Samsung Galaxy S :: Protection EU Version - Vibrant US Version
Jul 12, 2010I am having my Galaxy S delivered tomorrow and was wondering what protection people are using. I was going to use some sort of film protector, such as Zagg invisible shield and a Flip Case. But the only flip case I can find for the Galaxy S looks horrid, and I am not sure on the texture of Zagg Invisible Shields.I have also considered silicone gel cases, but I am having trouble finding one that is nice, and pouches in combo with a screen protector.What would you use and if I did buy a screen protector, which brand should it be, I want one that will protect but with minimum difference to the feel or colour of the screen.

Nov 10, 2010I'm considering getting a screen protector, but I'm also wondering how much it'll affect sensitivity/responsiveness. If I do get something to protect my phone, what is the best material/brand/manufacturer to go with? Or perhaps just a leather case would be enough? That way the screen stays perfect and it's still protected when I'm not using it.
After all, I heard the screen quality is pretty good. It's glass, or am I thinking of a different phone? It might not be a "Gorilla" screen like the Samsung Galaxy, but I've heard it's pretty resilient. I think it should be ok with just a leather case, unless anyone here's already got some bad experiences with the screen?

Sep 18, 2010I have the screen timeout set to 1 min which works fine until I use the phone. When using the phone the screen times out (and locks) in about 5 seconds. This is a real pain when using voicemail etc and you need to interact with the keypad.

Aug 3, 2010At certain angles under strong lighting (basically when light is shining onto, but not reflected back off the screen) I can see a line that looks like it might be the edge of a circuit board behind my screen (when the display is off). Initially I thought it was a scratch, but on closer inspection, it's too thick a line, and much too precise and engineered looking to be one.
It's sorta this shape and runs across behind the screen, about 2/3 of the way up:
Has anyone else noticed this? Tis rather odd.

Oct 26, 2010After reading about the android not needing a task killer, since its linux based and it could make it worse, I got rid of it. Would this be true for security apps, such as firewalls and virus protection, are the really needed I could understand the one that helps find your phone. I have lookout installed and it says it does a virus check after an app is installed.

Aug 6, 2010I have a strange problem with Galaxy S, can somebody please check if they do experience the same thing.
My battery is low (about 13%), I'm connecting SGS through WiFi to the Interent. Any time the device is downloading something: web page, image from Picasa, etc. on the screen appears flickering tiny lines, like magnitic distortion. Once page fully loaded screen become nice and clear. If I plug power, USB, the screen and download happens normally. I tried different setting (brightness of screen, vibration on/off, stay away from electronic devices)

Sep 2, 2010We tried to root it and apply the lag fix via "OneClickLagFix" app (from the Market), and the phone was very fast for about a week, then slowed down SIGNIFICANTLY. Tonight, it just froze and will not boot past the Galaxy S screen. The screen will then go black and the four buttons at the bottom stay lit. We have gone into recovery and wiped the cache but no luck. Have not yet tried to wipe user data.
Transfer all data from internal storage to a separate drive, then wipe phone? If so, will I have to "flash" a stock/custom ROM to get the phone back up?

Sep 12, 2010I have a Galaxy S (GT-I9000M) which doesn't boot past the start-up splash screen and sound effect. Eventually it will just switch to a black/blank screen and do nothing more. The back and menu buttons still light up if tapped.
The history how I got it this way, was I was using the app web-sharing lite to transfer some files through wifi without the need of a usb cable. I was transferring a large movie file when the phone locked up. I reset the phone, and upon boot every app and service was crashing. Tried this a few times, then pulled the battery etc, still the same. Then I booted into recovery mode(vol up+home+pwr), and applied wipe data/factory reset, then rebooted. This is when it started to only boot into the black screen.
This is a Canadian phone, service/bought through bell, the phone had the one click root applied to it so TI Backup could run on the device. So I think I'm out of luck with any warranty service.
I can get into the phones recovery mode and download mode, so I think there is still hope for this phone to be recovered. What I don't know is what firmware version Bell ships with these devices, and where I can download it?

