Samsung :: Need Guide To Browsing Web On I7500

May 13, 2010

Drakaz took aggressive stance against apps regarding cleaning their cache or killing them in his latest Galaxo 1.6.3.1. That basically means if you surf the web and go to home screen, returning back will result in reloading of the page which takes time and bandwidth. The phone is quite snappy because all apps got killed almost instantly when pushed to background. What you can do to be able to surf without that reloading, you can do the following:install minfreemanager (6,8,10,20,22,24) or recreate boot.img with modified init.rcI don't use compcache from galaxo.conf, so if you want to try how I'm doing it, do the following: make sure the compcache is turned off in "Galaxo Configuration"'adb shell' and then:

Samsung I7500 :: Samsung I7500 - Low Middle Or High-end Android Smartphone

Jan 23, 2010

The Samsung i7500 Galaxy is, except the support from Samsung itself, a great Android smartphone with a very good (the best?) price for value. It's with 11,9mm the second slimmest Android phone after Nexus One with 11,5mm (right?) and has unlike the HTC phones a flash light and build in storage of 8GB. On most sites the Galaxy is (one of) the cheapest Android phones, I wonder if it's because Samsung is cheaper or HTC/Motorola more expensive by itself?

I personally would compare the i7500 with the HTC Hero, although in my opinion the i7500 still has a much better price for value.

Is it even possible to define if and which Android phone is a low, middle, or high-end smartphone?
Sure, it also depends for what purposes you bought and use your phone, but I still wonder were the i7500 would be if 1=low and 10=high end Android phone, and if there even is a number 10? I also think that the D-Pad is a big plus and not a minus in comparison to the scroll ball from HTC.

I cannot find any disassembly guides, etc. So I would have no idea what screws to start taking out, where to pry, etc. Anybody know how to replace the screen or where there is a guide?

Samsung Captivate :: Little Guide To Galaxy S To Laptop Via DLNA

Aug 16, 2010

[Guide] A little guide to Galaxy S to latop via DLNA.A Little Guide to The Galaxy S DLNA.This is not meant to be a comprehensive guide, but rather a starter's guide to get you on your feet. If you want to add more contents to this thread, feel free to do so. If you want to post this guide somewhere else, also feel free to do so, but do give credit where it is due.Wikipedia's definition of DLNA: The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a non-profit collaborative trade organization comprised of more than 250 member companies[3] in the mobile, consumer electronics, PC, and service provider industries. Alliance members have stated the common goal of using standards-based technology to make it easier for consumers to use, share and enjoy their digital photos, music and videos.

What this mean is that DLNA allows you to stream videos, pictures and music across multiple platforms without the need to actually transfer the file itself. Streaming between hardwares that comes with the DLNA label is easy. However, if you do not have a wifi capable TV, the next best option would be to stream to a computer screen instead. And here is what you need.A Galaxy S (or a Captivate for our dear U.S. buddies)A wifi capable computer - which can be a laptop or a computer connected to a wifi router.Windows Media player 12.

Samsung Captivate :: Complete Guide To Flashing Froyo And Rooting In 2.2

Oct 23, 2010

I have read a ton of articles on this site, XDA, and other about doing a pre-official upgrade to Froyo on my captivate and then rooting it. This is officially the correct way to do it. The easiest way I found. And of course I am not responsible if you mess your phone up in the process.

Step One:
Download all the drivers you can find for the captivate. Install them without plugging the phone in, and then plug the phone in and let windows pick up any additional drivers. (Plug the phone in and let it find drivers, then mount it and let it find more if possible.)Driver Links: 64 bit Windows. Download Samsung Galaxy S USB Driver for Windows x64 Driver for Windows XP X64 / Windows Vista64 / Windows 7 x64 - Softpedia 32 bit Windows. Download Samsung Galaxy S USB Driver for Windows x86 Driver for Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7 - Softpedia More Drivers.http://downloadcenter.samsung .com/ content/SW/201007/20100716004231953/SGH-i897_Captivate_USB_Drivers_5_02_0_2.zip **ALSO** Go ahead and download Samsung Kies. It will provide more drivers...4.0 inch SUPER AMOLED Display, Layar Reality Browser, Android 2.1 OS, 1GHz CPU Speed, 5 Megapixel AF Camera, Music Player - Samsung I9000 - Infotainment - mobile phones | SAMSUNG

STEP TWO:
Open Kies and plug your captivate in. Let it go through the loading and discovering the phone and all that song and dance. Also, check and see if your firmware can be updated. It is really easy to get the update through Kies. If there is any kind of updates, go ahead and do it. Even if your phone is already rooted, upgrading to 2.2 is going to delete everything you have anyways.

