Can apk's be removed from the stock CL-14 zip BEFORE reflashing. Maybe that's a way to remove Sprint bloatware? Anyone?

How do I remove these buggers! I also tried ASTRO explorer, still denied.
I've been with Apple for the last two years, so I'm sorry if these questions are relatively simple.
1. Will rooting let me get rid of any bloatware? Or touchwiz?
2. I hear that rooting on this isn't "true" rooting. What does this mean, will it eventualy be "true", and what apps will this prevent me from running
My phone keeps shuting off and its getting old but my gps seems to work fine. I rooted the phone and removed atts bloatware, i need to return it for another captivate. How do i get atts bloatware back or does it even matter?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI checked my data usage at the AT&T web site and found that the phone was sending lots of data on its own. One night while sitting on the counter it sent over 19 megabytes at 2:41 am. For 4 nights in a row a data transmission ocurred at this exact time. Following are excerpts from my bill: Code...
View 22 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone, installed lagfix, and removed some bloatware from the phone via Titanium. The phone was stupid fast after doing this, almost everything loaded up instantly. However I started to notice some things weren't functioning properly. Apps on the marketplace would not download, I would try to download Launcher Pro and nothing would happen, nothing downloaded. Tried this with other apps, same thing. I rebooted the phone and noticed upon reboot that a force close/app error happened, not sure which app it was but it had google in it. I have no idea what app it could have been since I only removed apps if I knew what they were like Slacker, Kindle, Sims etc. Maybe removing the Sims caused the error?
I also noticed that emails wouldn't send (or would take a long time) even when I was on wifi. And the XDA app wouldn't work. I would go to make a post, click the text input box, but it wouldn't let me move the text cursor. I would press the keyboard and nothing happened.
I removed a crap ton of apps but they weren't anything major. I also removed the samsung widgets since I would never use those. Guess I should have asked on the forums before removing so much stuff.
Which apps are okay to remove? Any ideas on which app could have caused the market to mess up?
I've rooted my phone and used TitaniumBackup to remove the AT&T bloatware. I've also configured it for sideloading apps so I could load the SiriusXM app from their website. Of course - now I can't get the OTA update. I just get the error where it says it's downloading, restarts the phone, says it's installing then reboots the phone again and says the update failed.
Maybe the OTA update is trying to update one of the bloatware apps and that's why it's failing? Or would removing the Superuser app (unrooting) and Busybox be enough to get the update?
Either way - because I deleted the apps using TitaniumBackup I have no backup (I know, I'm an idiot). I thought I did a TB backup before removing the apps but I have no idea where to look to restore them. They aren't listed in the app list when I click on Backup/Restore.
I just installed appbrain, and it shows bloat like cityID and VZ navigator. It also shows an uninstall option as well. Theoretically, can you Sync with AppBrain, uninstall all that bloat, then perform installs again when you need restore the bloat (for when updating or anything)? Haven't tried this yet but just wanted to see if others have.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen custom roms come out for the Captivate will this be able to make it where it is bloatfree from AT&T and have custom things being able to add any apk app without doing the sideloading stuff ect? I am wondering if custom ROMs will make it where we can do whatever we want without AT&T restrictions.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo i removed alot of bloatware with Android Mate, but I didn't back up anything. Not that my phone doesn't behave, but is it possible to get all these apps back? Maybe get my phone back to factory state if I want to? No, I didn't make a backup file. I now, stupid of me. But if anyone else did, in theory shouldn't it be possible for me just to download that file and then "restore" the phone back to factory state?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, I have been successfully moving bloatware and other apps I don't use - from Verizon apps to Samsung Widgets. I use LauncherPro exclusively and according to this site, TouchWiz30Launcher.apk/odex can be removed safely, but he also mentions not to move Launcher.apk, which I don't see in my system folder. When I move it, the phone is operational, but keep getting a force close error for TouchWiz30Launcher.apk/odex. By moving it back with Root Explorer, it corrects the error immediately.I guess what I am asking is...is it possible to disable the 17MB file of TouchWiz if I am not using it, and if so, how.

After following the rooting process and installing Titanium Backup and the 1-Click Lag Fix. I decided to explore and I was actually able to remove some of the bloatware apps without being in recovery mode. After obtaining root ADB Shell (the shell with a # sign instead of a $) I basically did the following commands:

Simple question. Is there an app out there, that is NOT a battery hog, and keeps services off...OR is there a way to get rid of the bloatware on the SF WITHOUT rooting?
View 10 Replies View RelatedOk I figured out how to delete the ATT bloatware off the Captivate using Titanium Backup. But how do I reinstall it? I only deleted 'ATT Family Maps' for now until I can figure out how to reinstall things, incase I have a problem later and need to go back to ATT. I clicked 'backup' before i deleted it. But I don't know what buttons to press to get stuff back from the backup.

