Creating App Similar To Navigator?
Apr 10, 2012
i am creating an app similar to navigator, only that it is not restricted to US only,
now, it works as follows
1) user speaks the destination location, which is converted to text, sent to google maps for processing
2) google maps calculates route between current location and destination location, sends back the route, in text form
3) this text is converted back to speech using text to speech converter, issued to user
till now, i have set up the sdk,adk,eclipse and adt, enabled google maps after getting the key from google using keytool, have the working code for text to speech converter, and i can get my current location(of emulator) using coordinated sent by eclipse.
Thing is, how do i integrate all thees independent modules?

I am wanting to make a reusable 'landing page' activity similar to like the activity when you first launch the official twitter app, facebook, or google io app, etc. Reusable is really the key here I would like for the activity to dynamically populate its gridview with the other activities in the application.
Is it possible to parse through the android manifest file to find my other activities? If so is it also possible to add my own xml attributes to the manifest file to distinguish which activities should show up in the gridview Or, is there some other way to find all existing activity classes in the package? Is there a way in java to look for any Class in a package that implements a particular interface?

I know I know. Why in the world would anyone do that?I'm just wondering if gps works with it better than with Google Maps. Also if it doesn't work with it and people call AT&T and complain, then AT&T might be motivated to tell Samsung they have to fix it NOW since now the problem is causing the phone carrier to lose revenue.I mean otherwise AT&T probably couldn't care less about a FREE navigation service not working.I think the first month is free too. So we should all sign up for the free month and then call at&t and cancel, citing the crappy gps signal as the reason. Then someone at at&t might notice and think, "OK this is costing us money."

So I pulled the trigger and successfully flashed Baked Snack v.9 ROM without any problems (that I've come across yet)! I was also able to restore my device in under 30 minutes! This ROM, so far, is awesome!Anyhow, can anyone link me the apk's for the HTC FM radio (I actually use it, lol) and Google Navigator 1.0.Other than that, I am loving my EVO even more.

So I've been using Maps on the Incredible and liking it so far. However one thing I miss from VZ navigator is the option to search for business' around me.When I'm traveling i like to find restaurants, gas stations, etc. around the area I'm staying. Is there an app that will do what VZ Navigator did in that area?

When you are using the navigator, if you zoom all the way in on the upcoming next location, it gives you an actual real-life satellite image of the street/intersection, etc.

I know you get this time and time again (I know, I've been reading and searching here and xda all weekend) ....... but I really have researched this. I saw a link somewhere, now i can't find it, I didn't flag it cuz I didn't know I would need it at the time. I rooted using unrevoked 3.3 (? The newest one), uninstalled all the programs I didn't wanted, played with rooted stock for a while, liked it, then flashed a custom rom. All that ended up OK. I am trying out myn warm twopointwo . I like it I have no idea how to reinstall sprint navigation!! The new rom doesn't have it (super cook that most Rome remove the bloatware ) The closest I have seen for a apron is to flash Fresh, it puts the sprint apparently in a aspirate folder on the SD card, then coy and install it back into my current rom. I really don't want too have to wipe, just to come back to the same thing.

Searched for a solution to this, but was unsuccessful.I got the OTA on Saturday and noticed that I had a program called "Navigator" and a program called "Navigation".Navigation had a blue arrow icon. Yesterday I had to do a factory reset and now I am unable to find the "Navigation" shortcut.

I have a Droid X with Verizon. If I enable the GPS and use GPS enabled apps, such as Google Maps, etc., am I charged by Verizon for this? Or is the Verizon Navigator the only GPS app that Verizon charges for? (i.e. does Verizon charge for the use of the GPS across the board, or only for the use of their GPS app?)

Has anyone else noticed how far off google navigator is? I have used it a couple times and one time it was almost a mile off from the actual location I wanted to go to. Or am I doing something wrong?

