When I'm connected to a wireless network with my Moment and browse the internet, how do I know if I'm using the wifi connection or the regular phone's connection (3G or EVDO)?

Going overseas in a few weeks mainly for sightseeing. I'm not worried about using my phone (I know it won't work on the networks there) but was wondering if the Moment would be good device to take for checking email and Internet in those spots I can get a wifi connection? Will it even work? or should i take my laptop?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf my screen locks while I have a wifi connection, then the connection is lost when I unlock the phone.First, is this perhaps deliberate, to save power? Also, either way, when I unlock the screen and go into wifi settings, I see that the phone is trying to make a wifi connection, but it never succeeds, even though it's my home network and I'm in the same room as the router. It just states 'Obtaining address.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter reading the forums and changing settings and doing a few battery cycles, I had been getting really good battery life of at least two days on medium usage and 3 days on light with my connection not having any real issues. Then, 2 days ago I installed weatherbug and beautiful widgets. While I enjoy both, it seems like my network connection goes down fairly often now and I need to turn on wifi to check email or do anything else web related. Has anyone else lost their network connection and been able to narrow down the cause? I'm hoping it's not one of these two, but I can't imagine what else it would be.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOkay this is starting to irk me, i've been trying to teather using PDA net through my stock USB cable, i plug in the cable the phone and computer reconize eachother i mount the cable through the notification bar, start PDA net, everything works great, i start watching a show on fox.com and get 15-20 minutes in when i get the usb device being disconnected tone, look over at the phone and it says preparing SD card as if i had unmounted it, if i try to unplug the usb and plug it back in it charges but i never get the notification to mount the cable again. I have to power off the phone and power back on to fix this. WTH is going on here, i know a lot of people were having issues getting the usb connection going but that appears to be fixed by removing and reseating the sd card, which i have done many times. I will have a perfect connection with the laptop and phone sitting still on a table when i randomly lose the connection and have to reset the phone.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMoment keeps losing evdo. Then the browser will timeout on all web pages. Email will not send or receive. Sometimes when this happens, I cannot text, or make a call. When it happens you can only see the up arrow on the left. Sprint store swapped it out for another Moment, and it did it in their parking lot. A few times after this happens I have to do a hard reset to get my email working again. Typing is slowing down on here as well.

This customer had a Windows Mobile phone before he got this and never had any issues. I don't see what else I need to do? Had anyone get this to work?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI keep having this problem with my Moment where it will refuse to do data connections. Sometimes rebooting helps, sometimes it doesn't. It happened three times today, and I was ready to throw my phone out the car window. It's happened on and off since I got the phone 2 months ago. I hoped it would go away after I updated to 2.1, but no dice. My wife, who doesn't use the phone as heavily, doesn't have these problems. Some days (like today) it seems worse than others. I see scattered forum posts about "evdo lockup" and "cdma lockup", but no real idea of how to diagnose what the problem is, and more importantly, whether it's worth taking it back to Sprint and trying to get them to do somethin.

But then when I try to browse any webistes I get a 404 error and if I try syncing facebook or anything else I get an error saying the server could not be contacted. wireless works fine on my mum's laptop and the phone is showing up in the devices list of my router's interface.

