Sprint HTC Hero :: Text Messages Coming From And Going To Random People
May 11, 2010I have the HTC Hero from Sprint. Great little phone. I'm having issues with texting. Here's my scenario.I receive a text from Facebook stating someone wrote on my wall. The from id is 123456789. I then get a text from a friend George. In the list view of of my texts George's text showing under the Facebook number. When I press on the Facebook name it shows the text from Facebook then from George. If I reply it goes to Facebook not George.It also happens under different users, appears to be very random and is causing issues as I'm trying to quickly reply, forget to check who it's going to, then I text someone something I shouldn't have. Not cool.Any ideas how to fix it? I downloaded Handcent SMS as well and that is having the same issue so it appears to be a root droid issue.

Aug 15, 2010I rooted my phone last night and was reinstalling all my apps and widgets. Before I went to bed, I clicked to download the HTC widgets battery, coin, and dice. I woke this morning to find 2 of them were stuck installing and one was downloading. I was able to cancel the downloading one and download and install it. The others are still stuck labeled 'installing' and I can't find any way to cancel or make them proceed. Any suggestions?

Feb 2, 2010With in the last week or so my home button doesn't seem to want to work. It will work for a while, but out of the blue it stops. I have to turn my cell phone off, turn it back on and it starts to work again.
Until it stops working again.
Anyone having the same issue? Anyway to resolve it?

Jan 16, 2010Is anyone else having issues with Hotmail at the moment? I can't get my phone to sync with my hotmail account all of a sudden, and I have literally done nothing to it since I got hotmail emails this morning. I looked on my account on my laptop and had 4 messages from various times throughout the day, and refreshing the mail didn't fix anything. I sent myself a test email and didn't receive it, so I don't know what the deal is.
Anyway, I'm sure it'll fix itself, but if someone else is having this problem I'd love to know if you've been able to fix it or not.
Edit: Soft reset didn't work, haven't tried hard reset because I have no idea why it would work when Gmail is working fine, phone is not rooted
Sprint HTC Hero :: Getting An Error Messege When Trying To Root / Resolve This?

I am trying to root my Hero by following the guides that are provided in this forum. When I enter the following command I am getting an error.
C:android-sdk-windows ools>adb devices
'adb' is not a recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
I am sure I am doing something wrong. Any suggestions would be helpful. I did download the .6 update and reverted back to the .5 version.
HTC Hero :: Composing Text Contacts Not Coming Up
Aug 9, 2010I am struggling to add a contact to a new text message, b4 2.1 I just use to start typing a contacts name into the contact box and it would automatically find the contact, now I have to tap the button next to contact and it lists everyone about 15 times each, which means it takes forever to load them up! Has anyone else had this problem? any ideas how I can sort it? I only have Google contacts marked on my contacts menu!

My problem: Why are there so many apps opened/running in the background when I haven't even touched my phone?
Is there a way to stop them from running until I use them?
Apps like Sprint Nav automatically runs. I haven't touched it in days, the GPS is off. This is just an example.

Nov 28, 2009Well have had my hero for around 3 days now. I have recently noticed a creaking sound coming from the home and back buttons. It rarely makes a sound from the menu or search button. But the home and back make this sound if I push the button or if I lightly press down (halfway pushing the buttons).
Is this normal? Do you get this on your hero?

After doing so, I did a factory reset and now the stock text messaging app won't stay open...

General :: Text Messages Displayed As If Coming From Different Number
Aug 10, 2013I recently created a new contact in my phone, entered their name, and messaged them with the default messenger. I then realized I entered the wrong phone number so I deleted the contact then created a new one using the same name but the correct phone number and texted them. Now, when they text me, it shows up in its own thread as if it came from the incorrect number I originally entered but when I reply I have to do so in a different thread that displays the correct number. In effect, this contact now has one thread for their incoming messages and one thread for their outgoing messages.
I've tried pulling my battery and SIM but that did nothing. I've tried deleting either or both of the threads and nothing. I've tried deleting them and pulling the battery and SIM afterward and nothing. I've found solutions for merging existing threads but that doesn't work at all for any new messages that are sent or received. It's a bit tedious having to go back and forth between threads just to talk to one person.
Sprint HTC Hero :: Text - Voicemail
Oct 27, 2009This isn't on par with the sidekick loss of data, but unknowingly missing text messages (across the board it seems) and unknowingly missing voicemails (less common, but still prevalent it seems) is a BIG DEAL. Even after I presumably fixed both text and voicemail issues, tested to confirm on both, I was surprised to find a few hours later that neither were working again! And I've not come close to toughing the 40MB limit Sprint is mentioning. I've had 100MB free on my phone the whole time. That's just unacceptable and means to me that some element of this product was released irresponsibly into the free market before it was ready. If there are fatal flaws associated with the use of task killers, or other 3rd party apps, this needs to be understood and communicated to the consumer.
As much as I LOVE Sense UI and the Hero in general, I'm porting back to my month-to-month Verizon plan to wait out the storm. Losing basic, critical phone functionality is NOT an option for me.
That's a real bummer for me because the Hero is *easily* my favorite phone on the market. Sense UI is forward looking, and I believe a bar-raiser for other companies, Apple included. But as much as I hate to give it up, it does sort of feel good to be back on the sidelines again, free to jump on the Passion (Dragon) or the like in the near future.

Was hoping to dictate texts and email, but I don't see the mic symbol on my input keyboard, and a cursory search of google nets results that point toward menu options that don't exist on my hero...

Jul 20, 2010I recently bought a Hero to replace my BlackBerry Curve and it's a big improvement in most ways. I very much enjoy this device. One of the ways it's not an improvement, however, is this text prediction/replacement thing. I'm hoping I'm just using it wrong.
The Curve had a bunch of words set up (and the user could add more very easily if desired) such that typing "dont" followed by a space automatically changed it to "don't ". Very handy.
With the Hero's prediction turned on, "don't" is an option, but one of a few, so I have to actually tap it to replace what I typed, and then add a space afterwards. It's only a couple taps, I realize, but it happens all the time, and I thought the prediction was supposed to save taps and make things easier, and this "dictionary" the Hero adds to seems virtually useless.
I've also found that I'll type something and neither accept nor deny a suggested replacement, and it'll replace what I typed, sometimes with a rediculous word that even changed the first letter I typed! Very frustrating.
For now I've turned off the prediction option, but I like to type "properly" with punctuation and proper spelling, and adding apostrophes and other things isn't a quick process with this keyboard.

May 24, 2010I am running DC 2.8.1 and love using the speech to text feature which is available everywhere there is a keyboard input. A friend of mine just downloaded the HTC 2.1 update and I noticed that he does not have this option. Was this removed from the final upgrade or is there a way to add it on to a stock Hero?