STEP THREE:
After everything has updates and your drivers are installed, (Drivers being most important here) It is time to flash your captivate to androind 2.2. There is a very simple program called ODIN that will do this all for you. to prepare for this you will need this version of ODIN Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites! download from and of these sources. You will also need to put your phone in debugging mode and change the USB setting to ask on connection. Download ODIN, and open it. You should see some blank boxes on the screen and two buttons at the bottom that say Start and Master Clear. This next series is important so do exactly as the directions say.
1) Plug the USB cable into the computer WITHOUT the phone plugged into it.
2) Make sure you have opened ODIN
3) Hold down BOTH the up and down volume buttons at the some time (Do not push the power button).
4) Count to 5 slowly and plug your USB cable into the phone while holding the buttons down still.
5) Download mode will pop up on your phone, it will have a green android guy on there and say very clearly that it is in download mode. YOU HAVE TO BE IN THIS MODE FOR IT TO WORK.
6) After that, in ODIN, one of the blank boxes should have something in it along the lines of COMM 4 or 3 or just anything in one of those blank boxes. Hit start.
**This process should only take about 5 minutes to do, if you are sitting there for half an hour something is wrong, go back and redo these steps.**
7) Let the phone do its thing. It will reboot and once it does, you are good to go and upgraded to 2.2

STEP FOUR:
Now it is time to root your 2.2 device, which is the easiest part of this. There very simple program to DL that will root your phone and enable side loading. Very easy to use.
1) Make sure your phone is set to ask on connection under the USB settings and debugging is on.
2) Download the software..[APP]SuperOneClick v1.5.1 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App, Get UNLOCK code) - xda-developers scroll all the way to the bottom of the post and download the latest version.
It should be Superoneclickv1.5.1-Shortfuse.zip*you may have to register for XDA but its free and has really good forums.
3) After the download is complete, run the .exe and follow the instructions.
Off the top of my head there should be a tab at the top of the program that says "Universal" and "Captivate" obviously make sure you are on the captivate tab. If you have to click "get unlock code" first then do so. unless you are experienced, just do the standard root and not the shell root. After this you will have Android Froyo 2.2 on your captivate and also have it rooted.

Samsung I7500 :: Confused Between I5700 & I7500

Mar 18, 2010

Sorry if this thread seems inconsequential but I have been rendering myselves sleepless nights over the past couple of days ( and nights ) due to my inability to choose between the above two said android phones. I like the i5700 for its zippy 800 MHz processor and that its got the 2.1 update. I like the i7500 for its 5 MP camera and flash + a larger screen to play with I would have gone in for the i7500 but have been hearing about Samsung deciding against not updating it to version 2.1 which can off course be done taking the un-official channel. Moreover the 528 Mhz processor is certainly lagging.

But still I see people in here Going after the i7500 .... Adding to it there is more threads and discussions going around on the i7500 as compared to the i5700. Am I missing something in the i7500 or is it just that i am a stupid newbie ... I have gone through many many pages of information on this thread before posting this query.

Samsung Galaxy S :: Definitive Guide To Save An "image" Of Phone?

Oct 6, 2010

I have had my Samsung Galaxy S for about a month now, and have just recently took the plunge and rooted it. I am now seeking a means of backing up my entire phone using a method that will essentially "freeze" my phone's current state, allowing me to restore to this exact state in the future, like an image of my phone. I want all apps, SMS messages, contacts, all settings, everything to be frozen in time as a backup.

I have searched these forums and through Google search results extensively and found a lot of information, most of it regarding Nandroid, Titanium Backup, SPRecovery, ClockworkMod Recovery etc. My understanding is this:

Titanium backup is more of a soft backup, it backs up your apps and settings and allows them to be reapplied.

Nandroid requires the recovery mode to be flashed using ClockworkMod Recovery

SPRecovery can be used instead of ClockworkMod Recovery, but they both have their own pros/cons.

Is there a definitive guide to achieve what I want?

Most of the guides I have read have been tailored to other devices such as the G1, HTC Hero, Droid etc.

TL;DR: I want to make a complete backup of everything on my phone, save it as an image, and be able to restore it later.
