Samsung Galaxy S :: Faulty Magnetic Sensor

Jul 9, 2010

I have both the Spica and the S side by side. When I tested their compasses, they're pointing in different directions.

I pressed *#0*#. There's nothing unusual on the Spica. The S' Magnetic Sensor Test Self Test says "PASS". However, under sensor, under MAGNETIC Sensor, it says "Need for calibration #". The # fluctuates from 0 to 3 (0, 1, 2, and 3). What does this mean? It says "Need for calibration" but I don't see any options to calibrate the magnetic sensor.

I've already tried the #8 motion in different axes & it didn't fix anything. Is this normal? Is the S supposed to say "Need for calibration" under the MAGNETIC Sensor section?

General :: Samsung Galaxy S2 Faulty Camera Software

Jun 30, 2013

The camera on my Samsung Galaxy SII has been faulty for a long time now. I was hoping that upgrading to Android 4.1 would re-install the firmware for the camera but this wasn't the case.

As you can see from the attached screen shots, the camera will fail on opening. On some very rare occasions, I'd be able to open the camera, snap a picture, before it would crash. This shows that it is not the hardware that is faulty, but the firmware instead. Usually on these occasions, the screen will display what the camera is pointing at (as it should) before glitching, showing vividly coloured lines and patches instead, before crashing. On top of this, any flashlight apps that utilise the flash of the camera will function for a short time before they too crash.

Since updating to 4.1, I can open the camera but it will just hang, there won't be an image on screen, just black, and there are also no error messages. I then cannot back out of the camera, without using the home button and closing it in the task manager (with a great delay between pressing the home button and the camera actually minimising).

I was hoping that there is a firmware fix for this, as I don't want to have to go and buy a new phone for merely faulty hardware, when the camera itself is fully functional.

General :: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi - Override Sensor

Dec 22, 2011

I have a project where I want to create my own custom sensor to be used with my Android device. Im hoping on using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi but I can get hold of basically any available tablet if that makes solving the problem easier. The solution is just for me so it can be heavy modifications to the Android OS if needed (preferable not though...)

The custom sensor is going to be connected with the device using bluetooth. I have currently a setup with my sensor connecting nicely and sending the values into my custom Android app but it is just my app and not any app on the device. I want to take it to the next level by basically overriding some of the built in sensors with my values to enable me to play any game that is meant to be controlled by the accelerometer my custom sensor.

How to change on a system level the constant variable SENSOR_TYPE to a public variable which I then can either override or change permanently to point to my sensor function instead. As I understand this it would need a fully custom ROM. So when any game call for example

mAccelerometer = mSensorManager.getDefaultSensor(Sensor.TYPE_ACCELE ROMETER);

Sensor.TYPE_ACCELEROMETER would point to my custom function instead.

But as I said this would need a custom ROM which sounds a bit large task...

Android :: No Light Sensor / Proximity Sensor Detected On Hero?

Feb 8, 2010

I have a HTC Hero here, and when I tried to get the list of available sensors on the device by calling ((SensorManager) getSystemService (Context.SENSOR_SERVICE)) .getSensorList(Sensor.TYPE_ALL); I get only the following sensors: D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: BMA150 3-axis Accelerometer, handle=0 D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: AK8973 3-axis Magnetic field sensor, handle=1 D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: AK8973 Orientation sensor, handle=2 D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: AK8973 Temperature sensor, handle=3 According to the specs, there should be a light and a proximity sensor on the Hero, and I've seen it in action (the automatic screen brightness adjustment) - so at least the ambient light sensor is definitely there. My question is then, why doesn't the getSensorList return for me the light and the proximity sensors?

HTC Droid Eris :: My Home Sensor Is Not As Responsive As My Back Sensor

However the back icon works 99% of the time on the first press. IS there any adjustment I can make or should I bring the phone back. I have had it now for 2 weeks.

HTC Desire :: Point Blank Won't Work - GPS - Broken / Faulty?

