for now, if it makes the HUGE battery gains it seems like it might.