Check This Tool Out I Found! Android is Getting Convenient
Droid Explorer is a tool to manage your rooted android device with the simplicity of Windows Explorer. You can browse every file on your Android device, much like the infamous app "Root Explorer" does. I think this is very much so a handy tool for those that are in need of removing some software....like the bloatware that comes preintalled. Some of you may even want to add stuff, like Google Maps and so on. Try it out!!
I highly recommend standalone for Windows users.....

Brand new Samsung Galaxy Rugby from Rogers, rooted it and began removing bloatware via Titanium Backup. I backed up and uninstalled Samsung Home, then I uninstalled SNS 1.0 without backing up. One of these two are now causing my BRAND NEW phone to not boot up anymore. It just gets stuck at the Samsung loading screen.
I have gone into recovery mode and wiped data and factory reset, which will get me to the Android startup wizard, but after it's completed, it crashes and I get Android with no Home launcher. Completely unusable...
What can I do?! There doesn't seem to be any custom firmwares for this phone yet, so is there something generic I can use to put either stock Android on it or a custom ROM in place of this broken Samsung ROM?
I wish there was something I could do with the launcher backups in my TitaniumBackup folder on my SDcard. I *can* access that...
I got ballsy and since T-Mo is sending me a new phone since this one is Hardware locked and I can't get into ODIN, I opened up mini Kies and got the new firmware. All it did was re-install all the bloat I deleted before and got rid of root.
I don't know if this is universal or I got lucky, but it worked. It hung on the Galaxy S screen for about a minute, but after that it's awesome.
I see 12 Sats indoors and I connect to 7. Outside I see 13 and I connect to 11.
Vibrant is the best phone I've ever owned after this GPS update.
Rooted my replacement Vibrant but didn't wanna remove the bloatware right away in case future froyo required it. So, I tried just freezing the apps with Titanium. This makes sure they never start up when you turn your phone on and they are removed from the app drawer. You just unfreeze them whenever you want. Anyway, it makes the app drawer/homescreen scrolling a lot smoother.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHere I am with 2 HTC Hero phones, with only one on an active account. I would love to try out the Samsung Moment, but don't have the $$ to just go out and buy one.My hero comes with all it had when new, plus I have an extra battery for it I will add to the deal. This hero has only been used for about a week, and while using it, it "lived" in my Blackberry Tour holster to give it maximum protection. There are no scratches or rub marks on it, never been dropped and I have reset it to Factory Specs via the SECURITY MENU and the ESN is clear and ready to be activated on your SPRINT account. Please email me at sy@rayzel.com if you are interested. Maybe we can work out a swap. Now for the additional 1 to 2 feet of snow that is forecast for this afternoon and tomorrow, on top of the 2.5 feet still on the ground.

View 38 Replies View RelatedI currently own a Palm Pre and I'm ready to ditch it for an Android device. Don't get me wrong, webOS is clean and has a lot of potential, but for now...lacking would be a good (albeit understated) word to describe it. I want to jump the Pre ship for the Samsung Moment, but one thing I keep reading about the Moment is bothering me - everyone says it doesn't have multi-touch. However, I recently read that multi-touch is something Android doesn't yet support. This knowledge was previously unbeknownst to me since I haven't used an Android device since the G1 first launched. Since the Moment uses a standard Android build, the OS wouldn't allow multi-touch even if the phone were capable of it. So my question is: Does anyone know whether or not the Moment is capable of multi-touch? If it's simple a shortcoming of Android, I can deal with it since I know Android 2.0 should finally support it.

I called Sprint technical support and they're going to send a new (I hope it's new) phone. I hate to set up the phone for the third time. Is there a fix or should I just bite the bullet and get the new? phone? Has anyone had this problem?

I currently have a voice plan, with sprint, for my dying LG Musik and my father's Palm Centro and am seeking to replace my Musik with a Samsung Moment. I have an upgrade available on my account, however I don't want to get locked into a data plan, since I rarely spend any time away from Wifi.
Does anyone know if there is a way for me to use my upgrade to aquire the Moment without commiting to the data plan?