Nov 1, 2010

the GPS on my Desire is shocking - it point-blank won't work if there's ANYTHING over my head, so useless in cars/trains/buses, and if i'm out on the street it'll either not work at all or take upwards of 2 minutes to lock a signal. was chatting to a friend about it this weekend, and he whipped out his nexus one and had a locked signal within seconds of opening google maps, whereas mine still refused to budge. have i got a duff handset, or are other people finding this an issue? i'm on Orange, although i'm presuming that GPS isn't reliant on the carrier...

Nexus :: Faulty Speakerphone - Could Hear Person - But Other Side Not

Feb 11, 2010

After a couple attempts, I just decided the N1 speakerphone was garbage. I could hear the other person fine, but they said it was very difficult to understand me. I made a recording on my voicemail, using speakerphone, and it is indeed very difficult to understand. It's a garbled/underwater type of thing.

For a couple weeks, I assumed it was just that the phone was designed poorly. But my friend got an N1, so we did some comparisons. His speakerphone sounds fine (not a Nokia, but way better than my N1).

So I'm returning it to HTC for a swap.

This is just a heads-up to people who maybe don't use the speakerphone (those who do, already know if they have a bad one or not). If you think you might someday sell the phone, you probably want all of its features working correctly, and may want to consider RMA.

Samsung I7500 :: Proximity Sensor Not Work Always While Making Calls

Dec 25, 2009

I have not seen this mentioned but I have trouble with it every day. When I make a call the proximity sensor does not always work. During the call my cheek will pull up the keypad and then start dialing. Sometimes this will happen even if I remember to hit the sleep/wake button as I start the call (to turn off the screen). Very embarrassing to explain to the other party why your phone is touch-toning over their conversation. Does this happen to everyone or just me? It did it with the I4 and now the K4 firmware.

Motorola Milestone :: Magnetic Triggers

Oct 3, 2010

I've looked around and have noticed a number of complaints, but I haven't found any solutions, so I beg of your advanced knowledge and expertise... would anyone be able to help me?

I own a motorola milestone, and I love it to pieces. However, I am finding that the leather case I have has a magnetic clasp which triggers the phone to enter into multimedia mode. This is very annoying, as I never plan to use this mode so I was wondering one of two things.

1. am I able to reassign the magnetic trigger from "open multimedia dock app" to "enter standby". Considering I just rooted the phone, i would imagine that I have the priveledges to do so, but I'm unaware of what level that control would be on and if I could manipulate it without bricking the phone.

2. am I able to completely remove this app? so that the magnetic trigger just does nothing?

Android :: Getting Magnetic Field Results As Degrees

Dec 12, 2009

I'm working on an application that will randomly point an arrow in a direction, and have that arrow maintain it's direction if the device is moved. All I want to do it get the magnetic field readings as degrees and I can do it from there. The problem I'm having is getting the magnetic field readings. I can't find any tutorials on it and the API demo on google's dev site uses deprecated code (figures, google's sample code is never n00b friendly).

At this point I've got this together but I don't know what I'm missing, all the examples I can find are using SensorListener which has onSensorChanged(int sensor, float[] values) but SensorEventListener does not support "float[] values"

Motorola Droid :: Wallet With Magnetic Clip

Dec 17, 2009

I may be purchasing a Droid soon. One thing that worries me a little is the GPS/Dock function that "activates" when you dock it in the media or car dock. From what I understand this triggers due to magnets that the Droid senses.

I use a leather money clip that holds like 10 cards then has a clip with a magnet in it to hold bills. (See picture).

My concern is that if I keep the Dtoid in my right pocket with my wallet it's going to activate and start draining the battery like crazy. As the phone would be too big to fit in the small "change" pocket on jeans that I used to use for my LG Voyager and previous phones it has me a little worried how I'm going to tote it around. I may buy one of those glasses cleaning clothes and wrap it in that, but the magnetic portion could still be an issue.
