Relatively new to android so please bare with, A few weeks after purchasing i had to uhh update firmware etc etc ..which basically removed all apps/games i had previously purchased/installed off of the market .. Id just like to know if the new update's going to do the same .. not real keen on losing a great deal of paid apps

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm pretty new to the android forum so please bare with me. I've got the DHD and I love it. But the only issue I have is these pre-installed apps such as; facebook, twitter and peep.
First of all why do i need twitter AND peep? I want to get rid of the latter and i've heard that I need to root my phone to do that. Can someone point me to a newbs step by step to rooting the DHD if such a thing exists please?
Secondly, the pre-installed apps don't have the option of updating! So as far as I can see I have to actually download these apps again from the market and then update them when they come.
Is there any way to delete the factory installed DEMO games? Can you believe you can play them just once, yet they stay there forever? What was SE thinking? CA Gold Rust and Roller Coaster.

Surprise surprise, it doesn't appear that I have this option on ANY of the 15 or so apps I've downloaded.I've read that developers need to unlock this option when they create their app - I guess most of the apps available today just don't support it? The built in gmail is crap...if I send mail from gmail webpage I have no. problem, but if I send it from the phone I get errors or the mail floats off into space, who knows where it goes. Is there a way to un-install all this junk, there are at least 10-15 applications on this phone I have absolutely no use for and just eat up battery and ram? Update, was reading some other forums and I guess you can't really, or you have to hack the crap out of your phone...to bad I guess, they should make an Android lite version, I don't need Facebook, Twitter, nfl, stocks, nascar, or another half a dozen apps that came with the phone.

Not much seems to be different, I am still having lag time from loading up my icons when I go back to home which was originally my main problem with the update. I have so far just downloaded Rom Manager, Wireless Tether, and Set CPU which is set at 600 mhz Max and 125 Mhz, is that alright? My last question is how do I delete the pre installed apps? A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.
Alright so I just downloaded the Froyo OTA update.I don't want to do anything too crazy with my phone, however there are a couple of things I would like to change.
1. Delete HTC lock screen, I read if you delete the htclockscreen.apk it will just use the standard "vanilla" froyo one
2. Delete all of the bloatware apps (Sprint Nav, TV, Zone, Nascar, Football, etc)
3. Wifi Tether
Will I be able to do this with just root or do I need a custom ROM? I have read through XDA and on here but I am in over my head. I'm used to jailbreaking iPhones in one step or just installing Preware.I really don't want to have to reset my phone since I have finally got it set up and looking the way I like.Can someone point me in the direction of what I need to do (unrevoked?) to enable the three things I listed? Because I am lost with rooting and unlocking nand and custom ROMs and kernels.Is it even possible to root the OTA right now, or do I need to wait?
Before I updated my Galaxy S4 I had the option to hide apps. I hided a lot of apps that I didn't used like for example: internet, story album, TripAdvisor, S Planner etc.
Now I want to see my apps. I couldn't find them. I did some research and they told me to do this: apps, menu, uninstall/disable apps. It worked for me for some apps but not for all of them. I couldn't get for example S Planner, Internet etc. back. How can I get ALL of my (hidden) apps back?
I just recently purchased a Samsung Vibrant and started to play with it. I downloaded all the necessary drivers and I rooted it using a method I found online here with success. After playing for a few days, I decided I'd take on the task of updating to Froyo.

It's running smooth and I've not had any problems My question is, what is the difference between my existing version and the 'offical' Froyo 2.2 that will be released soon? Would I be able to update my firmware to the newer version since I'm already on 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6)?

I live in Indonesia, bought the phone from a gadgets store. The phone is unlocked/sim free/unbranded.
The original firmware code (dial *#1234#):
PDA: I9000DXJF4
Phone: Unknown <-- what the ?
CSC: I9000OLBJF4
And this is what I've done:
Downloading and installing Kies from Australia instead of Indonesia. The version number is higher 1.5.1.10083. The important 64-bit drivers already included. Installed smoothly on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, but had driver problem in Windows Vista Home 32-bit. I don't bother to try to reinstall Kies in Vista again though, so I don't know if this version is really not working in Vista 32-bit.
Press/dial *#272*HhMm# (Hh and Mm is hour and minute in 24H format, 2 digits) then select the code from the list equal to "Sales Code" at the top, which is XSE (Indonesia), and press Install. Warning, this step will erase the internal SD card. Make backup first if you must. Android then began to installing "something".
After the installation from step two is completed, the phone will reboot itself. To make sure that everything is still working (no more downloaded Applications or Contacts though, everything was wiped out), I did reboot the phone once again. The phone works normally. But my phone type was still "Unknown" at this point.
Without changing any setting in the phone and Kies, I connect the USB to the phone, Kies fired up automatically, and voila! My phone was detected, and Kies also gave me a notification that a new firmware is available (I9000DXJG4). So, I downloaded and applied the firmware.
New firmware installed successfully. Works better and faster/smoother than DXJF4. GPS is much better now. Love it.
Dial *#1234# gives me this now:
PDA: I9000DXJG4
Phone: I9000DXJG4 <-- yay!
CSC: I9000OLBJG4
In this firmware, Samsung also includes an application/widget called "Task Manager", which is pretty much like those "Task Killer" apps in the market.
And now, The Buts!
YouTube (APK) is not working. In JF4 it worked well.
Android Market now can't download every item I selected, but it can show the list normally. I did login successfully using my Google account.
Samsung Kies detected the phone but now giving me this warning "The SIM card is not inserted, can't continue communication". The SIM card is inside the phone!
Samsung Kies really gives me a headache, literally. Old problems fixed, new problems arise. Anyone knows how to solve that three problems? Please?
Or, should I redo the *#272*HhMm# procedure once again after installing the new firmware?
I have installed LauncherPro Plus on my Galaxy. It has been deactivated. Can someone tell me if there is a screen that lets you choose between LauncherPro and TouchWiz. I want to reactivate it again. As well, will beautiful widgets only work with LauncherPro Plus. I am specifically interested in the weather application. I can't seem to get it running after it was dragged to the bottom of the phone and deleted.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is an android problem, or a samsung i9000 problem, but either way it's an annoying problem that I'd love to find a solution for ?_? I simply cant get the alarm to work for me (overnight. it's fine in the very short term). It appears to be because the clock stops moving/updating when the phone goes to sleep, because when I turn the screen back on I can see that the time is off by multiple hours, depending upon when it stopped updating, and stays that way for a couple of seconds before changing to the correct time.
Things to note here..
I do NOT use a task killer
The alarm volume is up
I have tried the alarm both with and without the Automatic, network provided time setting. The clock still stops moving. I've not updated anything from the standard (UK) firmware
