Sprint HTC Hero :: No Internal Phone Search Feature?

Feb 11, 2010

there is no internal phone search! This seems really strange to me for a phone that has the Google branding. So they?re just for the internet and nothing else!? As a long-time Palm user, this was something that I used very regulary and I was surprised to find this feature missing ? it seems like it should be standard. Every computer/laptop has it in the form of either the Finder or Start/Search and a lot phones have it too. Anybody heard anything adding this one or anthing else relating to it? Or can you do this after you root?

Sprint HTC Hero : Way To Customize Vibrate Feature?

Apr 7, 2010

I realize that there isn't really a way to customize the vibrate function with stock functionality. And I realize that Handcent provides such an option (which I loved, for the short time it worked), but Handcent also causes vibrate to stop working almost completely in the phone (except for calls) even after being uninstalled. So Handcent is no option. Quite surprising actually, that they'd have such a fatal bug in the program. You always know when it happens to. You go to send a text (after some undefined amount of successful texts), and suddenly the phone reboots as you're sending. At that point, vibrate has stopped working for pretty much everything except calls. Anyway... my question is whether there's any other app out there to either customize the whole vibrate function, or at least customize it for texts. I did a search and couldn't find much information on the subject (and some of what I *did* find was rather old). Two quick vibrates is not very useful for texts when it takes much longer than that to notice it vibrating (especially with how weak and quick those two vibrations are).

Sprint HTC Hero :: New Feature Found In Contact List Or People

Aug 9, 2010

I discovered this new feature today... well, actually I should give credit to my son, who got his hero about 3 weeks ago for finding this.

Pressing on the contact's picture in the people list pops a little menu that allows you to easily choose whether to call or text them. It even provides the Handcent icon if you are using that as your main messaging app!

Just thought I would share this finding, in case I wasn't the only one who didn't know about it!

Sprint HTC Hero :: Avoiding Slide Down Feature To Answer Calls?

Nov 18, 2009

When my phone is on for a while, the screen times out (Screen Time Out - depending upon settings). If I hit the red button on the right, the screen lights up, but I'm not yet at the Scene pages. I have to "Slide down" to get to main scene desktop. If I have my Security set to require a pattern, I will have to enter a pattern. For purposes of this question - assume there is No Security Pattern set. Hence, the slide down goes directly to the Scene desktop.

Screen Timeout
Menu --> Settings --> Sound & Display --> Screen Timeout -->
Various options including:
* 15-seconds
* 30-seconds
* 1 minute
* 2 minutes
* 10 minutes
* Never Timeout

If I set the Screen Timeout to 1 minute, it'll go dim, and when I hit the red button, it will require the Slide Down to get to the Scene Desktop. If I set the Screen Timeout to "Never timeout", it'll never go dim, but this will use more battery power. Once the Screen is Timed Out, it requires the Slide-Down feature to get to the desktop. When receiving an incoming call, the Slide-Down feature is required to answer the call when the phone is Timed Out.

Question
Is it possible to avoid this Slide Down altogether? It seems the only way to do this is to set the Menu --> Settings --> Sound & Display --> Screen Timeout --> Never timeout

I don't want to use "Never timeout" because this will use more battery power.I find it annoying when I receive an incoming call, if the screen is Timed Out, I am required to use the Slide Down menu to answer the call. Problem is, the moment I do this, it answers the call. There is no: Answer / Decline option available unless the screen is in non-Timed Out mode. I want to be able to answer my phone and completely avoid having to deal with this Slide-Down feature when answering incoming calls. I don't even see the picture of the person in my contact until I slide this down. It would be nice if I could avoid the Slide-down altogether. I would like to have it set such that when the phone rings, I can get immediately to the Answer / Decline option.

Sprint HTC Hero :: No Internal Memory

Mar 4, 2010

Ok, so I have the Hero and so far, I have 30 market apps installed. The problem is, I went to download a ringer from myxer and the phone responded that I didn't have enough space to do so. What? I checked the space available and it said only 44mb. I'm not that smart with smart phones, but I know something's not adding up. I've tried turining the phone off and on w/o success.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Can Someone Explain Internal Memory?