View 25 Replies View Relatedanyone else having this problem? using 2.1 under caulkin's kernel. it seems like I can kind of overload the phone doing too much and the mobile network connection on my phone will disappear completely. this is while downloading something that may download too fast, sometimes it happens loading .GIF images too. I'll have to restart the phone to get the internet back. this happens no matter if I'm using wireless, USB or bluetooth tethering.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have any idea as to whether Froyo will address the wifi issues on the SGS?My wife's phone will not connect to any wifi hotspot unless she is virtually sitting on the router.At home it is ok as the router is in the same room, but she has tried to connect to many wifi hotspots in public places and she can never connect as the signal is so weak.Other people with iPhones, HTC etc connect with no problem, but hers will not do anything.Is this something that Froyo will address, or is it more a hardware issue with the SGS?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the same issue with 2 separate Vibrants, actually 3 Vibrants counting the one I took back.I have problems connecting to either the market or internet across multiple browsers while WiFi is on.With both phones, it seems this problem is intermittent and across different brands of routers at different locations.
An example is when I try to enter the market.I sometimes will get to the market home page but when I try to pull up my downloads it comes back with an error message saying connection failed.Once I turn off WiFi it works perfect in 3G, or if I leave WiFi on, go back to the home page and then try just a minute later it connects without a problem.To make matters even worse, the problem persists while using apps that connect to the internet such as The Weather Channel.The problem is very intermittent.Sometimes I have no problems connecting, while other times it won't connect at all until I turn WiFi off or even reboot the phone.Both phones behave the same way.I've gotten to the point now where I just leave WiFi turned off because it's so unreliable.I know it's not the WiFi signal strength either as it is just as likely to happen with the phone a few feet away from the router's antenna as it is when it's 50 feet away.
So recently I have started to have a problem with my Wi-Fi Connection on my Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G , So I would be on the Wi-Fi fine then each time i click on a video it asks for "Complete action using" then my Wi-Fi instantly stops and the Wi-Fi icon isn't there anymore . After i clicked one of the option on complete action using, couple seconds later my internet comes back.
So problem is that each time i try to watch a video my Wi-Fi Stops when on Web. But then I can watch videos through the Youtube application.
Also Another weird thing is that after the Wi-Fi reconnects My "Use packet data" setting is auto enabled again.
Running 2.1 dd03. I've had a few issues, the worst being-
- Occasional complete data connection loss with no 3g/1x icon (never with 1.5)
- Google voice search works from the soft keyboard but prompts "server problem" from the widget.
- Tower based location puts me 20 miles away from home in the same place all the time (cj05 days are here again).
- Phone turns on by itself when charging and occupationally unlocks and stays on (never in 1.5)
- Phone seems to heat up more and burn battery more rapidly (vs 1.5) when in low or no signal area.
Here's the new one I had this morning. I received a call, but when attempting to answer dropped/lost the call. I went to the call log and re called the number, connecting with the other parties voicemail. After leaving a message, I hung up with the red hard button. After a short time I tried to call again, but the phone wouldn't connect (stayed on dialing). I pressed the red button to cancel the call and then pressed again to turn off the phone. The screen would not turn off. I could navigate the home screen and pull down notifications, so it wasn't locked up, but I couldn't turn off the screen. The red button would quit apps, so its press was registering, but a long press didn't bring up the power off menu. I had to pull the battery to power down. This is a long way from a release OS version. Fix soon.
My wifi will turn on, but will scan for or connect to networks. Anyone had this issue and know how to resolve it?

By default the wi-fi setting is set to go to sleep (and use cellular data instead) when the screen is off, which will most likely happen while you are streaming music as well as other things. To change it so the wi-fi never turns off, to into the phone's menu -> wireless and network -> wi-fi settings -> tap the menu button and select advanced which has an option for wi-fi sleep policy that had been defaulted to sleep "when screen turns off". There you have the option to change it to "never" or "never when plugged in".
ok so i got wifi tethering working just by using the barnicle app.its in the app market and also free. i'm running 2.1 dd10 with joery recovery v6 tested it out and works great.

I was recently on an airplane that had WiFi wireless connectivity (Delta using GoGo). I had my Moment and wanted to try it out. The problem is that the only way I could find to turn off the cell radio, as required by the FAA, is by putting the phone into "Airplane Mode". But, in Airplane mode, I could not get the WiFi to turn on.
So, what I really wanted was not "Airplane mode" but WiFi on and Cell Radio turned off. But I could not figure out any way to do that. Is it possible?
Is there a way to connect the Moment to a home wireless router? We just got our Moments Sunday and have really bad data reception inside the house. I couldn't set either of our emails up inside the house and when we do a search in an app it goes on until we stop it.

I just got the phone, read over the whole FAQ and had some questions.
1. Is there a way to keep wifi on as the phone seems to turn it off, or does it really kill the battery?
2. Is there any application that is capable of removing the system apps. I didn't understand what they meant when that was asked in the faq.
Phone: Rooted Samsung Moment.So I'm literally 6 feet away through one wall from a WiFi hotspot where I work. The campus is set up so that there is an unprotected WiFi access that is used for downloading configuration software. The other signal is protected and can be accessed using a common login. The configuration software is not needed if you know how to setup WiFi.
Here's the problem: the unprotected signal is the only one that the Moment will acknowledge, which is useless because it doesn't provide any internet access. The protected signal does not show up.Except when I use WiFi Analyzer when I can see both signals (which bounce around between 45 dBm and 60 dBm). I've tried to add the internet WiFi signal manually (WPA2) which is supposed to be a trick that works, but that's a no-go.Why can I see the signal on WiFi Analyzer, it be the same signal strength as the other signal, yet I can't see nor add it in the Android WiFi Settings? It's bugging the hell out of me.
I just got a Moment and I am trying to analyze some issues to make sure everything is okay. The specific one I am asking about here is that on the home screen when I am connected to my home WIFI it does not show any bars. However if I go into the settings and look at the list of networks, my WIFI network will show two or three bars. What doesn't make sense to me is that when I am connected to another WIFI it will show the same on the home screen and within settings.
I have read that if I show WIFI on the homescreen then that means I am using WIFI and not the Sprint Network. Anyway I would greatly appreciate any help to understand what is going on here.
