Android :: What's Difference Between Google Navigator And Google Navigation?

Aug 3, 2010

A client of mine also has an Eris and I was helping her get her navigation system set up and teach her how to use it. I wanted to put the google navigator icon (the blue arrow) on her home screen but could not find it anywhere in her apps. I did find the google navigation (map icon) app and set that up for her. So, my questions are: What is the difference between the two? How come I couldn't find the navigator app on her phone (on mine, it's under "programs")?

Android :: Google Navigator - Voice Not Functional

May 17, 2010

I have a Droid Eris running OTA 2.1. I just tried using Google Navigator for the first time this morning. When I ran it it led me to install the text to speech app. Unfortunately, I had my SD card mounted (for music in my car) at the time and the install failed. I dropped out, un-mounted the card, manually installed the app, and re-started Google Nav. I have no sound in it at all now. It is not muted, and the nav volume is at max. I have heard it work on my wife's phone. The nav software was my main reason for getting an Android phone. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I going to have to factory reset?

Android :: Launching Google Maps And Navigator From Application

Aug 18, 2010

I have an android application which allows the user to open up google maps or navigator to show a certain address. This functionality was working in the past, but now I get the following error and the app crashes:
ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2165):
android.content.ActivityNotFoundException:
No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.intent.action.VIEW
dat=google.navigation:q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174 }

The two intents I'm using are-

1) For Map:
String uri = "geo:0,0?q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174";
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(uri));
startActivity(i);

2) For Navigator:
String uri = "google.navigation:q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174";
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(uri));
startActivity(i);

HTC Droid Eris :: Google Navigator - Battery Usage Tip

May 16, 2010

I did some testing with the Navigator yesterday and I have to say it's absolutely awesome. I'm not sure if anyone has posted this, couldn't find any mention of it, but I want to share my battery usage experience with it as well as some other cool things I noticed.

Very cool battery saver:
I used it for a 15-minute drive, keeping it only in the Notification Bar. When you are in the Navigation app, you can press the Home softkey to go back to your home screen. This keeps Navigator working in the background, but it is not drawing the maps and using the screen. You can press the Power button to put your phone to sleep, and the voice actually still talks to you and tells you when to turn. And even better, I started this trip with 76% battery and ended with 76% battery.

Now, the not-so-cool.
I used it for a 30-minute drive, keeping the screen on and letting it show me the map the entire way. I started the drive with 54% battery ended with 34% battery. So definitely keep it on the charger if you are using it for a long drive. But another awesome thing I noticed. I made a phone call toward the end of my destination, just to see what would happen. I used the Home key to back out of the Navigator (but keeping it in the background, as I said above), then made my call as normal. The Navigator still gave me directions while I was on the phone. It came through the earpiece now, so the other person doesn't hear it. How freaking cool is that?

HTC Hero :: Google Maps Accuracy - Wireless Network And GPS Settings

May 4, 2010

I've got a Hero recently unlocked from the 3 network and I'm using a O2 SIM card in it, I have put in all the right settings to get my MMS and Internet working and everything is cool, however I seem to get really vague accuracy when using Google Maps, sometimes "accurate" to within 2400 metres. I think if somebody asked me to guess where they were in the world I reckon I could get closer than that! Anyway from searching the forum I have read a few comments saying to turn off the Wireless network setting in the Location menu and just leave the GPS one selected, which I have done but then even after waiting a few minutes in an open area it fails to find my location.

I know a couple of times with both wireless network and GPS settings enabled it has been accurate enough to be able to pinpoint my location and display the arrow next to the blue dot to show which way I am facing, which is really helpful if you are in a unfamiliar area and trying to navigate to somewhere. Any ideas why it's so poor at picking up my location and are there any apps to help the GPS get a lock? Would this be something that is fixed in the 2.1 update? Which doesn't ever look likely to come out.

