May 21, 2010I have had DC 2.08.1 installed for about 2 weeks with no issues. I decided to go ahead and partition the SD to utilized apps2SD as I was having memory issues. That process, while not smooth, went through okay and the SD card is working with the partition and apps2SD. However, ever since that was completed, my Windows 7 box no longer recognizes the phone either as a phone or as a drive. My Linux laptop recognizes the drive without issue.
Any suggestions on how I can reintroduce my phone to the Windows box, at least as a drive?

To add new ringtones or SMS alerts, connect your Hero to USB and mount the device on your PC. Browser to the following folders:
Ringtones: /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
SMS Alerts: /sdcard/media/audio/notifications
Alarm Alerts: /sdcard/media/audio/alarms
However, I cannot find the media folder. Or maybe I have not even gotten to the sd card! I was able to add wallpapers and actually use them, so I did something right along the way.
So, if anyone wants to help a new android girl with this probably very basic task, please do!
I also synced all my contacts and my calendar from my GMail account. So, not 100% lame.

Jan 31, 2010I seem to get about 3Mbits down max speed on my hero, versus 17Mbits on my computer, both using wifi. Latency is also a slight issue. 3Mbits is okay, but just wondering if this is abnormal. I used the speedtest.net app, and I connect to my router using WPA1. Does everyone else get similar results? BTW I'm using Fresh 1.1 Rom.

Jan 11, 2010I've been overall satisfied with the phone so far, but have some questions I'm hoping someone can answer/help me with. I've looked through as many threads as I could and tried the advice I found, but still no luck. The phone seems incredibly slow all the time. I came from a Palm pre, which had issues itself, but the Hero seems so much slower. Opening apps takes time, even the phone takes time. I've installed and app killer, no luck. I've reset the phone to factory settings, no luck. I've updated preferences, deleted apps, reset phone. still nothing. I read and was told that the Hero was faster than the Pre, but mine doesn't seem that way. Wifi always drops when connected to my home router. My wife Sprint phone always stays connected, but not mine. I reset the router, disconnected and reconnected the phone, tried all advice that I could find. Nothing. Visual voicemail doesn't work with bluetooth. I was told that this may not be a phone issue, but rather that the application doesn't allow bluetooth. Can anyone confirm?

Dec 19, 2009Wife and I each have new Sprint HTC Hero. We also have a home wifi network using an older (pre-802.11n) Apple Airport Extreme base station as WDS main and an old Apple Airport Express as a WDS remote. When we're home we tend to turn on our phone's wifi.
As long as only one phone has wifi turned on, everything is fine. But within minutes of turning on wifi on the second phone as well, our wifi router starts to lose it. Apparent massive interference. After a few more minutes the router becomes catatonic, so much so that Airport Utility cannot even see the router at all.
A power cycle of the router fixes things for at most a few minutes, then it rapidly goes downhill again. Turning off the wifi on one phone (doesn't seem to matter which one) and power-cycling the router brings back perfect sanity until the next time wifi on both phones is turned on.
I have neither the time nor the energy to go through the inevitable denials and mutual finger-pointing with Apple and Sprint, but I thought I would make note of it here for the benefit of the community.

Jan 27, 2010Does anyone know of an app that can test what frequencies are being used in the area? I'm trying to figure out if something is interfering with my wireless router, and if so what it is. I've got "WiFi analyzer", but that doesn't show anything other than wireless signals directly from routers, even though a cordless phone runs on the same basic frequency.
In other words, I'd like to find an app that shows what frequencies are present near my phone, including what my phone is putting out. Is that possible?
HTC Hero :: Cant Mount Phone As Hard Drive In Ubuntu
Oct 19, 2010I have been able to mount my phone (HTC Hero) as a hard drive using windows xp, but I started using Ubuntu 10.04 and when I plug in my phone it mounts for a few seconds and then either unmounts for good or unmounts and tries to remount right away. Sprint HTC Hero :: Getting Android-Wifi - Tether To Work With Sprint 2.1 RUU
Apr 17, 2010I went from a stock 1.5 to 2.1 using the Sprint 2.1 RUU and all is well. I understand it's a dev build and as such is already root but when I trying installing android-wifi-tether (both 2.0 and 1.6) it all looks well except when I touch the icon to start and it fails. The 1.6 version did report I didn't have root.
What do I need to do in ADB/shell to ensure the proper permissions are there for AWT? This is the last thing I want to get working and I'm happy.
Do I need to remount the filesystem as rw? Add superuser? Not sure what's needed.

