Sprint HTC :: How To Make A Complete Backup Of My Hero?
May 7, 2010
I am using My Backup Pro to backup my phone. While it does a good job it only does a selective backup. Is there a program that I can use on my stock phone to do a more comprehensive backup? Maybe a mirror backup like Nandroid?

I plan on buying an HTC Hero when they release it next month for Sprint. Is there a way that I can make a complete backup image of the phone in it's original state before I inevitably screw something up on it?

I search for a way, to make a complete backup. Because i will test some other roms. Complete backup mean somthing like the ftf files for Flashtool. a backup from kernel, rom and personal data's in one way with one file or folder that i can restore later. I think, that this not is possible with Smartphone on, so it must be a way with pc and Smartphone in Flash- or Fastboot mode?

I have achieved rooting of my sprint hero cdma phone, but can not get to nandroid backup. i attempted to recovery reboot and it freezes at the htc screen, multiple times. i did luckily backup everything from my sd card and my apps/data before i did anything so i can get back to basics at least with root. i have formatted my sd card, and replaced it with everything that was on there directly after rooting. i can do a speedboot and see the menu to do the backup option, but i get the same results.

If you use this program to back up, then I swap ROMs, will Titanium Restore EVERYTHING back to how it was before I flashed with a new ROM? All texts/emails/apps etc?

I've recently switched from an iPhone 4 to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Any software that does a complete backup of phone to my PC similar to what iTunes does for the iPhone? Note: I would prefer not to root the brand-new phone since I understand that voids the warranty. Also, a backup to SD card is not possible since the phone does not include one.

I've had my Desire for about a month and a half now, but have been having problems with my SD Card, which seem to be getting worse. Intermittently I get a message saying something along the lines of 'the backup can't complete as the SD card cannot be accessed'. I also sometimes experience the problem trying to snap a photo, only to be told that there is no SD card (which of course is really annoying). When this happens I can still see the card using the ES File Explorer, including seeing the contents, but if I try to open a file (e.g. a photo) I can't view it.
I have searched the forums/the Internet and the general recommendation seems to be to reformat the card which helps for some people. Someone also suggested the SDMount widget to remount the card when it happens. I've tried using two different cards (the included 4GB card + a 16GB Sandisk card), reformatted both several times, but I still get the problem. I ran a memory card test tool on the 16GB card and couldn't find a problem. The only way I've found to get access back is to unmount the card and then restart the phone. Does this mean my phone is faulty, or could it be some software causing the problem?

I know there are several threads on these topics already, but being redundantly helpful, I took the time to create a single guide with all the above information in one place. I mean, why not?
The guide covers:
Root via unrEVOked3
Titanium Backup
Wireless Tether
AdFree
Nandroid
Boot Animations
Removing Unwanted apps
Custom ROMs and kernels
Completing restores from Titanium and Nandroid Backups
Returning your phone to stock
The Complete Guide: Root & Everything Else (2.2 and 2.1). Full list of bloatware - including 2.2 - Thanks Hand76.

I run the risk of getting flamed for this... but I deem it a worthy thread, as things are constantly changing. I haven't found an up-to-date thread that has satisfied me yet.
I recently joined the Android community with my purchase of the Moto Droid. After a few days, I became interested in the rooting process and gave it a go... upgrading to Froyo. There have been several ROMs I've tried out, but I'm very hesitant to try more due to backups.
Will somebody provide me (in words or a link) the best way to backup all of my applications and data when testing out a new ROM? I tried Titanium Backup (and even donated), yet I never have successfully restored from a backup. Some applications and system data restore, but a ton of apps don't install, and I have to re-enter my email accounts (and appropriate sync settings) every time. This and the number of apps it doesn't restore (especially Swype) makes it not worth messing around with.
I read something about Nandroid backup, but that just looked like it was a backup in case something went terribly wrong with a ROM or something of the sort. Also, it looked like in the Simply Stunning (ChevyNo1) 4.2, there was a built in backup script... but I'd like to be able to venture between ROMs.
I want to be able to backup all of my apps and system data (gmail accounts, sms, etc), install a new ROM, and reload all of my apps and data.

I just switched ROM's to Fresh 2.3.3 and used Titanium Backup. My question is, is it usually necessary to have to go in and redo all your icons? It looked like the programs were there but the icons looked funny. Also using ADW.