I used the navigation function in the "car home" app this weekend for the first time. The nav. worked great. Voice directions were clear and actually helpful for a change and the gps kept a lock on me. However, I had to make a call to tell my friend I was going to be a little late, only to find out after the call ended that navigation was lost. Luckily, I remembered the address and re-started navigation. So two things, I suppose: 1) Can you easily recall previous destinations? 2) Is there a specific way to make/receive calls while using the app? I noticed if I use use the back button and go through the car app (contacts, voice search) I can get back and forth from nav. to phone pretty well. But it still doesn't seem right.

I have a Droid Eris running OTA 2.1. I just tried using Google Navigator for the first time this morning. When I ran it it led me to install the text to speech app. Unfortunately, I had my SD card mounted (for music in my car) at the time and the install failed. I dropped out, un-mounted the card, manually installed the app, and re-started Google Nav. I have no sound in it at all now. It is not muted, and the nav volume is at max. I have heard it work on my wife's phone. The nav software was my main reason for getting an Android phone. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I going to have to factory reset?

Is there a way to view the navigator without setting a destination. My old Garmin just had a map view and you could see "nav mode" while just driving around. I don't see an option for this with google nav.

Maps vs. Navigator vs. Navigation. didn't find anything that compared the 3 stock options that the 2.1 OTA gave us. So far I have been using Navigation (the blue arrow icon) and i think it works extremely well, it give voice directions while the program runs in the background and your phone is "sleeping" so thats a big plus for me. I didn't see a voice option on Maps, or Navigator but i may be missing something. Navigator looks cool, but doesnt seem to have any bells and whistles that I need. My wife uses Maps and she is happy with what it does. What are your experiences with these 3 options?

I recently purchased a mini dealextreme media center pc tv for android,
OSAndroid 4.0
ChipsetBOXCHIP A10
Processor FrequencyCortex A8 1.2GHZ
RAM1GB DDR III
Internal Memory4GB
does not go bad just that the web browser is closed every few minutes when I open pages with Flash content.Keep a android 4.0.1 I tried with several browsers, dolphin, Firefox ... all the same when I open a page with flash, hangs and then displays the application has stopped working and closes
Uninstall the Flash plugin installed by default leading (v11) factory reset the pileup erasing all.Do not look any hardware problem, it's actually quite powerful and the websites should move smoothly.

I have an android application which allows the user to open up google maps or navigator to show a certain address. This functionality was working in the past, but now I get the following error and the app crashes:
ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2165):
android.content.ActivityNotFoundException:
No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.intent.action.VIEW
dat=google.navigation:q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174 }
The two intents I'm using are-
1) For Map:
String uri = "geo:0,0?q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174";
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(uri));
startActivity(i);
2) For Navigator:
String uri = "google.navigation:q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174";
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(uri));
startActivity(i);

I did some testing with the Navigator yesterday and I have to say it's absolutely awesome. I'm not sure if anyone has posted this, couldn't find any mention of it, but I want to share my battery usage experience with it as well as some other cool things I noticed.
Very cool battery saver:
I used it for a 15-minute drive, keeping it only in the Notification Bar. When you are in the Navigation app, you can press the Home softkey to go back to your home screen. This keeps Navigator working in the background, but it is not drawing the maps and using the screen. You can press the Power button to put your phone to sleep, and the voice actually still talks to you and tells you when to turn. And even better, I started this trip with 76% battery and ended with 76% battery.
Now, the not-so-cool.
I used it for a 30-minute drive, keeping the screen on and letting it show me the map the entire way. I started the drive with 54% battery ended with 34% battery. So definitely keep it on the charger if you are using it for a long drive. But another awesome thing I noticed. I made a phone call toward the end of my destination, just to see what would happen. I used the Home key to back out of the Navigator (but keeping it in the background, as I said above), then made my call as normal. The Navigator still gave me directions while I was on the phone. It came through the earpiece now, so the other person doesn't hear it. How freaking cool is that?
