View 3 RepliesI was digging through the apps stored in /system, and noticed "googleapps.apk". Anyone know what exactly that's for, and can it be removed?
also, can "flickr", "navigator", "talk", "voice dialer", "voice recorder", and "voice search" be removed as well? I'm guessing yes, but just want to confirm.
The post he gives is probably easy to understand for vets, but for a rookie like myself could anyone walk me through it?
Here is his explanation if anyone needs it...
xda-developers - View Single Post - [Rom] Darchdroid v2.7 "KangSlayer" | Complete, OC'd, MMS, Camera, Everything!!
I want to push it to fresh 2.1 or 2.1.2 if possible
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been reloading the phone today after putting the "offical" RUU on post having the pre leak. I rooted 2.1 sucsessfully. I wanted to put Gallery3D.apk on the phone via adb push. I have it in the tools directory and had pushed it before. Now I get a failed to copy / permission denied. Not sure what's up. Last time it pushed to the pre leak no problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI finally opted to try Fresh's new ROM yesterday (really sweet!) but am having a problem with how it is handing gmail emails. With Fresh 1.1 I would typically receive my emails moments after they were sent, and before they would show up on my computer.
But on 2.0d they are showing up 20-30 minutes later. I've looked for settings and can't even seem to find a frequency setting.
I'd love to get this working and if it's possible could see this as my everyday ROM! But I need my emails promptly. Anyone know what's going on?
One other thing, I noticed that I can't set ringtones for people. Not a deal breaker but has anyone else noticed this?
On a side note, the calendar is AMAZING! I'll hate to have to go back to Fresh 1.1 for that reason alone.
Is anyone else's push email from Gmail broken? Mine is. I've played with the settings, restored to the stock rom, sent myself an email from the computer, but the notification never comes up. If I go into Gmail, the mail is sitting there for me to read though.
View 39 Replies View RelatedI've had my Hero for about 4 months now, and other than the battery issue (I do use it a lot) I'm pretty satisfied. However since Thursday last week, I've had the SAME phone number call me, have someone jabber at me, and then hang up! I looked up the area code, and it's in Jamaica! Today has been the worst, I've had 5 calls from that same number. Frankly its really started to get annoying. I called Sprint, and asked customer care if they can block that number from the account. And they can't do that. Apparently blocking that number is an infringement on their rights. On my Hero, I've been able to find that I can just push all those calls from that number to my voice mail, but I can't block it from my line altogether. Anyone else having the same or similar issue that has come up with another option?
View 13 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to enable the notification bar to display the email header (sender, subject, date/time) of the latest email received, as well as the number of new emails in the notification tray?
I am coming from a Pre, which had a very nice notification system. The new email notification would show the sender, subject, and number of new emails. You could then click to either go to the mailbox, or directly to the latest new email shown at your discretion.
I have set up both GMail through the GMail app, and an Exchange server through the Mail app, but the only notification I get is "New email" without specifics. Also, clicking won't bring me directly to the new email, but to the Inbox.
Is there any way to remove pre-installed programs?
For example, the following programs were pre-installed:
Amazon MP3
Footprints
Teeter
And maybe some others.
I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?
Sprint TV
Sprint-Nextel
NFL
Nascar
Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?
A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.
Is this the update the froyo? Because I just updated to 2.1 couple weeks ago what is this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedIn order to root, I've got to have Flash_image in the system/bin directory. I don't have that file in the directory. I have the flash_image file from the RUU 2.1 leak I installed yesterday, but due to having no root access, I cannot copy the file into the system/bin folder.
I tried rooting and got stuck at flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img because it kept saying "flash_image not found"
Does anyone know of a SIP application that integrates with a VoIP phone system?
I downloaded SIPdroid, but you have to use VoIP service through PBXes.org.
I have a VoIP phone system (ShoreTel) in which I can set up SIP extensions. Assuming I have an app on my phone (iPhone has this app), I can walk into my office, have the local wireless network connect to my phone via Wi-Fi, and automatically assign my desk extension to my phone. Therefore whoever calls my DID or my desk extension, it will ring directly to my Hero.
There are currently push notifications available for iPhones, Palm Pre and Blackberries each provided by their respective manufacturer. However I have heard nothing for Androids (probably because google does not actually sell the phones themselves.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my Hero won't perform any System Updates. When I click on any of the top 3 update options (Firmware, Profile, or PRL) the option turns green while my finger is on it but doesn't respond. This happened in the weeks before the 2.1 update also, but I just stuck it out, and after the 2.1 update it worked again - until recently. Now no updates can be requested. No root. Any ideas?

View 49 Replies View RelatedFor whatever reason this has been happening a lot to me in the past couple of days. I have never had this problem before. I can get it to work but it seems like I have to reset my phone every time in order to regain access. This is really frustrating because I have been altering the framework and resources files to theme.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI was using Astro and i found the folder on the Hero that has all the boot images, sounds, and animations. i was trying to create my own custom animations and put them in there to replace the others. Well when i try to copy the files into the folder it says i have insufficient permission so i was wondering if anyone knew of a way around that without rooting or something like that!

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter a hard reset on my first Hero, the factory/system wallpaper files disappeared. Thereafter, I was unable to set the background for the lock screen to anything but the default. When I go to set lock screen background, the device reports "no media found".
Now that I have another Hero, I would like to backup those 22 factory background/wallpaper files.
1) Is that possible? If so, how? Does it require me to root the device so I can actually "copy out" the files?
2) Does there exist a backup software that can do a full system file backup? If so, please recommend one.
3) I have seen several file manager-like applications. Do any of these applications browse system files and allow one to copy them? (Is rooting reqired)?
4) Does anyone have copies of the system/default wallpapers? If so, will you please zip them up and post it here?
5) WHY did the pictures disappear after a hard reset? If they are part of the ROM, why did they not return after a reset?
I can't figure out why my Hero won't connect to my home wireless system.
I'm able to connect in other hotspots around town but for some reason not in my own home.
I have my router set up with WPA-Personal security and after numerous times attempting to connect by entering that god awful encryption key (learned how to cut & paste on the Hero) no luck.
Reading other threads on this subject I took someone's advise and reset the router to use WEP security with the same results.
I have a wireless laptop and printer in the household that use my wireless system just fine. Why won't my Hero play nice?
How push works, and why my gmail on my hero is not a true push email even if it takes less than 5seconds for an email to arrive after being sent.

Is anyone aware of a listing of apps that require Android 2.1 to run (e.g. apps like Google Goggles, etc.)? I've searched the threads here at Android Forums and elsewhere and haven't been able to find such a list or site.
Now that I upgraded to 2.1, I'd like to "see what I've been missing" and take advantage of the new OS.
I am trying to edit the hosts file to access rest services in my local network. Using adb pull I am able to get the hosts file for the emulator and edit it. However I get the error "No space left on device" when I do an adb push.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Can we increase the space for /system? If so how? Are there any other easier ways to access local area network (without creating a DNS server).
Im sure it is posted somewhere, but I just can't seem to find it.How does one go about uninstalling Sprint bloatware on a rooted phone?

Is there any setup involved or do you just download any voicemail app, disable the built in one and you're ready to go?