Can I backup some apps from 2.1 then convert to 2.2 with the same app backed up? Would it still work with the same data from 2.1?

I am curious because I backed up my original stock ROM with all of my apps and all that sprint junk, and now I would like to backup the custom ROM with a bunch of the sprint bloat removed. However I would like to have the option to go back to either of them.

Good Morning all --- another question surfaced as I am considering partitioning of my SD card for use with Fresh 2.0d and using the benfits of Apps2SD.
Once up and running, does the Nandroid backup work on this configuration? Or must you keep your files in the Hero to get a functional backup? Now using the 1.6.2 version of RA.
I would certainly not want to sacrifice my ability to make periodic Nandriod backups of my phone.

I am finaly getting somewhat comfortable with flashing and nandroid backup/restores.
I forgot to wipe before restoring a nandroid (DC2.08.1) last night, and subsequently have made some changes. Everything seems to be working OK. I will make a new Nandroid backup.
Is there any benefit to then wiping and restoring that new nandroid backup? Or will the backup just re-install what I have just wiped? Sorry, I don't understand what exactly is being wiped.

One thought, do i have to use the USB to micro USB that comes with the phone or can I just use a standard micro USB to USB that I always use (the one that came with my digital camera)

About two days ago the DamageControl2.0r ROM started giving me the WiFi issues, and where I am with no EVDO or even E network. I rely on the WiFi at work and home, and wherever else I may need it. So I attempted to flash back to Fresh2.0c using the wipe/reboot and all the normal steps. Well it kept booting back to the Damage Control ROM. Someone suggested I use Nanroid backup then tried reflashing the rom. Which ended up working. Well I then decided I wanted to try the New Kitchen, because I love tinkering with this stuff, and it wouldn't flash again. I had to use Nandroid backup to go back to Fresh2.0c and have it working properly. Is there something I could be missing completely?

When I got my HTC Hero a few days back, I instantly noticed I cannot bluetooth my contacts. So I spent over hours trying to figure out a way to do it and eventually forced me to create all my contacts in my PC (which I just import/exported to my gmail account), but that took me about an hour or 2. So I was wondering if there was some way I can backup my contacts FROM the phone, directly onto gmail, or a contacts file. Because I know I will get contacts, and this information will be helpful in the near future. Also, please check out my other thread. My HTC is having major Awake issues.

Just asking because a buddy of mine backed up all his stuff before he did the sprint official. He restored it after the update and had nothing but problems. Problems like the ones most of you on the forum are describing. After a hard reset and not restoring his backups he has no problems.

Well, I was playing with my phone today and I might have made it a faster in a few minutes. This is what I did Home - Menu -settings - Applications - Manage Applications. In this menu it shows how much memory each program is using (?), not really sure, but if you click on the program you can clear out the cache and also clear the data of the program. I cleared out all of the data and cache from the programs that I dont use (sprint TV, NFL crap, footprints, etc...). It seems like its running faster, might help for people that have been using the phone for a long time and have a build up of data just sitting there doing nothing? Let me know if this works for anyone else!

After a hard reset on my first Hero, the factory/system wallpaper files disappeared. Thereafter, I was unable to set the background for the lock screen to anything but the default. When I go to set lock screen background, the device reports "no media found".
Now that I have another Hero, I would like to backup those 22 factory background/wallpaper files.
1) Is that possible? If so, how? Does it require me to root the device so I can actually "copy out" the files?
2) Does there exist a backup software that can do a full system file backup? If so, please recommend one.
3) I have seen several file manager-like applications. Do any of these applications browse system files and allow one to copy them? (Is rooting reqired)?
4) Does anyone have copies of the system/default wallpapers? If so, will you please zip them up and post it here?
5) WHY did the pictures disappear after a hard reset? If they are part of the ROM, why did they not return after a reset?

I know the commands I need to run in adb to flash the recovery image but I do not know where to download the recovery image or where I need to store it I also can't find anything on nandroid back could somone please explain these in detail with the steps I need to take so I don't need to start from square one again.

I've had the phone for about 1.5 months now. I have about 70 or so apps. The phone is noticeably slow and lags a lot. Text messaging app crashes from time to time and I have to force close and loose all the texts. Should I upgrade the SD card? I've been reading about rooting the phone and about ROMs but I dont fully comprehend it.
