Does it affect the battery if I constantly keep my phone plugged into my USB while at work? It's kind of warm right now, but I'm not worried b/c it's not overly hot. I just want to make sure it's ok. I got this phone Friday for my wife and myself and we both love it. My wife says she can't hardly put it down. I'm sitting at work streaming pandora while I work.

So if I wanted to stream music on the phone at work, do you think there is an app that'll disable battery charging if I have the phone plugged into power plug? basically draw juice from wall and disable battery from use or charge.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I changed my DPI setting to 150 since in launcher pro I use 5 rows instead of 4 so it doesn't overlap etc. And wanted to ask if changing the DPI setting may affect the battery usage (recalculating screen) or CPU (making it slower) or the games will lag? etc.
Changed it back, I think was lagging and the text boxes were smaller not on the whole page. And the confirmations had green lines in the middle.
How I did it:
1. Root Explorer , mount R/W in system
2. Open in text editor.
3. Edit the build.prop line with ro.sf.lcd_density=150 and save the file
4. mount R/O and reboot
Still if someone knows something about the battery usage and cpu etc. So I know in future if I should play around with this one.
Just got my D2 yesterday after spending way too long with the Eris... so far I'm loving it, but I have one question: do everyone's phones seem to randomly open 10-20 apps in background at all times? These aren't even apps I use, like a Sudoku game I haven't tried once yet. I'm not too worried about it, since performance seems to be fine, but I'm wondering if this will affect battery life.

Then I use the phone for a couple of minutes (check my facebook, check email, check weather, and maybe send an SMS text) and I'm down to 30MB of RAM, which almost never goes back to anything close to 60's. Is this normal? I feel like no matter how many apps I manually close (minus the essential ones) I am still sitting and very low available memory (that is, if 30MB is supposed to be considered low).Anyone able to shed any light on this? What happened to Hero's 288MB of RAM?

I have tried on mac, boot camp and regular Windows machine running vista. I have had a moment and the hero in the past and have rooted but Just can figure this out.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst off, let me say that I really really like these forums. I have been lurking forever and have never had to post any questions because I can ALWAYS do a search and find a post that leads me in the right direction. This one has me stumped though.
I rooted this past weekend and flashed the new fresh2.0d ROM. I upgraded the 1.5.2 image to 1.6.2 and I just installed the 2.42.00.03.10 radio.
Now when I back out of any program I get a black "fresh" screen and my home screen loads like it does when the phone boots up. My twitter app and my bookmarks do the same. This is each time I back out of a program. It only started today after I upgraded the image and radio. Would those cause this or is it another problem?
With 2.1, my screen remains lit when I'm plugged into a USB port for charging. No big deal, but certainly means it isn't charging as quickly.Is there a setting to have it go off when plugged in?(I am also using Power Manager, but it doesn't seem to have this setting.)
View 4 Replies View RelatedUpgrading my Sprint Hero to 2.1 has been a complete disaster. The one improvement is that the browsers work faster. Oh...and the menus are prettier and perhaps more intuitive.
The phone and just about every other function hangs, the phone locks up constantly - especially when entering and leaving email - and generally is unusable. I've been doing battery pulls 4+ times a day just to get the phone re-started when it locks up.
I work for a university and they got me a warranty replacement, which I've had for all of 8 hours. I can already tell that it's not as responsive as the previous Hero before I "upgraded" it. I'm just hoping it won't be as consistently laggy and non-responsive as the upgraded one.
My advice to anyone reading this thread - if your phone has not been upgraded to OS 2.1, DO NOT DO IT. Wait until a couple more updates are available...my experience has been completely bad.
Right now I can't wait for another update, hoping that it will resolve all the lag and hangup problems created by 2.1.
EAS keeps asking me to provide my current pwd and change it to a new pwd? i have three gmail accts i want to monitor two actual "@gmail.com" accts and one google apps acct i've got the two gmail accts in the stock gmail app i wanted to use the exchange client for my google apps but after i configured the EAS client, i keep getting prompted for passwords!
View 14 Replies View RelatedLately I have been getting very poor signal strength on my Hero. It went from 3 or 4 bars, down to 1 or 2 at my house, and I constantly drop calls. I live in an area where I am supposed to have excellent signal strength too. Called tech support, they checked the towers, and all is fine. I have my phone set to Sprint only, and whenever I make a call, and end the call, my signal drops to 0, and sometimes even get an x meaning no signal, but either way what bothers me is when I end the call my data, whether it is Ev, or 1x lights up and sends/receive's data for about 5 seconds. After that the signal comes back. Now what in the world does data have to do with voice? Nothing. My phone is stock with no 3rd party apps installed at all.
I have reset to factory too, doesn't help Firmware and PRL are both up to date too.
I've had my Hero for a few months now and it has been wonderful. However, the other night, the phone wouldn't charge all the way, so I unplugged it, restarted it, and charged it and it charged up to 90% through the night. Last night it only charged up to about 50% give or take. This morning at work, I plugged it in and instead of charging, it got extremely hot and then it died.
This afternoon, I took it to the Sprint store and they put in a new battery and the phone worked again, but it got REALLY hot again. I took it back in and they looked at it again and said the phone has definitely got a problem and the cause of this is water. It has been raining, but I don't recall ever having any water get in the phone - just the occasional rain drop hits the screen and I wipe it off. I never keep it out in the rain. They are saying I'll have to do an insurance claim to replace it because of water damage. They say there are 4 water marks in the phone. I find this so hard to believe and don't like that they want me to spend $100 on a new phone.
Maybe this has been talked about before but im going to ask this anyway. A couple of nights ago my battery was at about 30% (yellow) so i decided to turn my phone off and go to sleep, well when i woke up my i turned my hero back on, and the battery was at 9%. So last night the battery was low again and i decided to take the battery out and when i woke up i put it back on and my hero had the same battery life as last night

I did a FDR Tuesday night and through most of the day Thursday it was much better. Thursday evening i started reinstalling apps to test if it was actually better and noticed as soon as i did that the phone was never sleeping again. My up time and awake time were almost the same as soon as i reinstalled everything. So last night I uninstalled everything again except for swype. I'm going to watch it today but I'm not sure what to expect. Have you seen swype affect your battery life.

So, I wanted to know if the apps are still using battery power when I switch screens? When I press the center (home) button, it shows me thumbnail list of all the apps, areas I've been to or used. I can select and remove them from the list. I am wondering if they are still using battery power until I remove them from the list. If this does tend to use extra battery power, is there an app out there that will definitely turn off the app when I am not using it?
I just don't know how Android manages Memory/power. It just seems that I can watch my battery power decrease, even when it's not being used.
