LG Ally :: New Update Crashing Google Navigator
Sep 24, 2010
I don't keep up that much with the latest and greatest for my Ally but this morning I saw a system update notice and decided to go ahead and update. It seemed to go smooth enough but as the post title suggests my Google Navigation crashes back to the boot screen whenever I try and use the app.
SW Version VS7402VB
Kernel 2.6.29
Build # ERE27

A client of mine also has an Eris and I was helping her get her navigation system set up and teach her how to use it. I wanted to put the google navigator icon (the blue arrow) on her home screen but could not find it anywhere in her apps. I did find the google navigation (map icon) app and set that up for her. So, my questions are: What is the difference between the two? How come I couldn't find the navigator app on her phone (on mine, it's under "programs")?

Has anyone else noticed how far off google navigator is? I have used it a couple times and one time it was almost a mile off from the actual location I wanted to go to. Or am I doing something wrong?

I have a Droid Eris running OTA 2.1. I just tried using Google Navigator for the first time this morning. When I ran it it led me to install the text to speech app. Unfortunately, I had my SD card mounted (for music in my car) at the time and the install failed. I dropped out, un-mounted the card, manually installed the app, and re-started Google Nav. I have no sound in it at all now. It is not muted, and the nav volume is at max. I have heard it work on my wife's phone. The nav software was my main reason for getting an Android phone. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I going to have to factory reset?

I have an android application which allows the user to open up google maps or navigator to show a certain address. This functionality was working in the past, but now I get the following error and the app crashes:
ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2165):
android.content.ActivityNotFoundException:
No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.intent.action.VIEW
dat=google.navigation:q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174 }
The two intents I'm using are-
1) For Map:
String uri = "geo:0,0?q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174";
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(uri));
startActivity(i);
2) For Navigator:
String uri = "google.navigation:q=MCNAMARA+TERMINAL+ROMULUS+MI+48174";
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(uri));
startActivity(i);

I did some testing with the Navigator yesterday and I have to say it's absolutely awesome. I'm not sure if anyone has posted this, couldn't find any mention of it, but I want to share my battery usage experience with it as well as some other cool things I noticed.
Very cool battery saver:
I used it for a 15-minute drive, keeping it only in the Notification Bar. When you are in the Navigation app, you can press the Home softkey to go back to your home screen. This keeps Navigator working in the background, but it is not drawing the maps and using the screen. You can press the Power button to put your phone to sleep, and the voice actually still talks to you and tells you when to turn. And even better, I started this trip with 76% battery and ended with 76% battery.
Now, the not-so-cool.
I used it for a 30-minute drive, keeping the screen on and letting it show me the map the entire way. I started the drive with 54% battery ended with 34% battery. So definitely keep it on the charger if you are using it for a long drive. But another awesome thing I noticed. I made a phone call toward the end of my destination, just to see what would happen. I used the Home key to back out of the Navigator (but keeping it in the background, as I said above), then made my call as normal. The Navigator still gave me directions while I was on the phone. It came through the earpiece now, so the other person doesn't hear it. How freaking cool is that?

Am I doing something wrong? If I am using Google Maps/Navigator - happily following along as my car wends it's way down the street and I have to exit to say, answer a phone call, look at another app. when I go back into Navigator my destination info is gone. I have to re-enter my destination.

Just got back from a 500 mile road trip. I was using the Droid X car dock and Google Navigator. I noticed that about after 15 minutes the phone would no longer be actively charging (the lightning bolt icon in the battery was not displaying). Within two hours the battery was depleted. I know Navigator is still in beta.

I'm running Eclipse Ganymede on Ubuntu 9.04. I wanted to update to the newest Android SDK 1.6r1 from 1.5r3. The procedure that I followed is:
- Run Eclipse - Update every Eclipse components from the update manager (this updated ADT to version 0.9.3) - Restart Eclipse (Everything works fine) - Untar the Android SDK 1.6r1 - In Eclipse preference->Android, I selected the newly uncompressed folder containing Android SDK 1.6r1 - Click on OK - Eclipse runs some tasks and crashes
After this, whenever I try to run Eclipse again it brings an empty windows on screen and does nothing else. Is there a way to come back to the old SDK without starting Eclipse, with config files for instance? Other suggestions?

