Basically I want to root in order to download led hack so I can turn off my trackball light. If I dont uninstall anything and dont flash a custom rom, all I am doing is rooting, will I still need to make a backup in order to be able to recieve updates such as prl's after uninstalling led hack and unrooting?

I hate how my fb is linked to my phone. I dont like how I get all of my friends on fb as contacts. I dont need all that!! I went to people> menu> and then unselected facebook and stuff on there. So in my contact list, my fb friends contacts dont show.. GREAT!
But if I go to home screen and press phone. and if I scroll all the way to the bottom, the fb friends are all still there... How do I delete them? I long press and there is no delete contact option. I deleted all data on my phone of any fb stuff. What else can i do?
ve been having this issue ever since i flashed to the damageless 2.08 ROM. First off, i absolutely love this 2.1 Rom. It has everything i need in a phone now, but this one problem. Occasionally when i try to use the phone portion of my phone to call somebody, it will not work. By that i mean when i dial a buddys number, it will show that i am in a call with him, but i can not hear any ringing or him on the other side. (He can hear me however). This is a totally random issue, meaning that there isnt a specific time or number this happens when i call, so this makes for an irritating issue.Has anyone else experienced this? if so does anyone know of any fixes or anything?

View 7 Replies View RelatedLet me start off by saying I did/still do have a nandroid and also a custom ROM zip on my SD. I used the ROM manager application to wipe data/cache, like I have done about 10 times this past week, and flashed a new ROM. So my phone reboots to recovery, "clockwork mod recovery", you have to use this recovery to use ROM manager, and instead of flashing the ROM, it gives me some error message. Now for anyone who isn't familiar with clockwork recovery, you can't flash a nandroid from it, you have to revert back to the stock recovery to flash a nandroid, or at least I do.
So now all I can do is reboot my hero which brings me back to stock 2.1 with no root access. Now I know what your thinking, "just flash your nandroid", but now I can't. To flash my nandroid I would have to reflash the stock recovery image through ROM manager, and now I'm stuck with the clockwork recovery image because ROM manager requires root to swap recoveries, and no ability to nandroid back to where I was before. Basically, unless there is a way to change my recovery back to stock without being rooted currently.
Is there a app out there will back up all my phone contacts to the sd card?

I know there is an update coming out tomorrow with some Verizon bloatware. I don't really care about the other stuff but the Vcast app store because I want to see if they offer any decent apps that aren't on the Android Market place. Is there a way to get it without changing ROM, unrooting or changing radio?

Last night rooted my phone & installed vallian 5.3. took me awhile to get it right but its working fine. however i installed my back to back up all my apps/data but iam having trouble restoring it back into my phone. I install my back up & when i hit restore, it says cannot get back up info etc...really weird as ive placed all the files back onto my sd card & i see them. this is annoying cause i even backed up export2contacts to restore my phone numbers but i need my apps restored for anything to work. really dont wanna download all of them again.

I forgot to wipe before restoring a nandroid (DC2.08.1) last night, and subsequently have made some changes. Everything seems to be working OK. I will make a new Nandroid backup.
Is there any benefit to then wiping and restoring that new nandroid backup? Or will the backup just re-install what I have just wiped? Sorry, I don't understand what exactly is being wiped.

Now i have read that rooting from 2.1 is easier than rooting from 1.5 cupcake. But when i put the month forward to get the ota update, it first upgrades my firmware, then resets my phone , then i get a picture of a phone with a phone and a triangle with the exclamation mark. I then press home and power and comes up with the android system recovery and says E:Failure at line.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout two days ago the DamageControl2.0r ROM started giving me the WiFi issues, and where I am with no EVDO or even E network. I rely on the WiFi at work and home, and wherever else I may need it. So I attempted to flash back to Fresh2.0c using the wipe/reboot and all the normal steps. Well it kept booting back to the Damage Control ROM. Someone suggested I use Nanroid backup then tried reflashing the rom. Which ended up working. Well I then decided I wanted to try the New Kitchen, because I love tinkering with this stuff, and it wouldn't flash again. I had to use Nandroid backup to go back to Fresh2.0c and have it working properly. Is there something I could be missing completely?

So I spent over hours trying to figure out a way to do it and eventually forced me to create all my contacts in my PC (which I just import/exported to my gmail account), but that took me about an hour or 2. So I was wondering if there was some way I can backup my contacts FROM the phone, directly onto gmail, or a contacts file. Problems like the ones most of you on the forum are describing. After a hard reset and not restoring his backups he has no problems.

And also, some things to think about: remember that the Hero only runs class 2 speeds, even if the card is class 6. Do you think this will change once we receive Android 2.1? Because if not, I would imagine that the phone would be slow opening apps (assuming apps to SD will be available).I know that if they do program the Hero to allow class 6 speeds, and allow apps to SD (without root) then the Hero could run MUCH faster than it does now.
