I have a Sprint HTC Hero and I can't find Google Goggles in the Marketplace. Is this not available on the Hero? I have the Fresh ROM 1.0 on my phone along with the latest firmware update.

Is anyone aware of a listing of apps that require Android 2.1 to run (e.g. apps like Google Goggles, etc.)? I've searched the threads here at Android Forums and elsewhere and haven't been able to find such a list or site.
Now that I upgraded to 2.1, I'd like to "see what I've been missing" and take advantage of the new OS.

This is becoming a routine. A new great app is coming out for Android, but is does not support 1.5. Even Google itself does not support this version since it is too old. I am sick of this, it seems HTC does not think it's urgent to take care of its customers. We should get 2.0 already!!! HTC, today's smart phones are measured in cool apps. You want to beat the IPhone, start moving your people and create this d*$m update.

Is there any reason to have both of these? It seems Barcode Scanner also scans QR codes and Shopper doesn't, so is there anything Shopper does that BS doesn't do?I also already have the Amazon app, which can scan barcodes (but maybe just finds them only on Amazon?) and Goggles, which seems to do a Google search for them. Basically, I'm wondering what the best barcode scanner app is without having to juggle four different ones.

Does anyone know if there is a google goggles API for Android? If not, is there one coming any time soon? With an API for this thing the possibilities are endless... So far all I've been able to find on this subject is a discussion about not currently having a version for the iPhone due to it's "google labs" status (iPhone version coming once it's more "complete"). I'm hoping an API may be released then. Anybody have any info on this at all?

How come this app is not available for the droid eris? I've searched the market a bunch of times and can't seem to find it. My assumption is that it is not available for the eris.

I keep getting an error when attempting to run Google Goggles. It loaded fine, but when I try to run it, I keep getting the same error: SORRY! The application Goggles (process com.google.android.apps.unveil) has stopped unexpectantly. Please try again. and it asks me to Force close. I do. I have even rebooted my phone a couple times and looked for updates. no luck. Should I uninstall and reload? How do I uninstall?

Whenever I take a picture in Google Goggles, i hear 2 clicking sounds coming from the phone. The first sounds comes when the capture button is pressed, and the second sound comes as soon as the picture is taken. I don't hear these noises when taking pictures through the regular camera app. It sounds like it's coming from inside the phone.

The biggest disappointment is that it doesn't seem to read QR Code. If so, it would at least be a replacement for Barcode Scanner. That way I would use it more regularly as goggles is improved.

Is anyone having stability issues with Google goggles on their Droid 2? It seems to always freeze when I attempt to take a picture or just becomes unresponsive to commands. More often then not, when I take a picture, it simply gets stuck with the loading symbol (red spinning circle) displayed.

For those who haven't tried it download the app. This thing is addicting. As long as the image isnt glossy it seems to do pretty well.

Google has released a Search by Sight application using the camera to detect and search! Search By Sight With Google Goggles. Unfortunately the fine print reads "Available on phones that run Android 1.6+ (i.e. Donut or Eclair)" so we'll have to wait until the 2010 update that @HTC promised. Still pretty exciting technology here! Maybe by the time we get it, the bugs will be worked out. It's a labs product still after all.

after installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?

Where are the images that you scan stored? Are they stored on your phone? Or on a database at Google? (They are stored somewhere since you can see the history of images you have used with Goggles).

iv heard ppl who downloaded android 2.2 online and installed it themselves on there phone since its not being offered ota. but im wondering if its safe? the phone is not actually getting 2.2 ever, so doing this would be my own choice. but im wondering if it will run smoothly, better than 2.1 update 1, and if there will be any problems or if anything that may not work because of compatability problems with the phone. because some people have said that 2.2 isnt being released to the hero because the phone is not physically capeable of it do to software and hardware (such as space ram speeds etc.), and others have said they installed it themselves and it works fine, that its actually made to run using less space then 2.1 making it better.

I have had a lot of smart phones but never used bluetooth headsets and have a few questions. Can you get a bluetooth earpiece for answering phone calls that lets you answer from the headset once paired?
Do all the earpieces support streaming or playing music/sprint tv audio/Google listen? Are they all mono or do some single earpieces have stereo? Is there an industry standard for noise reduction that I should look for in the feature list? Any other tips if I just want to buy one and be satisfied its the right one?

Is anyone else interested in how Google voice will affect calling minutes? If you currently have your GV number set to call your Sprint cell and your incoming call is from another cell phone will you be charged for the minutes? If you setup your phone so GV is used to call all numbers that you dial will you be charged for calling other cellular number because GV masks the number? I have been through every level of support that Sprint offers and no one can answer me. Sadly tier 3 technical support told me "Google Voice is useless on a cell phone and you would not want to use this anyway". I had nothing more to say after that!

I rooted my sprint HTC hero and installed CM6 on it the other day, and everything is working great... except voicemail. I was using the Sprint VVM app, and that worked, but I got that annoying SMS message with each new voicemail, so I decided to switch to Google Voice (for voicemail only). It seems to work, except when my friends (who also have Sprint) call, and I don't answer the call, they either get a fast busy signal or they hear a voice say something like "Call cannot be completed. Goodbye" and then it hangs up.
Calling from land-lines and other cells seems to work ok? I just enabled Google Voice today, so do I need to wait a certain amount of time before it works Sprint to Sprint, or? Has anyone else seen this before? I should mention, it only happens on unanswered calls. If i dismiss the call before it's done ringing, it properly goes to google voicemail.

I haven't been able to figure out how to change the google account I originally activated my hero with. The reason i want to change it is because my gmail app only opens email from that account, and I used a new gmail account to register my phone with that was specifically for my contacts, and now i cant check my other gmail accounts email. anyone know a good solution without having to format?

Just trying this out on photos of photos. And yes it works. These are my own shots taken with a DSLR, they are printed and hanging and I used my Captivate to photograph them off the wall. The first one I instantly re-tagged because I didn't realize the exact name of what I photographed. Another way to do this is to use a flickr app, like "Just Pictures" that can push shots to Google Goggles for analysis, but I was just trying this straight from my wall. Goggles by nyer82, on Flickr.
