Samsung Moment :: Are There Any Cables For Tv Out?
Aug 6, 2010
Are there any cables for tv out on the Samsung Moment? Does the moment support these cables? I want to display the home screen and browse the Internet and play emulators on my tv with the moment if possible.

So I had several micro-USB sitting around from monoprice (I ordered the wrong cables a year ago, and they happened to be micro at $1 a pop I wasn't so concerned with sending them back) and after shaving the tops down a bit with a dremel (so I could still slide the kb open) I tried them out. I can charge with a wall-to-USB charging base or with the cable plugged into my PC, but I can't use them for any sort of data sync apparently. I'm really wondering if I'm just suffering from badly made cheap cables, or if there's something actually different between these and the cable that came with the phone. Anyone have any idea? Has anyone been using micro USB cables that they found for a good deal online?

Is it just me, or has anyone noticed that if you use any other USB cable aside from the one provided, that your Captivate only charges up to 50%? I tried using the sync cable from my old Nokia (which is that same USB A type to mini B like the Captivate), plugged into the Samsung wall charger, and even after a full night of being on the charger, the battery indicator was only at 50%! What's the deal with that!? The other thing to note is that, when I use the Samsung cable and the Samsung charger, it just charges, like what you'd expect. But if I say, use my Samsung charger, and the USB cable instead, it prompts me with the same question you get as if plugging into a PC (Mass Storage, Kies, Media player, etc.)What's going on re?

know there are tutorials on the root process with the "one-click" root, and some using your pc and USB drivers, This is the EASIEST way I think, and I just did it, so i know it works.I was at work today and I wanted to root my Captivate. All I have is my work pc, and my Captivate. No USB cables or anything. I had one powerful tool though. the Internet. You will need these 2 apps: Linda File Manager and Dropbox. Free in the Market.Go to Dropbox - Home - Online backup, file sync and sharing made easy. and download that to your computer. Sign up for it, it is cloud based file sharing. It's awesome, I use it every day. Already a user, great. On your pc, go download the root update file here: SGH-I897 Root Update.zip - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage Rename it to update.zipOpen up your dropbox and put it in the "public" folder. Now on your Captivate, open up dropbox and sign in.Open the public folder and tap the file "update.zip" to download it.Now open up Linda file manager.Tap "SD card", open the folder "dropbox". open "public", then tap and hold "update.zip". Choose CUT.Now just hit the back button all the way back to the SD card.Tap the menu button, tap EDIT, then tap Paste.Close all apps.Turn the phone off.Now just boot in to recovery.Hold down both Volume buttons at the same time. While holding those 2 buttons, hold the power button down.ONCE THE WHITE AT&T SCREEN POPS UP, RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON, BUT KEEP HOLDING THE VOLUME BUTTONS UNTIL THE RECOVERY SCREEN SHOWS UP. (You'll know it when you see it)You will now see the recovery screen.Use the volume keys to scroll down to "reinstall packages", hit the power button to select it.Let it do it's thing.BAM. 1-2 minutes later, your phone is rebooted and you now have superuser in the app drawer. This seems a little lengthy, but if you are already a dropbox user, it will go by fast.I rooted my Captivate in less than 5 minutes.

Here I am with 2 HTC Hero phones, with only one on an active account. I would love to try out the Samsung Moment, but don't have the $$ to just go out and buy one.My hero comes with all it had when new, plus I have an extra battery for it I will add to the deal. This hero has only been used for about a week, and while using it, it "lived" in my Blackberry Tour holster to give it maximum protection. There are no scratches or rub marks on it, never been dropped and I have reset it to Factory Specs via the SECURITY MENU and the ESN is clear and ready to be activated on your SPRINT account. Please email me at sy@rayzel.com if you are interested. Maybe we can work out a swap. Now for the additional 1 to 2 feet of snow that is forecast for this afternoon and tomorrow, on top of the 2.5 feet still on the ground.

Recently on Sprint's Moment forum a member by the name Mkeng5 has been posting pretty vocal complaints about the Samsung Moment. Not only does he claim the Moment is defective, but he goes a step further and even cites Samsung's own Warranty Policy.

I currently own a Palm Pre and I'm ready to ditch it for an Android device. Don't get me wrong, webOS is clean and has a lot of potential, but for now...lacking would be a good (albeit understated) word to describe it. I want to jump the Pre ship for the Samsung Moment, but one thing I keep reading about the Moment is bothering me - everyone says it doesn't have multi-touch. However, I recently read that multi-touch is something Android doesn't yet support. This knowledge was previously unbeknownst to me since I haven't used an Android device since the G1 first launched. Since the Moment uses a standard Android build, the OS wouldn't allow multi-touch even if the phone were capable of it. So my question is: Does anyone know whether or not the Moment is capable of multi-touch? If it's simple a shortcoming of Android, I can deal with it since I know Android 2.0 should finally support it.

This is similar although not identical to some other threads.I bought a cheap (Nokia) USB cable to use at work. It seemed not to be charging the phone very quickly. Today I did some tests. It does charge the phone from my work PC but not nearly as fast as the HTC supplied cable.Generally, if I leave the phone plugged in but do some browsing on and off during the day, at the end of the day the phone is pretty much where it was, battery-wise, at the start. With the HTC cable, it charges pretty quickly (i.e a couple of hours). The data transfer rate is the same with both cables. Is there a sure way of knowing what cable to buy to get the same performance? (Short of buying an HTC cable

I left the USB cable that came with my phone at the office, so i decided to try and use a generic cable that i had lying around to transfer files from my computer to my phone (with the help of a micro USB adaptor). However, when plugged up to my computer, it only charges the phone but does not give me the option to mount the SD card as it does when i use the Motorola cable. The generic cable i have came with my external hard drive, and i've been able to use it to transfer files to multiple devices with no problems. I thought all USB cables were pretty much the same, so did Motorola put something like a chip in the cable to get people to buy OEM?

