Samsung Fascinate :: Changing Boot Animation Using ADB - No Success
Oct 16, 2010
I've tried using ADB to push bootanimation.zip to my phone. The file copies properly without error but doesn't take affect when I reboot. I also downloaded the free version of Boot Animation from the market. It too reports success but doesn't actually change the boot animation. Has anyone had any success changing their boot animation?

I am posting this thread to see what people would like to have as boot animations. I probably won't have time to make all of them, but I plan on trying to make a few of the top requests.
Also, if you have boot animations you have made, or links to someone else's boot animations that you like and think others would like here, please post those links! No sense in going through all that trouble for one that's already made!
*Important!*
When posting links to boot animations, PLEASE specify whether it is an animation that doesn't work with the Fascinate and you'd like us to try and make it work, OR if it has been CONFIRMED to work specifically with the Fascinate, just so people know.
I will be posting links to some more of my favorites soon, but for now, this is my current favorite. I did not make it, and when I find out who did, they are going to get a big, fat thank you from me! It's awesome, and battery friendly to boot. (no pun intended)
Fascinate Boot Animation Links (confirmed to work):
Windows 7 Boot Animation
Spinning Droid (thanks to Saps for link and Natems from MyDroidWorld for creating it)
Fascinate Shutdown Animation Links(confirmed to work):
Reverse Android Scribble Shutdown (thanks to Saps for reversing, testing it, and the link)
Links to more links:
Bootanimation.zip links on XDA (thanks jamesnmandy)
Please post the quickest link possible to the actual "bootanimation.zip" file, or whatever they've named it, and if possible, please credit the producer for his/her work. Keep in mind that some links might point to download files that require membership/registration in order to allow you to download it.

I just installed LeeDroid 2.2b on my Desire. When it starts, there's a screen that looks like a PC Bios screen that shows stuff being loaded. It plays R2D2 noises. That's followed by an ASCII Android picture and the LeeDroid logo. I'd like to remove all of that. Especially the R2D2 noises. I downloaded some boot animations and here's what I did:
- Created a folder called "local" in the "data" folder. (there was no "local" folder already, nor a "system/media").
- Dropped a bootanimation.zip into the "local" folder of the SD card, via USB (Windows). File was present on that folder.
- Rebooted
- Nothing happened.
Is it even possible to change LD's boot process? (I'm not sure if the BIOS screen is an animation or its actually calculating stuff, and will bork everything if removed). If Root Explorer, Android Mate or something like that works, great, as I'd prefer not to have to mess around with installing drivers and all that sdk stuff! But would they do anything different then I already did via USB, since I am able to place the file anywhere on the FAT32 partition? (Although if the boot file needs to be on the ext3 partition or otherwise outside fat32, that's another story.....). I wonder, has anyone succeeded at changing the boot process in LeeDroid?

I'm running Kangerade 2.2 rom and downloaded the goodies pack thats available. I tried to change my boot animation. It shows that the boot animation was switched to the folder but the old one stays. Do I have to manually delete the old boot animation first?

I have the VanillaDroid ROM installed on 2.1 v2. My phone is rooted. But I don't like the boot animation that came with the ROM, so I decided to change it. In every tutorial I've seen, people mention a "bootanimation.zip". However, I can't find it anywhere on the phone. But I did find the "bootscreen" folder in "/system/media/" with the bootup animations in it. I assumed that if I swap out the animations for the new ones, it would work (reasonable enough right?). Not really. Apparently, I deleted everything in the bootscreen folder, but when I try copying stuff into it from the memory card, it can't find any directory on the memory card through the "adb shell" stuff.
I know the folder with the bootscreen animations and stuff exists on the memory card, but apparently the shell commands say it doesn't exist. So now my phone boots up with no animation or sound. Its nice to have a quiet boot, and it does seem to start up a little faster, but I want a boot screen again. I know if I reflashed the ROM, it would come back (or at least should). But I don't want to have to reset and redownload all my apps and stuff, especially since I have just got everything the way I want. Is there anyway to get the bootup animations back without reflashing? And if I would reflash, since its the same ROM, would I need to do a factory reset?

I saw a sweet boot sequence posted on. I believe XDA or Android Central, but for the motorola droid X. I got the file, tried to locate a boot animtion file to replace the new boot animation with, and it isn't there. They have a samsung boot and samsung boot repeat. I renamed both of them to bkp files and placed the new boot animation.zip in there(what they did with the motorola). I couldn't get it to work. Anyone know how to get rid of the Galaxy S and replace with other boot animations?