My phone is rooted and it has been for a while and i wanted to downgrade my play store to 3.7 but my phone came from the factory with the newest play store pre-installed so i couldn't just go into manage apps and uninstall updates because my phone never had 3.7 on it so i uninstalled the play store using my root uninstaller (like an idiot) and went through a time period of about a week where I couldn't even get the play store installed. last night i finally got it installed to the point where I could actually see the app in my apps list. So after getting the play store re-installed I thought i was finally done with this problem. However when i touch the app icon to open the play store the screen just hangs stays black for a few seconds before telling me that the google play store stopped working. so im stuck with the app closing pretty much right after i open it.

Anyone have a moto droid that crashes daily? I did a *228 update 2 days ago and now my droid has crashed once each day. The kicker is that i havent even been using it as much! I picked up the phone today, open the web browser to google homepage, and the phone crashes. Yesterday it was nearly the same thing. I am not running any apps in the background other than what is already from the OS.

Currents use to work perfectly and suddenly started crashing anytime I press on a sore I follow.
For see reason a couple still work perfectly but majority it starts to load then goes to desktop with the crash report window.
I am using a galaxy nexus with aokp m4 and Franco kernel. I have done a full wipe twice but the issue continues. I have tried clearing data and clearing cache plus reinstalling the entire application.

I was trying to browse the Google Play Store, when ~30 seconds into browsing, the app crashes. Trying again, it continued crashing.Here are my phone specs
Verizon GS3
Android 4.1.2
Samsung Stock/ No root or custom ROM
So I make the online rounds and try what I can find:
"Re-enable the download app" - Nothing was disabled on my phone so, no dice.
"Clear Google Play Store/Services cache and data" - Nothing
"Install newest apk of Play Store" - Problem Persists
"Reset app to factory standards" - Zilch
"Reset app preferences" - Nuh-uh
"Disconnect and rejoin your Google account" - Nuzzink....and the kicker
"FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE" - ....Unfortunately Google Play Store has stopped.
And the REAL twist? I connect an additional, separate Google account to my device and use the Play store under that account? No crash whatsoever. Switch back to my main account. 30 seconds and boom, crash.

Whenever I try to download any kind of app, as soon as it finishes downloading it says "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped". I have tried restarting but don't really know what to do from here because I just switched back to android after a nearly 5 year hiatus and so much has changed.

"-Baseband Version VS740MVB.5210.1015: (new radio.img) Flash this just like a kernel. You must reboot into recovery once more after installing to wipe your cache. *Only flash once! I cannot be held liable for any damage caused to your device by flashing this!" If you back rev to Velocity 0.2 from Velocity 0.3, do you need to redo the Baseband update, or is it permanent?

I recently rooted my phone. That went fine, I got the fancy # prompt without too much trouble. So I installed ROM Manager and got the ClockworkMod Recovery img. When I hit reboot into recovery from ROM Manager it booted to the LG boot screen and wouldn't go anywhere past that. I freaked thinking I was bricked. I left my phone alone for like 4 or so hours and it was fine thankfully. So I pretty much stayed away from fancy stuff like that for the past week.
Then this new firmware update comes out.
My question is... If i install the new OTA update will I lose my root access? I've read about situations where people lose their root then gain it back, I'm just curious if this is the path I will have to follow.
I have a backup of my stock ROM with root access and I'm not running any custom ROMs.

My Ally updated Thursday with no issues. I have observed a noticeable increase in responsiveness. Noticeable! No app issues. I did uninstall some new apps it placed on my phone like Skype. Battery life seems to be as good or better than prior to the update. I'm a light user. A couple of calls per day, some internet (Dolphin HD) and some texting. I recharge it every other day when battery level gets down to about 30%. I use ADW.Launcher, Juice Defender, no app killer, a couple of low overhead widgets, Chomps SMS, Pandora, and not much else other than a few shortcuts. I do have a widget for airplane mode. I turn it on once a day then reboot and turn it back on.