Or is my Desire faulty?Hi, had my Desire about a week now and absolutely loving it.I bought a couple of spare USB cables from eBay (they were listed as being suitable for the Desire fwiw) - mainly for charging - but why I plug the Desire into my laptop with them I get Device not Recognized - even before I've selected the connectivity option on the Desire. It works OK with the HTC cable and a cable that came with my Jabra headset. The eBay cables seem to recognise an old Nokia 6300. So, as suggested in this thread, are all cables not created equal and the eBay cables of insufficient quality for the Desire or is the Desire faulty?

I tried several retractable micro usb cables that didn't quote work for me; some of them did data and no charge, while some charged but didn't do data.I found these cables on ebay and bought 5 of them. Finally, a cheap retractable cable that charges reliably (even from AC outlet) despite being thin and flexible. Data works perfectly too.As a note, I have no affiliation with the seller - in fact, I think that multiple sellers are selling the identical generic cable under several labels so you might be able to get it cheaper.USB A to Micro B Retractable Cable For LG Rumor Touch - eBay These are great because they are so much smaller than normal cables when retracted - I keep one in my car, laptop bag, plugged into a few AC chargers, etc. My only gripe is that I wish they were a bit longer (they are only maybe 2.5ft long) but I can live with that since it actually charges the phone properly.

I purchased some additional microUSB cables for use with my Droid at work and home so I'm not carrying one around all the time. I've found that the third party cables will not charge the Droid when plugged into the AC plug. The cable supplied by Motorola works fine, so I know it's not the AC plug. The cables do work as data connections when plugged into my laptop. Did I just buy crappy cables, or is there something special about the Moto cable?

I've already done the update but both pre and post update, my Moment intermittently won't respond when getting a call. The call comes in, I hear the ringtone but no matter what buttons I press, the phone won't respond. I have to wait until voicemail kicks in or the call has ended.
I called Sprint technical support and they're going to send a new (I hope it's new) phone. I hate to set up the phone for the third time. Is there a fix or should I just bite the bullet and get the new? phone? Has anyone had this problem?
What experiences have you had with replacement phones from Sprint?
Should I be worried about getting a lemon phone?

I currently have a voice plan, with sprint, for my dying LG Musik and my father's Palm Centro and am seeking to replace my Musik with a Samsung Moment. I have an upgrade available on my account, however I don't want to get locked into a data plan, since I rarely spend any time away from Wifi.
Does anyone know if there is a way for me to use my upgrade to aquire the Moment without commiting to the data plan?

Hopefully i'm not asking anything obvious here.Basically I worked out that my HTC cable which came with my handset charges a lot quicker than the ebay ones I bought. I did some testing and initially I thought the spare 1000mA adaptor I bought was at fault. I only got about 6% charge per 30 mins. But then I tried the same adaptor with my HTC cable, and it gave me 15% in 30 mins.So I want to buy a spare cable, but I don't know how to tell the difference. Anyone able to explain, or direct me to a cable?

Can i use my ipod charger plug, with one of my many spare usb-mini usb cables i have for many gadgets (ie cameras/camcorders), to charge my desire? or is the ipod plug rated to push through a different numbers of amps/volts/currants/electrons/whatever to my desire, ultimately killing it? this will save me and probably a lot of other folk a few quids in buying spare chargers etc, as i am sure we've all got a spare mini-usb cable and an ipod lying around. i am talking about this part, or one of these for car charging.

You know..after buy the $30.00 car adapter..and having to shelf my Blackberry USB MINI charger.. I wondered if an adapter existed that would convert it..and sure enough I found one model on EBAY for like $.99 cents each with free shipping..so I bought 5 of them...
So in case it sickens you to put up the big bucks you may want to go this route...and reuse your Mini chargers and cables...

Is there anyway of making the Moment a wireless tether for internee?

Most every other "issue" to this phone has been a non-issue for me to this point. However, the one feature Samsung really screwed us on is the voice capabilities of the phone.I think they are tied to the Nuance system and therefore unusable by other apps like google voice search and where.I hope samsung or sprint writes a live search app for this phone.I bought the phone with the expectations of this phone being capable of voice commands without being limited by nuance.

I know nothing about rooting phones, so i thought Id ask here. Im in the process of choosing between the moment and the hero, and I cant decide. The biggest concern I have is how fast will the Moment be rooted. Its sounding like they are close with the Hero, and once that is done will that make it easier for someone to figure out how to root the moment? Or is it like starting from scratch from phone to phone? Im also a bit concerned that no one at XDA will be helping with the process since the moment is not an HTC phone. I had a Treo800 when it first cameout, and it seemed like it took FOREVER for roms to make it way to that device. Any thoughts?

I am a Sprint customer looking for an Android phone for basic functions. I am trying to choose between the Hero and the Moment. I have 1 of each right now from Sprint, on the 30 day trial. Here are the challenges I find with each. Does anyone know of any fixes for these?
Hero
1) Phone hangs up during calls because of lack of proximity sensor
2) Speaker phone wont turn off once activated, unless I end the call
3) Vibration mode is very weak and basically useless. Cant feel it in my pocket
4) Sprint Navigation does not work
Moment
1) Battery runs out before end of day
2) Bluetooth is spotty and wont always connect
3) Web navigation not as smooth as Hero.