May 8, 2010

Yesterday, according to the internal memory widget, I had used up 143mb of my allotted 159mb. Needing more space, I uninstalled two apps, (Paper Toss and PDF Viewer) that were about 3MB each. I also cleared my dalvik cache. My phone was then down to 136MB used. Today, my phone is back up to 143MB used. I haven't installed any apps since yesterday. What happened to those 6MB that I freed up?? (Rooted and running Fresh 2.0d and I am not using apps2sd)

Sprint HTC Hero :: Internal Memory Dilemma

Feb 18, 2010

I love my hero, so please don't read this post as one of those whiny rants. I would love any feedback/suggestions for those of you who are in a similar situation as me. I have owned my hero since september, and for the past month I have been riding the edge of my internal memory being completely full. I have 104 apps (including stock) totalling 144mb of my 159mb available. I am at the point that I can't update any apps (increases their size) and if I want a new app, I have to go through my phone and delete ones I think I can live without. I clear my caches regularly and I am at the point where I am just maxed out. If I get too close to the limit, my phone gets extremely laggy, and goes crazy at reboot and everything force closes until I delete some apps and reboot (that is a whole different issue). Is anyone facing this issue and if so, how do you deal with it?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Low Internal Memory With Apps 2sd?

Jun 15, 2010

I apologize if this is a question that has been asked before. But, I wasn't able to find a thread that really answered my question.

I run Aloysius 2.1 as my ROM, and I run Darktremor 2.7 apps2sd. I have a 16gb sd card, and it is partitioned. The apps that I download are being saved to the sd card. But, yesterday, I had to data/factory reset, wipe dalvik-cache, and wipe SD:ext partition. With the help ofKelmar I was able to get things working again. After I got it working, and did a nandroid restore, I still had to go re-download all the apps that I had. Prior to doing this my internal storage showed around 40-41mb. It now shows only 23mb after re-downloading all the apps I had. I know that the apps are being saved to my sd card, but, I would like to figure out why my internal memory is still decreasing, and why it is so low in the first place since I am running apps2sd?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Internal Memory Disappearing - How Much Do You Have?

Aug 17, 2010

My internal memory has a parasite that is slowly eating it away. I have figured out that when internal memory gets below 16MB it turns on the little warning in the status bar. So, this is how I'm checking my internal memory so everyone that takes their time to respond to me is using the same method. I got to Settings> SD&Phone Storage, at the bottom of the screen that comes up is the "Internal Phone Storage" Available space and mine says 15.84MB. Today I installed a highly rated memory manager from the Market and it didn't help at all. So my first question is How much "internal Phone Storage" do you have left?

Now my second question is when you got to Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> and scroll way down to "Mail - HTC Corporation" and click on that. Now look at the storage. Mine says 15.64 MB Total. Which breaks down there to Application 2.59MB and Data at 13.05MB. Clearly my Mail program is holding the biggest chunk of memory. But I want to know how this compares to everyone else's. If this is true then it would account for the parasitic growth or loss of my memory.

So if I'm way different then this will start a good discussion on what to do about this problem. Just let me say at this point that I delete all email once I have read it. I delete the sent, draft and Trash folders too. I also go into the SD Card and delete everything that is in the .Mail folder too. So if my phone is storing old email now I have to find out where and delete it.........

I so appreciate everyone weighing in on this perplexing problem.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Internal Memory Still Disappearing

Sep 28, 2010

HTC Mail at 23mb
Maps at 9mb
Contacts Storage at 8mb
ES File Explorer at 6.5mb
Quick Office at 4.0mb

I have a great Cache Cleaner that the last time recovered me back to 40mb of memory but now I'm down to 18mb with everything and it still seems to be disappearing. Any idea's? I don't sync with Facebook or Google. I store NO mail in either of my two mail accounts and I use Handcent for me txting and I don't save anything there that I'm aware of. This phone just has a habit of consuming memory.

This phone is running Damage Controls last 2.1 rom too.

I am running Fresh 2.0d and I have apps2sd working with an ext3 partition. (I know this because the phone basically dies if I unplug the SD card and because there is an app folder under /system/sd/app). I still have very low internal memory (about 23mb remaining). It seems that when I install an app, it installs on the SD card and on the phone's internal memory. What's going on! I have also tried rebooting and repartitioning the SD card.

Sprint HTC Hero :: How To Search Calendar Entries?

Jan 28, 2010

For the life of me, I can't find a way to search for entries in my calendar other than manually swiping left or right while viewing the day in time grid format. This works of course but it has some obvious limitations. Now I can predict that someone will say, just use the Gmail Calendar. This is because calendar entries input into the Web Gmail Calendar show up in my HTC Hero calendar and the Gmail Calendar has a search option; i.e. so I could go to the Web, open the Gmail Calendar and search for the item there. This method works, of course, but it's kind of double the work and forces me to depend on the web instead of my HTC phone where I'd prefer to search directly inside the default Hero calendar application.

HTC EVO 4G :: Swype Beta Double Tap Feature / Internal Memory Dropping

My other question is about internal memory. My phone has been dropping MB of internal storage like a bad habit.
