I am currently downloading 2.1 and wanted to make sure I was able to get all my contacts back. When I go into "contacts" in gmail, everyone shows up. When 2.1 finishes, obviously I will lose everything. Will my contacts automatically show up on my hero once I set up my gmail account on the phone or is there more that I need to do?

Here is the deal, back in Jan when I finally got all my contacts sorted and edit after some issues with sync, I tuned off the Auto sync, with the idea that I would force a sync when I wanted to and I could watch what was going on.I have about 350-375 contacts in my phone currently. I want to play with some 2.1 roms so I need to get these synced to gmail so I dont loose them again. i can not get it to sync. I get :I have tried setting auto sync and still have an issue.
I recently had my phone replaced due to the dust under the screen issue. When I set up my new (refurb) phone with my gmail account, I had tons of contacts in my phone that I had never seen before. The girl at sprint said it imports all of my email contacts, and it looked like they had added contacts from email addresses I had only emailed once, that werent even in my contacts group on my email. They ended up wiping my contacts and transferring them over from my old hero. She said I should create a new gmail account, and use it ONLY for syncing my contacts, that way I dont get all the other email contacts in my phone also. Im wondering how I do this, because I want to set it up before 2.1 comes out for the hero, so when I upgrade to 2.1, I wont have the same issue.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed that the Family / Friends / Colleagues groups on Google (the default, unchangeable groups there) aren't synced with my Hero. As a work-around I've created 2 new groups, "My Family" and "My Friends", but this is messy (I end up with both "Family" AND "My Family" on gmail, but just "My Family" on my Hero). Is there any way to sync those basic 3 groups?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince yesterday, I can't sync Gmail, I cant actually download from the market (although I can initiate), and I cant open Google Talk (it opens for a split second then closes, no force quit or error messages at all).I have searched for a solution all morning.I have tried going to google and google storage in applications and clearing cache/data to no help.I even went back to a nandroid from 2 weeks ago, no help there either.The only thing I have done is accidently change my password online from a PC.I changed it back 5 minutes later to the original (which is the one the phone uses).I am using Fresh 2.0D.PS yes I wiped when I went back to an old nandroid backup...Yes my sync settings are correct.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have tried to get to the bottom of this problem a few different ways, but haven't had any luck and haven't found it in any other threads. The issue is that after the 2.1 update my gmail will not sync to the phone. I have gone to Settings < Accounts & Sync < Google and found that Contacts, Gmail, and Calendar are all set to sync but while Contacts and Calendars have recent times for their latest sync Gmail is always the same. I have unchecked/rechecked the Sync Gmail toggle to get the sync going and the arrows spin but it never updates. I have also tried to refresh from the Gmail app itself with no luck and logged into a Wifi connection to see if it would work over something other than the mobile network still no luck. I have also rebooted several times with this seeming to work to resync Gmail only once and not in the last couple of tries. I do have Advanced Task Killer and have used it to close down a few programs including the browser. This never had any affect in 1.5 but just wanted to make sure a new problem couldn't have come from that.

So I spent over hours trying to figure out a way to do it and eventually forced me to create all my contacts in my PC (which I just import/exported to my gmail account), but that took me about an hour or 2. So I was wondering if there was some way I can backup my contacts FROM the phone, directly onto gmail, or a contacts file. Because I know I will get contacts, and this information will be helpful in the near future.Also, please check out my other thread. My HTC is having major Awake issues.

View 4 Replies View Relatedanyone experience this within the last hour or so?I noticed that i had to sign back into my account on "Social Networking" in settings, but nothing is syncing back up. they are all still sync'd (if you go into a contact on the computer, there is a "note" in the "notes" section showing the link), but nothing is showing up. I'm guessing eventually it will download everything again and I just need to give it time, and I'm also sure it's a Facebook issue thing, since they just updated and tweaked their UI, but i was curious if anyone else noticed this.

Icon by phone numbers saved on phone is a cell phone, rather than the letter "G" which typically represents contacts pulled from Gmail online. I've had this issue - I believe - with my previous Samsung. Although I've seen this question brought up before, the answers are typically not device specific or have not been useful and clear to follow.

When I click on gmail, I get a "waiting for sync" message. It's been there for about an hour.
Is there something I can do to speed this along?

I've been searching and can only find people with Hero's saying there is an option in People - Groups, then press menu, and you should be able to select what groups to sync. But I don't have this option. (Though I did here one Hero owner saying his option wasn't there at first.) Strangely, I even have more contacts than my Gmail "all contacts". Somehow I have some duplicates or fragments, I don't know. how to leave out syncing All Contacts?

View 7 Replies View RelatedA little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I didn't understand the choices (save on SIM, phone or Google) when I created my phone contacts. About half came from GMail. But the other half either came from Facebook etc, or were created on the phone -- and saved to the phone. I can't find a way to re-save the non-Google contacts to Google. I want to get the phone contacts up to Google so the sync/backup system will work. How? (Other than manually doing the whole damn thing again.)

I add them to my phone. But If I want to mail them from my home computer. I want to manage the contacts directly from my Gmail. So when it does not sync backwards, I cannot.Any way I can sync the contacts from my Phone to Gmail?
