Why has my Galaxy started popping up the word choice box every time I enter a single character. It has only just started doing this, so I have obviously managed to change something, but no idea what??

hi friends i am a 16 yr old boy hunting for a new phone(a smartphone at that).i have shortlisted the samsung galaxy s and the htc desire.please help me out.
P.S.-this phone must serve me good for at least 4 years as in my country there's no subsidy offered by service providers on smartphones with locking,plans etc.so i must get my money's worth.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S and i have accidentaly set my Default sms to my normal sms but i want it to go back to asking me which one i would like to choose...
How can i un-Default my choice of sms?
Trying slideit and love the horizontal word suggestions compared to vertical weird choice of swype but:
1) do I really have to hit shift then question mark or exclamation mark each time to punctuate?
2) if I write a word, then put in a numerical, there is no space
3) if I want to go back and as a letter to am already formed word, there is always a space put in automatically, impossible to change a word like dog into dogs, comes out like dog s
4) contacts not in slide it dictionary
Very possible its my inexperience, live swype, hate the venice distracting word suggestion
Having a few software issues with my new SGS.
I would like to transfer some MS Office 2007 files on to the phone. I appreciate that ThinkFree Office should be able to allow access and edit the documents. As you will see in another thread I am having difficulties with Kies so thought the simpilest way would simply to email myself the .xls document for ThinkFree Office.
However, attachments simply open in code form, there is no option to download them in .xls format to the phone, so that ThinkFree can then open them and decode it.
Just getting started with my samsung droid. Very used to suing my laptop, but want to learn more about the Droid so I can keep up-to-date while on the move.Two things have already stumped me. I can't open some word documents and some I can, and I can't remember the other. Told you I was stumped.Any help would be appreciated.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've used the default alarm clock that comes stock with the phone. Since I only need the alarm clock for weekday reminders, I'd prefer that the pone just vibrates or allows me to choose a more soothing "alarm" tone.
The only tones available for this alarm clock are extremely annoying and loud "alarms" that are not suitable in the classroom. (No, I am not a college student, but rather a principal at a private school.)
There are many ways to make the stock alarm clock work, but I can't find any of these settings.
I'd like to change the stock alarm clock program to simply vibrate with no alarm noise.
I'd like the choice to add a more quieter alarm sound, or lower the sound of the alarm ringer.
I'd like to change the functions of the buttons on the side of the phone--default settings are to snooze the alarm I guess? By the time I get the phone out of my pocket, one of the side keys are pressed, dooming to another annoying sound in exactly 10 minutes.
I am loving swype, especially since I only have one arm (the others in a cast). Is anyone else having issues with the word list not popping up when you double click on a word? This has never worked for me. I have the newest version.

There's a bug in my network code so that when the server's not available the Android client tries over and over to connect. On 1.5 (emulator) this results, within a minute, in an "Excessive JNI global references" error where the leaked object is a small (20 byte) boolean array. The same code on emulated 2.1 runs for as long as my patience lasts. Is there any possibility the leak is in my code and not an Android bug that's been fixed since 1.5?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAt some point early on in my SF ownership, I accidentally pushed something that gave me a keyboard and word prediction that I like SO MUCH more than the little black box word prediction with Swype. I didn't download a 3rd party keyboard or anything. Problem is, I've somehow hit something again that has brought the black box popup word prediction and a different keyboard back. I've messed with every combination I can think of in Language and Keyboard, but can't seem to get the other keyboard back.
The keyboard I currently have is the one that has the letters and symbols on the same key. The one I like has just the letters on the keys and a symbol button to push to get just the symbols. The word recognition I want has a bar right about where you type that gives you suggestions and you can touch the suggestion you want and it will insert (it has the most likely suggestion in red, I think).
I make so many more typing mistakes with the black box prediction/current keyboard. Can someone tell me how to get the other way back?
Is it just me or is rovio advertising a little too much in their Angry Birds game? I've cleared all levels and working on getting three stars in a few levels that I have just two stars in. I get a VIDEO ad after every 2 or 3 games. That is really annoying.The advertising was not so excessive until I had not cleared all levels. It just got too much after that.
View 32 Replies View Relatedone of my other issues with my newly acquired X10 is its apparent heavy CPU usage. I would go so far as saying that the phone is close to unusable when it has just booted. So here goes my findings. I've installed a program called CPU Usage (quite logically) which monitors CPU usage for various tasks on the phone. Here is what I get when the phone has just been booted:
PID / Name / CPU Usage
954 / Sync Feeds/Checking Service/Setting Storage/Android System / 39-58% (No, I'm not kidding)
1054 / Download Manager/DRM /23-31% (still not kidding)
1171 / Face Recognition Service / 11-12% (not as bad, but still, why is it even there???)
The worst thing is that these services don't stop using the CPU - no, they keep on running and using CPU in the designated ranges, unless I kill them. So I go and kill them using another program I installed...................
I just got the shock of my life when I looked at my data counter and found that I'd used 3x my monthly allowance, and about 6x more data than I normally use. I've not installed any new apps recently, all that is different is that I upgraded to Froyo about a week ago. I even removed Facebook, due to the battery issue, so I have no idea what is suddenly consuming so much data. Can anyone recommend an app that will show you what is actively using your data connection, or can tell me what has been using the connection recently? I really need to find out what the app is, and kill it, as I've had to disable my data connection to prevent any further costs. FWIW, been looking at the phone this morning, and the data connection is constantly live, so whatever it is, it's using data all the time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since I installed the Android 2.1 update I have noticed a significant increase in my battery depletion when I am using the camera app. This is even if I am using the camera app for a very short period of time. For example, I might take three or four shots in the course of two minutes and my battery drain would be on the order of 7% - 8%. This is way more battery drain from the camera app than I ever witnessed when I was using it with Android 1.5.
I also noticed on the battery status screen, where you can see how much percentage of your total battery life that various apps and system processes are using, that the camera app skyrockets up to over 90% of the total usage every time I use it for a few minutes.
I'm writing an Android game that needs to receive touch events. My problem is that, whenever the user drags their finger along the screen, so many touch events get sent to the touch event handler (which I think runs as a separate thread) that my frame rate plummets! What's the best way I can limit the number of touch events that are handled per second? For example, if my game runs at 60 fps, I really shouldn't need more than 1 touch event being handled every second. Can I do this is a way that doesn't lose any information (i.e. important information about where on the screen the user touched last)?

I accidentally 'cleared' this home screen, yet when I attempt to put back icons for shortcuts, they're all tiny computer icons. Is there a way I can revert this screen back to original large shortcut icons?

I am creating a game and have pretty much got my head around the OpenGL environment. View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Verizon Android by LG and it came with no manual. I mean there was something, but it was so basic, that it was practically useless. I kind of learned how to move around things and how to make it work, so now I have some concept how to work with my phone. However, there are some things I cannot figure out.
Is there a manual how to navigate and customize the appearance of the OS?
For now I have two simple questions:
1. There is a system bar with some icons on the top of the home screen. On the left there are three icons:
(a) one red with a white person in it,
(b) one with a sheet of bent paper going into something, and
(c) one I don't get and which came up right now - red phone handle and a white arrow bouncing of it. And the last one is puzzling me, because it just came up.
Is there a manual that explains all that?
Another thing - I am getting beeps every once a while, telling me that something is happening. I look - sometimes it's a missed call, sometimes a notification on Facebook, sometimes a new message, and sometimes it is something I have no clue where to find it. I really need a manual. Badly! Plus the phone goes black and locks after one second all the time, even when I am still not done with things, and makes me have to unlock it too often. Is there any complete and comprehensive manual that really teaches me how to use and customize the system?