May 31, 2010I currently have a Hero (Sprint). I have some money and am trying to decide whether I want to buy an Evo off Craigslist (I'm not eligible for upgrade until October--I'll just sell my upgrade then for ~$200) and sell my Hero, or if I want to buy an iPad and sell my Kindle.
I was hoping to get some feedback here from people who own an iPad and could be a little more objective on how they use it than the Apple Fanboys out there.
Cost wise the Evo would be a little less -- I could probably buy the Evo for around $350-$400 and sell the Hero for around $100-$150, whereas the iPad would run me about $530 and I could sell my Kindle for $200. It's fairly negligible difference though.
I don't live in an area that has 4g or will in the foreseeable future. I do a lot of web-browsing on my Hero and spend around ~30 minutes a day reading RSS feeds (NewsRob). I read a lot of news sites and blogs throughout the day (outside of RSS feeds) on my laptop. I don't really use my Kindle as much as I thought I would -- I've read a few books, but I'm not an avid reader. I spend 80% of my reading time on news.
I very much miss my BB Tour's camera flash. I don't carry a regular camera and miss being able to take low light pictures (not looking for anything spectacular -- just the ability to take group pictures of friends and such).
I've played with the iPad and it is fun, and I could see browsing and reading news articles been very comfortable and more enjoyable, especially on the couch or something where I don't have a table. Some of the games are pretty fun (Plants vs Zombies!!!). I don't get eye strain from staring at an LCD screen.
The problem with the iPad is I'm just not sure when I'd use it over the Evo and my Kindle/Laptop. It's large enough that I can't carry it without a backpack, and then at that point I might as well carry my Laptop and/or Kindle with me. I'd also have to decide when to buy apps for the iPad vs the Hero.

Jul 5, 2010I have read a couple of threads that touched on this ring issue, but was unable to find any that had a solution or work around.Since the 2.1 update and the OTA update, many times when an incoming call comes, the phone doesn't ring. If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings.If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

Jul 16, 2010I got 2 Sprint HTC Heros 3 wks ago. They work fine with any WiFi network that shows up as available. Other WiFi networks are completely ignored and do not show up in the list of available networks. I installed WiFi Analyzer and it is also prevented from seeing the same "invisible" networks. One WiFi network which does not show up is my home network. Last weekend I was at a B&B in another state and had the same problem with their network. Their network was up and running and visible to other hardware but not to our Heros.
Our home WiFi router is a Linksys WRT110 running WPA-2 Personal AES. There typically are three devices on this network: 2 @ g and 1 @ n. I have seen other WPA-2 Personal networks show up as Available while traveling but have no idea what routers were used. I called Sprint support and eventually got to someone in Tech support who put me on hold after I explained the symptoms. 20 min later the call was dropped. So much for Sprint tech support .

Jun 14, 2010i have the newest firmware and everything is fine and i did read the "how to's" before posting this. i'm on sprint and i've got unlimited everything. i tried the "internet sharing" thing when i plugged it in to my computer (all htc sync software and drivers installed) and i kept getting a data call failure so i thought sprint disabled that feature. i was messing with the wifi on my phone and i connected to my router, then when i plugged it in i tried the "internet sharing" option again this time it worked. but, as in the "how to" it doesn't have the little 3g symbol beside the clock. all it has it the wifi symbol. so, is my pc connected to the internet via my phones internet or my home internet?
