My phone has been working fine I just went on to find an app and its telling me ATTENTION! A network error has occurred retry or cancel and return to the previous screen. I restarted the phone, I made a phone call and it isnt working....

I've been getting this for the last few weeks both on wifi & 3g, always when I have good connectivity on both voice and data.
I can see a few posts about it on the net going back to last year (none with any solutions) but I just wondered if it's affecting people on-mass (if so then it's obviously a network issue as it says).
I can usually hit Retry a few times and it eventually works but it can take several attempts.
I am on a debranded Orange handset running Android 2.2. Had the phone for around 4 months without issue. I went to London last weekend and started noticing problems with the mobile internet. I was largely relying on it to get me around but the mobile internet is playing up. Even if I have H or 3G signal, my phone has suddenly stopped getting internet access or i get network errors. Nothing has changed on my handset and I usually get good signal wherever I go. I'm currently in work where I always get 3G symbol. I have the 3G symbol now with both arrows animated yet my web browser won't load anything and the market place just says I have no network access. Could this be something to do with the Orange/T-Mobile merge? Or has my phone died on me?

View 3 Replies View RelatedEver since I've had my HTC Hero, the internet connection has been really flaky. That is, about half the time it works ok, but with a slow start, and the other half it doesn't work at all, and comes up with either a "cannot find page" in the browser, or "a network error has occurred" in Market or other apps.
I bought into the Hero thing because I wanted a mobile internet device and my iPhone wasn't cutting it with the lack of Flash. But at least my iPhone always worked!
The problem I'm having is this:
No matter whether I'm on wifi or not, browsing for a webpage in any of the available browsers (standard, steel, dolphin), has a delay of about 5 seconds, and then either starts loading the page, or comes up with some kind of "page not found" error. This happens with all websites, including the home page of google, which isn't exactly big or unreliable, except on my Hero.
Also, any app that uses an internet connection, such as Market, more often than not comes up with "a network error has occurred". Clicking "retry" rarely works.
Now if it was just through wifi, I would think it might be the setup of the routers that I've tried it on, allthough I've tried it on 3 completely different types of router, all with same symptoms.
I've also done much testing with wifi switched off, and still the same issues.
I could understand it if it just didn't work ever under either wifi or other, but sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.
I have done my wifi tests while sitting right next to the routers, with maximum signal reception being indicated.
Ok, so it tells me that "a network error has occurred". Is there some way of finding out exactly what the error was? Was it a timeout, or a DNS error, or what?
I get a "network error while trying to sign into <my gmail account>" when trying to use the market, even thoug I am successfully synching contacts and using the calendar which is linked to my gmail account.

HTTPRequestHelper and samples of usage are described in chapter 6 of "Unlocking Android" published by Manning.
My problem is that invoking both the helper and the handler from a thread started on the main UI thread (either from an AsyncTask or directly) works only sporadically.

I've noticed very poor performance in the emulator (1.6 and 2.1) when trying to complete the forth statement below. It will take 5+ minutes running in the emulator. Interestingly, when I debug on my phone it's not nearly as bad at maybe a minute or so, but still not great. Running the app on my phone without debugging yields great performance (seconds). Is there any documentation that explains how this process works? Which access point is being used? When that access point becomes invalid, will it automatically switch to another accespoint? etc. I would like to use only WiFi access points and otherwise fail even tho 3G or GPRS could be available, is that possible?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a combination of alarm (set with AlarmManager) and background service to periodically synchronize data in my application. The only problem I have is that when sleep policy terminates Wi-Fi connection the synchronization no longer works. Is there a way to "wake up" the Wi-Fi connection that has been put to sleep? GMail somehow manages to do that because it notifies me about new e-mail even if the phone entered sleep mode.

Neither wifi/usb tethering are working, when I connect my phone to pc it tells me "no access to network".
I'm having same problem with different roms,so i think that i should change my settings,and it's not a bug of the rom. My default APN at "APN Type" was "default,supl". i Have changed to "default,supl,dun" but nothing,tethering doesn't work.
I have a tablet Samsung GT P6210 Galaxy Tab (Tab Plus 7'') with honeycomb Android OS 3.2. It's root, but does not have access to Ad-hoc network.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HTC Desire HD on Orange UK. In the market I have only ever seen apps & books. I have never seen movies or music listed. I have, until now, assumed that these were probably only available in certain countries because of licensing agreements.
I was discussing the rebranding to Google Play with a colleague, only to find out that they have, and have done for a while, a section in their Market /Play Store for movies. They have an HTC Desire S on T Mobile UK.
Why would I not have movies available via my market? I'm guessing that it wouldn't be handset compatibility, so would it be that Orange are blocking this for some reason? Who else, in the UK, has the movies option, and who doesn't? What is the common ground between each group?
They do not have music as a Market section, so I guess that I was right about this, and it is not available to the UK at all?
We see the bigger font for Agree and disagree buttons for the Alert dialog when the network provider is selected in the location settings menu. Any pointers or suggestions which part of the framework code need to take a look. This dialog is controlled by Networklocation.apk which is not open source.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I got my Captivate this weekend, and have been using it on my WiFi at the apartment and everything is working fine. But today I went to work, and now any webpage I try to access just shows up as a blank white page with the words "Access Forbidden". Other apps work just fine, I just can't visit any webpages. I'm definitely connected to 3G, with a strong signal strength. I read in one thread that clearing APN proxy settings solved this problem for them, but I can't find any way to edit the APN settings on my phone (can only view them). I read another thread that this happens to people who switch over from an IPhone; only problem is, I've never owned an IPhone. I'm contemplating giving AT&T customer support a call, but wanted to check here first to see if anyone else is having this problem/has a fix. Here are my APN settings in case this clears anything up:

These are the default phone settings and it won't let me change any of them, although it will let me create a new APN and edit the settings of that. It seems odd that the default APN is Cingular...that is the service I had years ago, but it merged with AT&T a while back.