General :: Google Play Services Update Breaks Location Accuracy

Apr 23, 2014

Phone settings: Location : Battery Saving (GPS off, using Wifi/network location only)

On Google Play Services 4.0.x - I get very accurate location small circle around where my house is.

After updating to 4.2.25 - I get a large circle - maybe the radius of an entire block / surface area of a cell tower coverage roughly

Uninstall the update to play services (back to 4.0.x) - get very accurate location again.

I am using a RAZR HD with 4.4.2 kit kat / CM11.

Did play services update broke my specific phone?

I would stay on the older Play Services but Hangouts and Maps keep bitching about needing to update it.

Motorola Milestone :: Milestone Bad Accuracy With Google Navigation?

Jun 19, 2010

I just got a milestone and tried out the google navigation, it pegged me int he right city like 4 seconds which is good, but then proceeded to say its only accurate to 5000m and said I was on the edge of town, when I was in fact in the center as a store, is there a way to improve accuracy? does it get better when you go into big cities? Can I change the tracker or something? Does it help if I leave the maps on quicker? I only left it open for about 15 seconds, someone said that the gps tracker is very slow, is there a way to change it? I am planning on rooting this phone very soon so let me know.

Android :: How To Improve Gps Accuracy?

Aug 14, 2009

With my location listener i get accuracy values about 30-100 m (being on an open field without annoying houses around me disturbing the gps signal). Why is that so bad? I thought you could get an accuracy about 3m with gps. And the Google maps applet for example has a much better accuracy. How can i improve the accuracy? I'm using the default gps provider. I saw you can create a Criteria object to get the best provider, but there are only the gps and the mobile phone net providers anyway - so it's some kind of senseless to get the location provider that way. is there no way to define the needed accuracy?

Android :: GPS Accuracy Reliability

Jul 9, 2010

My app has an issue where many players get bounced all over kingdom come when using GPS to get a signal. I had this issue with my G1 on occasion but not on my Nexus One. I am talking hundreds of miles from their real location. I changed the code to throw out anything that was not at least 500 meters accurate. My question is, if the location placement is hundreds of miles off, how reliable will the accuracy reporting be? Does it realize that it could be hundreds of miles off?

I am asking the community because I cannot reproduce the scenario with what I currently have so I can't test if my fix is meaningful. Does GPS know when its readings are that far off?

Android :: Need To Check GPS Accuracy

Feb 11, 2009

I'm writing a mapping application. In simple terms, it sends some info about the user's current location to a server when the user clicks on a button. I need the location to be absolutely correct, and when I first started to implement LocationListener, I found that it often wasn't. So I've used location.getAccuracy() to check the GPS accuracy, and warn the user - without submitting the data - if the location isn't accurate enough. Code...

Android :: GPS Accuracy Of Emulator

Nov 2, 2010

I am developing a website which used W3C GeoLocation API to obtain users' position. I try to run the website in Android Emulator and use DDMS / geo fix to send the coordinate to the device. However the coordinate received is inaccurate.

For example, (22.377127, 114.095535) will become (22.370335, 114.08523353). I try to run some Android GPS example from Internet, and the results is just the same. I can certainly say that this is not my program bug. From my observation, it seems like some rounding problem.

Android :: Poor GPS Accuracy - Changing After Every Second

Jul 16, 2009

I'm having a weird problem with GPS accuracy. Basically, I check the GPS accuracy in a background thread after the user clicks a report button, and show the accuracy in a progress dialog, changing second by second. (Code is below.) The following strange thing happens:

1. If the user clicks more or less immediately on the button after taking the phone out, accuracy is unsurprisingly pretty poor to start off with, say more than 100m. But the accuracy never really improves very much while the user is running the background thread. There is some improvement, but it's slow and it never gets very accurate. 2. However, if the user gets the phone out and then waits for several seconds *without* clicking on the button and running the background thread, and *then* clicks on the button, the accuracy quickly improves and becomes very good. When they click on the button, the accuracy shows up as fine - within the same length of time............
