After I rooted phone I deleted apps I did not think I would use including the browser. I did not however think all the way through the process and of course now the search key does not work. I like using that key for work.
Can someone help me re-install? I asume all I need is the apk file?

With the Droid's 2.1 update, it will be getting multitouch in the browser. So I'm assuming that stock Android browsers will be getting multitouch from 2.1 on forward. I've always been under the impression that the purpose of the Sense browser was to incorporate multitouch that was previously missing in older versions of Android.
With 2.1 coming to our Heros, do you think the new Hero's will just use stock browser? If not, will there be any way to GET the stock browser on the Hero? I honestly think I would like the stock browser better, because I hate the "text autoflow" on the Sense browser. Everytime I zoom, it text-autoflows, and throws me onto some random place on the screen! Plus it makes the browser slower.
Does the Hero use the stock android web browser? Or, a browser made by HTC? I am having data issues with the Moment, so Sprint has a Hero on the way. But I love the stock android browser on the Moment.

Today, I installed universal one-click root app onto my phone from this link : [APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.2 beta 5) - xda-developers and I believe I got my phone rooted. Now, I am hoping to get custom recovery image installed on my phone so that I can nandroid back up my current stock 2.1 based image before installing CM6. I was hoping to try clockworkmod through ROM Manager app. Does this image work in HTC Hero ? If not, is there any other recovery image that I should try for my 2.1 hero ?

This setting is reset between sessions, I didn't use it frequently and eventually forgot how to go about making the change. Recently I had a need to access these hidden browser settings again and it took quite a long and frustrating search effort to finally locate this information which does not seem to be widely publicized. So, in an effort to save anyone else this trouble, I figured I would post the information on how to do this on a couple Android boards that I frequent and also include a few words that might be picked up as search terms for anyone else trying to find this info. I think because its a HTC phone it is made with the black bar, but is their anyway to extract the APK from any other android phone if such a file exists and just install it on the Hero, I really prefer the white one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the life of me, I can't find a way to search for entries in my calendar other than manually swiping left or right while viewing the day in time grid format. This works of course but it has some obvious limitations. Now I can predict that someone will say, just use the Gmail Calendar. This is because calendar entries input into the Web Gmail Calendar show up in my HTC Hero calendar and the Gmail Calendar has a search option; i.e. so I could go to the Web, open the Gmail Calendar and search for the item there. This method works, of course, but it's kind of double the work and forces me to depend on the web instead of my HTC phone where I'd prefer to search directly inside the default Hero calendar application.

As a long-time Palm user, this was something that I used very regulary and I was surprised to find this feature missing ? it seems like it should be standard. Every computer/laptop has it in the form of either the Finder or Start/Search and a lot phones have it too. Anybody heard anything adding this one or anthing else relating to it? Or can you do this after you root?

Prior to this issue, when I used either of the search widgets as I typed it would populate search results below the search text box. For some reason now this isn't happening. When I search now I don't get the instant results. I have to submit the search, and it will display the google search results in a browser window.

I then tried to downgrade the phone installing the the Sprint RUU and when I tried to install the AndroidSDK drivers I can't get to see the Serial Number of my device when I search in the command bar (following the steps of the Unlock). I'm in People, then click Menu and the Search feature was right there; has it been moved or removed? 2. I also responded to another post in a different phone forum about the missing Phone "Favorites" sub-feature in 2.1. Anyone know where that is? You can add a contact from your recently called list to your "Favorites" by hard pressing the contact name, but there's no associated Favorites app to go along with it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI hate the lock screen on the Hero, I know their is a way to turn it off, but i don't like getting a message and then the phone doing something in my pocket. Is their a way to extract the .apk of the lock screen from the droid, and just install it on the hero, I understand that the resolution on the hero is different, but hate the current lock screen, i have to slide it down 2-3 times for it to recognize. I downloaded lock 2.0 already on the market, its not bad. but it takes 3-4 seconds on my phone to actually give me the slide to unlock screen.
