Samsung Moment :: Best Task Manager For Phone?
Jun 10, 2010I have had my Moment for about 2 months now and was wondering about which is the prefered Task Manager?
My friend had the HTC Ares, and he touted TasKiller which I have been using, and I briefly used Advanced Task Killer before I really understood the purpose.
Any recommendations that are Moment specific?

Nov 22, 2009There's a thread similar to this on one of the Hero forums. I tried to stop using the task managers on the hero, but I noticed a quite a bit of lag once stuff kept building up. On the Moment, I was running into several issues with apps, and I figured it was due to the task manager (i use advance task manager). So to test my theory I stopped using the task manager and the device works as it should. What i found was that even with a lot of usage, this device does not slow down. Not sure if it's the lack of the sense ui (i'm using open home), the fast processor, both or what but this phone can handle everything I'm throwing at it.My advice, stop using whatever task killer you're using. One less thing to worry about makes for a better phone experience.

Sep 8, 2010First of all congratulations everybody. I am soooo excited for each and every one of you. Seriously, I have a big smile on my face because I know that excitement, that joy you all are feeling. You won't be putting your phone down for days, I GUARANTEE IT! You guys seriously just purchased the most kick ass Android device, along with the rest of the Galaxy S phones!
The Vibrant and Captivate users are watching closely. Samsung has promised us a GPS optimization, and presumably your Epic and now Fascinate already has it. So you guys are our life line right now.
For those of you who will be testing out your GPS in the next few days, I'd like to make a few comments, so that we can get accurate GPS testing, to determine if the phone is actually using satellites like it should, or depends instead heavily on less accurate cell phone towers to determine your location, which means the GPS is still busted on these phones.
Okay, so here it goes. When testing your GPS, "Use Wireless Locations" should be turned off. Settings>location & security>Use wireless networks...make sure its UNCHECKED.
Read the note right under it, it says "See location in applications(such as Maps) using wireless networks."
If you put a check mark next to this, and turn this ON, then how will you ever know if the phone is functionally using the satellites. This is the big question with the phone, can it use and lock onto satellites or is Samsung hoping we use less accurate cell towers. Samsung hopes you have this on. I ask that you keep this unchecked, this is the only way to truly test the Satellite usage.
Further, by checking this, you are allowing Google to collect location data, even when no applications are running, they say its anonymous, but you never know.
So uncheck "Use Wireless Networks," restart your phone, make sure this is still unchecked, power up Google Maps, and go for a good long drive. Then please share your real world results. Including, how quickly it located you, was the location correct, how wide of a blue circle is there around your location, did the phone ever drop the GPS signal, etc. No 2 min drives, you really need to drive around a lot to dependably test this.
You can also download "GPS Test" from the Android Market, it will show you how many satellites your phone views, versus how many satellites are locked in. You need 4 LOCKED on satellites to get a true 3D positional lock that includes x,y,z,t. GPS test also shows your accuracy in ft, up in the upper right corner. Good accuracy is anything less than 10 ft. I have phones that get 5ft accuracy, the best accuracy I can get with my Vibrant is 40ft. Please report this number also. If you have time, upload a screen shot of your GPS test, or just take a pic of your phone running the GPS test, upload it and share your results.
You can also use the built in native GPS test. It is virtually the same as the GPS TEST program above, it's just not a pretty visual interface.
Go to your phones dialer, as if you are making a phone call, and dial in *#1472365# or if that doesn't work try *#*#1472365#*#*Then click on "get position test."
This test will show you your longitude and latitude, you can then enter this into Google maps to see how accurately it located you. It gives you accuracy in meters, convert to feet by multiplying the number given in meters by 3.28, you will now have your accuracy in ft.
The native built in test will show you have many satellites it has in view, the satellites that it actually locks onto will have an asterisk next to it. Please report both these numbers. Remember you need 4 locked on satellites for true precise 3D positioning.
I'm really interested to hear from prior smart-phone Android users, because these users will be able to make a direct comparison of the GPS to prior phones.

Feb 9, 2010Here I am with 2 HTC Hero phones, with only one on an active account. I would love to try out the Samsung Moment, but don't have the $$ to just go out and buy one.My hero comes with all it had when new, plus I have an extra battery for it I will add to the deal. This hero has only been used for about a week, and while using it, it "lived" in my Blackberry Tour holster to give it maximum protection. There are no scratches or rub marks on it, never been dropped and I have reset it to Factory Specs via the SECURITY MENU and the ESN is clear and ready to be activated on your SPRINT account.Please email me at sy@rayzel.com if you are interested. Don't get me wrong, webOS is clean and has a lot of potential, but for now...lacking would be a good (albeit understated) word to describe it. I want to jump the Pre ship for the Samsung Moment, but one thing I keep reading about the Moment is bothering me - everyone says it doesn't have multi-touch. However, I recently read that multi-touch is something Android doesn't yet support. This knowledge was previously unbeknownst to me since I haven't used an Android device since the G1 first launched. Since the Moment uses a standard Android build, the OS wouldn't allow multi-touch even if the phone were capable of it. So my question is: Does anyone know whether or not the Moment is capable of multi-touch? If it's simple a shortcoming of Android, I can deal with it since I know Android 2.0 should finally support it.

