Oct 19, 2009I noticed that if i dont use the app to kill running apps after i exit them they are still running in the background is this normal for the Android? I am coming from Pre so not sure if they are killed when exited.

Feb 11, 2010After rooting and installing fresh, and the jumbo kernal, and setcpu I have noticed all my icons changed. I have no idea what they are, and it also seems I have some new ones! Jul 9, 2010I just rooted my phone and I know you can download icon packs and use better cut to specify what icon you want for a specific application, I was just wondering if there is an easier way to just load the icon pack and it will somehow replace the current default icons?
I also was wondering if there is any way to "theme" the notification bar. I would really like to make it transparent, but I don't want to use open home or ahome. I am sure there is an image sitting somewhere that I can change? I just rooted my phone a few hours ago.

These are my personal mods that I made and use for myself but am now sharing with you all. I havent tried/looked into making a "flashable update zip" so for now this comes as a package of APK files that you will push to your phone via ADB. Nov 25, 2010I notice that the home screen is customizable but not the four applications on the bottom, the call, email, browser and applications. How would I change those icons with different icons? Mainly the email and browser. How do I turn off or at least severly limit the data that goes to and from my phone. I do not have wireless and am just a bit paranoid about going over my data limit. I got the phone from work and this is my first smartphone so I am a bit nervous about anything I do on it.

Apr 15, 2010I know how to remove widgets... you long press on them to move them/delete them. My problem is this: I don't know how to remove regular icons on the Hero. On the Moment, everything was simply long press to remove. On this, long pressing the application icons on my home screen(s) just opens the associated programs. I kind of wanted to move them around, I don't wanna have to delete a scene everytime I want to move one icon around.
In short: How do you move/delete application icons from the home screens? (long pressing doesn't work for me)

Nov 25, 2009should the voice mail icon have a number on it like the email or text icons if you get a new voicemail? If I get a notification, it only shows up on the task bar. I was also experiencing not recieving texts. I have since done a reset which fixed the text issue (and sleep-for now), but not the voicemail. Should I take the phone back? I fear its anotjer software bug, not hardware. I love this phone, but I'm getting very annoyed that it can't even do what its suppose to.

I've been playing around with the App Organizer, and been putting things into folders. However, I am trying to do a few things.
Add shortcuts into the groups App Organizer creates, and/or create custom icons for Folders I put on the Home pages.
For example, I have 6 mail accounts (don't ask) and want to put them in a group called mail. Using AppOrganizer, I can only organizer the main mail icon into the group, I want to add the 5 other shortcuts I created for each account. OR I group them into a folder, but I want to change the folder icon to an envelope.
Also, anyone know any good apps that puts email notifications on the top taskbar?
Sprint HTC Hero :: Overheating While Running An Application
Feb 8, 2010I find my phone overheating. It was at 130 degrees! What was the problem? Well, I forgot to close an application! So if you have the gumbo kernel. Make sure you don't run any applications and leave them open. So if you ever have the same problem, turn off your phone and place it by an open window and let it cool off for a good 5-10 minutes.

Oct 16, 2009I wasn't able to find anything on this after a cursory search, but it seems like my music player sometimes kicks in when the screen is off and the phone is stowed in my pocket. I can't seem to recreate the behavior predictably by playing with any buttons, though, so I'm not sure what's triggering it.
I have the new HTC Hero on Sprint.
Any ideas what might be causing this behavior, or how I can stop it? It's pretty embarrassing, and I'm nervous to go into a theatre with the phone at all now, even when it is on silent. Even short of the music player, more often the phone will wake from screen-off with some other page up front (not the main home page, but one of the other views like the home page, the ones you get to by flicking right or left from the home page...

Nov 19, 2009I have checked for related threads to see if this was formerly addressed. It's been discussed generally, but neither specifically to the CDMA HTC Hero or the procedure I'm going to summarize below:
If you press:
Home --> and hold it for a couple of seconds
You get pictures (icons) of the last six apps you've run.
I was in the Sprint store today and the rep who also uses the HTC Hero told me there's an App that stops them, which can be downloaded at the Android Market.
It's called " Kill-Something? "
It's an App we can download that will force these off and perhaps save battery power, or at least stop them from running in the background.
Questions
1) Anyone know the name of this App?
2) Is it useful? Have you had any experiences with it either positive or negative?
3) Any other tips (in layman terms please) on stopping Apps from running in the background on Sprint HTC Hero?
