Samsung Moment :: Way To Get International Service On Sprint Plan?
Jun 20, 2010About to be heading to south America for a while, does anyone have international service on their sprint plan? How much extra is it? It is cost per minute as well? What about text and data? Any hidden fees or things I should know about? I'd ask sprint but feel I'll get a much more honest answer here.

Dec 13, 2009I currently have a voice plan, with sprint, for my dying LG Musik and my father's Palm Centro and am seeking to replace my Musik with a Samsung Moment. I have an upgrade available on my account, however I don't want to get locked into a data plan, since I rarely spend any time away from Wifi.
Does anyone know if there is a way for me to use my upgrade to aquire the Moment without commiting to the data plan?
Samsung Moment :: Need To Have Device Self Service
Nov 25, 2009Trying the 'Device Self Service 1.1' app to update my PRL (prefered roaming list) before I head out on a trip. I expect the 'udpate firmware' option not to work, but the 'update profile' and 'update prl' do not work. When trying to run either, I get a 'no service' error, even though I have 4 bars.

Aug 8, 2010So when I bought this phone I was told GPS will work without service. I'm in Asia right now for 9 months and it doesn't. From my research, I think the problem is that agps does a call to verify that local service is available before it will kick the regular gps in. Forgive my crude tech speak, but I imagine there must be some sort of workaround. Is there any way to fake the phone into thinking it has a sprint service signal or is there a way to turn off agps? There must be some sort of hack I can do. I hope someone can give me something, this phone is an expensive brick here. And no, turning on airplane mode enabling wifi and gps location services don't help. I've tried every possible combination, I can't use the GPS without the phone verifying the sprint network."you need a network connection to get the api call to work. Once its running you don't need the network for it to keep running. A guy in the Droid forum told me that.
He says that if you turn your phone on in another country the api would not get some sort of response (license) from the network and the gps would not work"

Nov 5, 2009I just got the Moment and I like it so far, but for the love of God I can't figure out how to turn the sound off when my phone goes out of service. Where can I find this!?
I live in an area with poor cell service (I knew this and I hate talking on my phone) and just want the noise shut off. I don't need a stupid beep to tell me that it's outta service. It's driving me nuts.

Both have their pluses and negatives.However, something I hear in both forums is to save battery turn off GPS. If you do that how does "Emergency Location" and/or "E911" service work? Aren't those dependent on GPS?

Feb 23, 2010I got CL14 on the 19th after having my moment for a couple months they fixed the battery gauge! However, I got a new issue with CL14. I work at a job that is in a bomb proof area. I have always left my phone on in the area even though I usually get no service, sometimes one bar.
The reason I leave the phone on is because sometimes I am in there for 2 minutes, sometimes for 3 hours between breaks so with the long boot times it sucks turning on and off and and off (especially if I am only in there a minute). I also cant switch it off while I am in there since I would get in trouble for taking it out of my pocket.
Eveything had been fine until CL14, now when I go into that room with little service after about 1-2 hours the phone battery it totally dead. The phone is very hot to the touch as well. at first i though it was the screen was somehow on, but I have been checking it every few minutes and its not. Basically my hunch is something changed in the CPU usage when the phone is searching for service with the CL14 update that causes the battery to run out of juice (for real this time) very very fast. Any setting I can change? Most regular cells go into a "power save" mode when there is no service, the moment does not.
Cliff notes:
Cl05, battery gauge, but no problem for months at my work with no service.
CL14 installed now battery is being completely drained from full to shut down in 1-2 hours, in low/no service areas, phone getting very hot.

Jun 14, 2010I had a moment in the beginning and took it back,got a hero had massive problems and finally got my hero replaced with another moment that was brand new.I just got it like 2-3 days ago and its having the same issues that i had on 1.5 when i had it the first time.I had it replaced when i had it the first time and same issue.I have 2.1 now and the battery life is still horrible like dropping not long after taking it off the charger without using it but biggest problem is that the phone will tell me i have no service and it will have an x up above where the bars should be and i have to remove the battery and put it back in before it will work again.The data does the same thing and i can turn the phone off and back on for that and it will work again.Does this happen to anyone else??Its very frustrating!!Also the wifi wont connect.It just says it is unable to connect but it was just working and my laptop works wirelessly so i know that its not my router or anything with my connection.

Aug 12, 2010I got another phone and gave my wife the Behold 2 without data plan. I signed in using my SIM card, then put her SIM in and signed in. So we can dowload apps using wifi (or do I just THINK it's using wifi?) and she gets her gmail. But no apps access the web and can't browse the web.

*611 and CS immediately recognized what happened. I was never put on a data plan at the POS. It's as simple and complicated as that. $340 in data charges. She put me on the $30 unlimited data and credited me the data charges minus the $30 I would've paid this billing cycle.
No big deal except the long wait time over the phone and for some reason it took her another five minutes to do whatever was needed to fix it. Also, it has to be "cleared" first because "of the size of the credit". She'll call me back Sunday(she's off Friday and Saturday... good for her) after 1pm to confirm and tell me it went through.

I knew the GPS was problematic on the Galaxy S when I bought it, but I didn't really foresee much GPS use. I'm curious to play with it, but don't know how much I'll actually need it.Am I right in assuming that the basic GPS is separate from 3G in that I can use it to find my location? I understand that overlaying my location on Google Maps needs 3G (unless I'm using WiFi). However, is it also possible to overlay my location on off-line, cached maps like those in MapDroyd and Maps (-)?Also, what privileges/settings do I need for the GPS to communicate with these maps and show my location?

Aug 12, 2010So I was about to pick up a Captivate today until I spoke with the sales rep about my data plan. I am still using the 1st gen iPhone with the unlimited edge plan. He told me that there was no way for me to use the Captivate with the old plan unless I upgrade to the new ones.
I remember reading online awhile back that used the upgrade path from the 1st iPhone to any of the 3g iPhones, which makes it sound like he is BS'ing. I don't know if it still holds true for the Captivate though.

I would love to try out the Samsung Moment, but don't have the $$ to just go out and buy one.My hero comes with all it had when new, plus I have an extra battery for it I will add to the deal. This hero has only been used for about a week, and while using it, it "lived" in my Blackberry Tour holster to give it maximum protection. Aug 19, 2010Well, right now, I have an iPhone 2G with a 20 dollar data plan that also includes 200 texts. It's part of a family plan, and I'm probably going to go Samsung Captivate or iPhone 4 in a few days. My questions include
1. Can I just use the 20 dollar data plan for the iPhone with that phone, like, without them knowing? Any serious consequences involved with it?
2. Similar to the first question, can I just use the non-smartphone data plan, which is 15 bucks a month, and use that with the Captivate? Would they know which phone is using it?
3. Once I switch to limited data, like 200 MB or 2 GB, can I switch back to unlimited?
I don't pay my own bills, parents do, but don't want to put on an extra 10 or 15 dollars a month right now, just for data, when I could just continue using whatever I'm using.

Jun 24, 2010I've got no data plan from t-mobile and despite this have been able to access gmail via the gmail app through 3G.Yesterday I was forced to preform a hard reset (volume down+call+end call).After the reset I connected to my Wifi and logged into the Google Network as I did when I initially got my phone.I've found that I can access everything as before including Weather Channel App, My T-Mobile, as well as Sync Calender via 3G, but whenever I try to Sync or Refresh Gmail or Contacts it fails to connect.