Jan 26, 2010I've already done the update but both pre and post update, my Moment intermittently won't respond when getting a call. The call comes in, I hear the ringtone but no matter what buttons I press, the phone won't respond. I have to wait until voicemail kicks in or the call has ended.
I called Sprint technical support and they're going to send a new (I hope it's new) phone. I hate to set up the phone for the third time. Is there a fix or should I just bite the bullet and get the new? phone? Has anyone had this problem?

Dec 13, 2009I currently have a voice plan, with sprint, for my dying LG Musik and my father's Palm Centro and am seeking to replace my Musik with a Samsung Moment. I have an upgrade available on my account, however I don't want to get locked into a data plan, since I rarely spend any time away from Wifi.

The biggest concern I have is how fast will the Moment be rooted. Its sounding like they are close with the Hero, and once that is done will that make it easier for someone to figure out how to root the moment? Or is it like starting from scratch from phone to phone? Im also a bit concerned that no one at XDA will be helping with the process since the moment is not an HTC phone. I had a Treo800 when it first cameout, and it seemed like it took FOREVER for roms to make it way to that device. Any thoughts?

Feb 18, 2010I am a Sprint customer looking for an Android phone for basic functions. I am trying to choose between the Hero and the Moment. I have 1 of each right now from Sprint, on the 30 day trial. Here are the challenges I find with each. Does anyone know of any fixes for these?
Hero
1) Phone hangs up during calls because of lack of proximity sensor
2) Speaker phone wont turn off once activated, unless I end the call
3) Vibration mode is very weak and basically useless. Cant feel it in my pocket
4) Sprint Navigation does not work
Moment
1) Battery runs out before end of day
2) Bluetooth is spotty and wont always connect
3) Web navigation not as smooth as Hero.
Sprint HTC Hero :: Task Panel X - Advanced Task Manager - Causing Errors
Nov 7, 2009I've been using Task Panel X and Advanced Task manager to kill unneeded tasks and keep memory at a maximum.
Recently, every time I open Task Panel X and then revert back to Home screen I get the HTC logo and then a loading screen while the device sets itself. This happens even if I kill NO tasks.
So my solution was to uninstall Task Panel X and then use just Advanced Task Manager. All the sudden, same result.
Everytime I open either of these apps and then go back to home screen I get a BLACK SCREEN WITH HTC LOGO, THEN A BRIEF (10 SECONDS) LOADING SCREEN. THEN ALL IS NORMAL.

Aug 3, 2013I got this issue with my SGS2 that I started to get into the running and started to need more of my gps to track my training and Ive noticed this weird behaviour of my gps.. It just wont even search for satellites whenever the 3g is on (you know the alert that says searching for gps).. installed the GPS checker to see if there was no satellites or something but it wont even search for them whenever I have the 3g on.. I found that the GPS works only if I disable the Mobile Data and restart my phone.. So I cant have both at the same time.. the minute I enable the 3g data it stops working and I have all the GPS options checked at the configuration and the wifi 3g assist.. What could be causing this?

Jul 9, 2010I couldn't find a review on the Otterbox Commuter case for the Samsung Moment but I couldn't wait so I ordered one from the Otterbox website for $31.45 with free ground shipping using coupon code "techbargains6100p" (expires on the 31st). Delivery was fast, I ordered Tuesday night and got it today. I don't like buying things without reading reviews so I figured I'd post this for other people that feel the same.
Inside the box:
Inside the box is the case (2 pieces), a screen protector and a microfiber cleaning cloth. I can't comment on the quality of the screen protector because I had one of the "invisishield" screen protectors put on the phone the day I bought it.
Materials and quality:
*The case has a silicone layer on the inside that shouldn't scratch the phone, and has a hard plastic shell.
*The case makes the phone feel sturdy and seems like it would do a good job absorbing shock if the phone were to be dropped.
*I like the way the phone feels in my hand with the case on it, I also like that the phone won't get stuck in my pockets.
*The case has a nice look to it. The back is textured (I think brushed aluminum is the texture they wanted to give it, maybe woodgrain or a cross of the two)
Fit:
*The fit is mostly perfect. It has a cutout for the headphone jack, micro-usb port, microphone (on bottom of phone), front speaker, and back speaker. The side buttons are covered in silicone, but have raised portions where the buttons are. The volume rocker has arrows on it, but the buttons on the other side are not labeled (voice recognition, camera, but I know which one is which).
*The part of the case that goes on the screen half of the phone has an indent on the left, to aid sliding the phone open.
*The case snaps on very easily (it has snaps, I don't know if they are the same as the body glove snaps but they work fine) but is much harder to get off (not too hard, just hard enough that it won't accidentally come off).
*The main problem with the fit of this case is that it does interfere with the slider mechanism which makes it a little bit harder to open (just initially until it starts moving) and when you slide it shut you need to press the two halves together to shut it all the way.
*It adds less than 1/4 inch of bulk (possibly closer to 1/8 inch but I am terrible at guessing lengths and don't have a ruler handy).
Competitiveness:
I have seen people ask how it compares to the body glove. I did not buy or own a body glove so I can't really give a fair comparison. The body glove looks thinner and possibly less protective. I don't know what the texture is of the body glove but it seems similar. It doesn't seem like there are a lot of cases made for our phone so I don't know what else to compare it to.
Conclusion:
I wouldn't pay over $30 for this case. It will probably turn up on amazon.com for less than that within a few months. The quality of the case is good, but I think I might have paid a little bit extra to have the brand. If you already have a case you are happy with like the body glove it is probably better keep using that until the price comes down significantly.
