Sprint HTC Hero :: Software Versions And Lag - Compare!

My friend was a store advocate for the Hero and received his model before launch date. He received an in-store only software update mid-last month. I bought mine less than two weeks ago and did the software update last week. His phone is smooth as can be with plenty of widgets and apps, while mine is bogged with lag no matter who many times We have some software differences, I'll list them below.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Sending Pictures Via MMS - Size Too Large?

Apr 24, 2010

It seems like whenever I try to send pictures to others via MMS, it won't let me because the pictures are too large. I know I can have my Hero take pictures it smaller resolutions, but I wouldn't want low-res pictures unless I would want to send them via MMS.

The thing is, a lot of times I dont know ahead of time that a picture I am about to take with the Hero will be used to send in an MMS. So its hard to make the decision to take in a low res beforehand. I could just switch the Hero to take all pics in low res, but then what about all the pics I don't need to send via MMS? They will all be low resolution.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Can't Get Wallpaper To Size Correctly After 2.1 Update / What To Do?

May 19, 2010

Can't get wallpaper to size correctly since running the Android 2.1 update on the Sprint Hero.
The HTC wallpaper shows correctly but the resolution of wallpaper set from my photos seems to be about 800x600. The onscreen size remains the same regardless of the original photos size, I've tried everything from 340x480 down to thumbnail and it stays the same.
Also when I try to load a photo as wallpaper I get a horizontal crop box even though the screen is obviously vertical.

I am having is when I try to send a picture through picture message I get an error saying message size limit reached, you cannot attach this to your message. So in order to send a picture this way do I have to either:

a. change my camera settings to lower resolution?

b. is there a program or setting to automatically send a smaller image and keep my high res photo?

Obviously I would prefer option B as this camera rocks and takes some good pics.

HTC EVO 4G :: Antenna Will Compare With Hero?

May 26, 2010

Does anyone know how the Evo's antenna will compare with the Hero?I just moved to sprint to get the Evo, but had to switch early. My wife and I were given Heroes to hold us over for two weeks until the Evo launch.I'm noticing that i'm having reception issues in areas where my iphone, and Incredible got decent to great coverage. Is this an issue with the Hero alone or a sign of Sprints smaller footprint then AT&T and Verizon?

HTC EVO 4G :: How Does Sound Compare To Hero?

Aug 9, 2010

So my Hero got stolen, and I'm considering the Evo (I'm on a waiting list right now). What concerns me, though, is that Ogg Vorbis isn't listed as a supported music file type for the Evo, unlike the Hero. Does the Evo really not do Ogg? That would be a deal killer for me, since all my music is in that format. Also, for those of you who've had the Hero, how is the sound quality of the Evo in comparison, and does it seem to put out the same amount of power? (The Hero drove my big Sennheiser 580 headphones just great all by itself- I would hate to have to get an amp.)P.S. I did some searching, and could not find these subjects covered.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Is Phone Solid Hardware Wise / With Build Quality?

Aug 7, 2010

I am in between phones right now, and no longer have a N1 and am looking to replace it with another Android phone without switching carriers from AT&T.They currently have the HTC Aria(I have no interest in), the Samsung Captivate(Galaxy S), and will soon be getting the X10.This phone has been out for some time in EU/Asia and Canada for a bit, and I am fairly familiar with it. It seems the bad points are no multi-touch ever, Android 1.6 with a who knows for sure on Android 2.x, but the rest seems fairly solid. Most of the reviews are from when it first came out, and generally complain about the GUI being slow.My questions are basically:

1. Is the phone solid hardware wise, with build quality etc? I know it's mostly plastic, but does it feel cheap, hold up well?
2. Has Android 1.6 caused you any problems app wise? I'm fairly certain google navigation works on 1.6, which is a deal breaker for me if it doesn't.
3. How is the GUI, do you enjoy it? I can't stand Samsung's TouchWiz, Moto Blur, and prefer stock Android, but don't mind HTC Sense.
4. I keep reading something about the screen doesn't have all it's colors activated or something? Others say it is amazing. Curious if it is the Super LCD Sony is selling HTC to replace AMOLED.

I know the Galaxy S has a better CPU, GPU(Android isn't much for gaming anyways), more ram, Super AMOLED, blah, blah but their software is terrible and I don't like their form factor.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Hero On Sprint 2.1 & OTA Doesn't Ring On Incoming Phone Calls

Jul 5, 2010

I have read a couple of threads that touched on this ring issue, but was unable to find any that had a solution or work around.Since the 2.1 update and the OTA update, many times when an incoming call comes, the phone doesn't ring. If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings. If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

Android :: How Does Phone Compare To IPhone?

Feb 23, 2010

I am starting to regret my purchase of the Samsung Moment, I dont know if its with the Lacking OS of 1.5 as I see 2.0 on the website the interface is different with the phonebook, the way the screen looks. I still have yet to figure out how really this phone is the "same" or compares to the IPhone ... in simple ways of application use, I still see my friends on their I Phones talking to millions of people with in a 5 mile range to a 100 mile range on all these social applications. With also that in talk of Applications why is it when i try to get a NEW! or POPULAR! application I have the wrong OS I am starting to think I should of held out for the Nexus unlocked cause I think that is the only one you can get that does everything. I was really hoping for a socialized phone not a traveling phone. I will say it is handy ,when you go into the store to compare prices or when you go on a long trip finding restaurants, gas stations and such but the I phone helps everyone connect and thats what I really would like to see a SOCIAL app for ALL android USERS together!

Android :: How To Disable AGC On HTC EVO (Supersonic)?

Jun 9, 2010

I'm working on an application that needs to perform recognition algorithms on raw PCM audio captured from the microphone. On all Android devices I've tested, the PCM data is usable (i.e., raw audio data.) This is not the case for the new Sprint EVO. The Sprint EVO has AGC (Auto Gain Control) on the mic, which destroys the data such that our recognition algorithms no longer work. I believe this is a feature that HTC added to the OS for this device (and possibly future devices.) I've tested our application on a few other devices using the same OS version (2.1) and these other devices behave normally. Unfortunately, HTC has not yet posted the code used on this device. I expect that I may have to use JNI in order to bypass this for this specific device, and I'm willing to do this, but without access to the HTC source, I wouldn't know where to begin. There is no way to reverse the effects of AGC, so I'm stuck trying to work around it.

Samsung Galaxy S :: Compare Phone To Evo - Better Screen Technology?

Jun 18, 2010

Has anyone been able to compare the Galaxy S and the Evo firsthand? I canceled my Evo order to see what the S Pro will be like. On paper I feel that except for the Evo's slightly bigger screen the Galaxy S has better features including better screen technology, but as we've heard with some peoples' Evos there can be hidden issues. Any thoughts? I guess it's not really possible to do a side by side comparison yet unless someone has one of the handsets and travels to a country where they're selling the other one, or has had a chance to use a prototype.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Switching To Sprint Is Hero Their 2nd Best Phone?

Jul 6, 2010

I'm moving over to Sprint.I'd rather not pay the $10 4G fee (or whatever you want to call that $10 fee), so I'll probably stick with a 3G phone. Is the Hero the best option? What I really need the phone to be able to do is voice calling, text, email, web browsing, etc. I'm not a power user, so I don't think I'd use the full power of the Evo anyway, so that's another reason to stick with the Hero. And if I understand correctly, I'd be eligible for upgrade pricing after 1yr with Sprint.