Jul 15, 2010Every time the screen blanks after timeout it locks the phone - this is inconvenient because every time I pick the phone up to use I have to unlock it. is there any way to stop this - I would prefer it to never lock unless I use the power/lock button.

Oct 5, 2010I have layout issues in my application on Samsung Galaxy Tab. It has a 7" TFT display with 1024x600 resolution.
Galaxy Tab prefers images in "res/drawable-hdpi" to the ones in "res/ drawable". That is understandable. However resources in "res/layout" are used instead of the ones in "res/ layout-large". Does it have a logical explanation? Or what am I doing wrong?

Samsung Galaxy S :: Black Screen After Installing ADW.Launcher
Aug 15, 2010I installed ADW.Launcher today on my Galaxy S, and have ended up with a black screen. I'd like to fix it without a factory reset, if possible.Galaxy S, Android 2.1, bought in Singapore, SingTel settings but bought it unlocked. Currently in Indonesia. (Can't look up Baseband Version, Kernel Version and Build Number on the phone now for obvious reasons.)A short while after installing ADW.Launcher, the Home button became unresponsive, and a minute or two later the phone restarted itself (the way it's done by itself a handful of times since I bought the phone - without going through the whole power down and power up sequences of sounds and graphics). Then I only had a black screen with date and time at the bottom, and the menu and back buttons lit up, and now I can't get the display back. It seems to start normally, with the logos and sounds, but just returns to that black screen with date and time.
I know something's going on inside because I can swipe to unlock the screen (giving me a purely black screen). If I then press and hold Home, I get the haptic vibration that normally goes with the "recently used" menu. But if I randomly tap all over the black screen, and try to use the menu and back buttons (guessing where the menu items are) I get no response, and no haptic vibration.Holding down the power button gives me the usual power menu - I can select "Power off," but it restarts. I've removed the battery a couple of times, waited and replaced it - but no change.
At first I thought it was related to my SIM card, as it did the self-restart thing yesterday about 20 min after I got a new SIM card. But doing a google search suggests that this problem is sometimes related to launchers. And I removed the SIM card and restarted (removing battery) and it didn't help.The closest I could find to an answer to this problem was in the Droid X forum: HELP! I uninstalled launcher pro, and now have a black screen! - The solution there was to do a factory reset. I'd really rather not do that, but may not have a choice.

Nov 25, 2010I am a samsung galaxy s user, and have been for a few months, obviously at first i had it as android 2.1, it was brilliant i had nothing to complain about. The other night i updated to 2.2, i think it was that i cant be sure, but, ever since this my phone has just been constant lag, and to be fair i havent noticed any real change except for that, for instance if i recieve a message, my phones unlock screen becomes a lot of puzzle pieces and i have to drag one puzzle piece to a gap, this has become near impossible to do it smoothly, its ridiculous. closing any apps is a nightmare and typing anything is the worse, have i done something wrong? or am i not the only one this is happening to, because my dad has the same phone he updated it just before me and its working fine.

Nov 11, 2010I purchased my phone in October 2010 from Bangalore, India ... After a week of use a white line developed on the display...
I took it to the service centre who said that it was a display defect and agreed to replace the screen ... But they said that the screen was out of stock ...
After waiting almost a month i got a call from them saying replacement screens have arrived ... I immediately went and got the screen changed ... After receiving the phone back i noticed that the screen seemed kinda dull with a brown tint to it at minimum brigtness ....
When i asked the service centre guy he asked me to use the phone for a while and then it will be fine ... I used the phone for two days and took it back after reading several such tint issues on the web ...
Initially the service centre guys refused to change the screen saying that its normal. Luckily for me another customer came in with a galaxy s. I used his phone and showed the technician the brown tint issue. He then agreed to the fact that there was a brown tint and replaced the screen once again...
The new screen also has the same issue ... I had no other option but to take it and leave ...
The whole fun of buying a great phone has been ruined by the technical issues and poor customer service ....