My android is rooted. It tethers, plays live wallpapers, it does all the other fancy tricks it's supposed to, I can even switch up the boot animations without having to flash the internal memory each time (use the boot animation changer app from the market-- you can go into the downloaded folders and switch what screens are actually shown-- cut-n-paste), but how do you CREATE boot animations?? I understand the whole "slide show of *.png" files, I'm lost at the disc.txt file. Does anyone know what each set of numbers represents? I've fiddled around with this and every time I've put something together, it just don't work. I've got the droid screen followed by the Decepticon symbol spinning around, I've got the one that forms the Decepticon out of pieces, then goes to the matrix rain. I want the symbol to form, then have the spinning symbol. So far, when I piece it together the screen stays black. Any recommendations? I'll post the zip file when it's done, has tons of potential!

I've seen the Motorola Droid users doing this, but I'd like my own custom animation for the boot up screen on the Galaxy. Anyone know how you go about that? I tried copying a bootanimation.zip file in there as per the Droid instructions but looks like the Galaxy doesn't use it. Where are the boot up screen/animations stored on the Galaxy?

I'm using the Fascinate and LauncherPro (free).I've dropped shortcuts (by long pressing home screen, add shortcut) to my favorite Apps around the home screens.Well, after a reboot the shortcut custom/built-in icons 'disappear.' They become stock android icons. After some troubleshooting, I noticed that if I open up the [place where all the apps are stored] and long press dragged them to the home screen I want, they will retain the proper icon after reboot.

I bought this phone whilst on a business trip In Shenzhen china.
It's was running 4.2.9 jb. 2gb ram 16gb rom 5" screen 1080p
I put 3d chain fire on it and now it's stuck in the boot animation.
I borrowed my friend phone, same as mine and loaded up mtk droid and it generated a backup of his phone with loads of files system folder, boot.img etc
It then packed it up into a zip file. From there I thought I could put the zip file on an sd card and boot into recovery and delete the data / cache and them select install from sd card. But the installation failed

I rooted my samsung for the first time Friday (worked out great). I just installed Rom Toolbox Pro & was looking through the features (I should of backed up first thing!) & decided to install a custom boot animation (big mistake!). The boot animation worked fine but even though the phone boots up & actually works, the screen is stuck in the boot animation state & will not bring up the home screen.
I've tried everything (actually learned quite a bit) using CWM to install boot animation disable zips, clear all kinds of caches, & even clear data & factory reset (lost everything). Even used odin3 to install Jelly Bean (originally ice cream sandwich 4.0.4.) & still this f$%^ing boot animation will not clear off the screen.
The phone still works to where I can answer & if I flip it on the side I can use the voice app with the home key to see half the screen (scrolling is a pain) but if I click to the home screen the dam boot animation takes over the whole screen again.
The firmware updates & zip files don't work. Is there a full android system out there to restore it or some way easy to get my home screen back. I really don't want to turn it to a brick if possible.

Read this on egadget so I quickly copped em and installed em on my epic. The live wallpapers are pretty cool, especially the Jump To Light Speed.
Here is the original link from the engadget article:
Droid 2 R2-D2 boot animation, live wallpapers leak out at light speed -- Engadget
And here is where you can download the live wallpapers and see them in action:

And here is where you can download hte boot animation, if you are so interested. I don't know if we can change it yet though.

So I think I have returned everythingto Stock on my phone after using Odin. The symptoms on the phone seem to be that everything works fine when I first reset it ... and then after a re-boot I just get the Fin "Download Unsuccessful" from the app store over and over. I suppose I can bring my newly purchased phone back to Verizon and swap it...

So I was at work today browsing the market and suddenly my screen went black. I tried pressing the power button to wake it but got nothing. After a few minutes of waiting, I pulled the battery. The phone will boot past the "Samsung", "Galaxy S" and "Verizon" screens, but gets stuck on the Verizon one for a while then goes dark. The soft buttons on the bottom stay lit. That's it. I've probably done it 10-15 times through the evening now, and I get no farther.
I wasn't doing anything particularly taxing at the time, and I haven't added anything recently that would have caused a change in any system files. I'm running voodoo v.2 with the OCLF (because it won't uninstall) and all has been well for almost six weeks now... then all of a sudden this happens.
I'm thinking maybe I need to learn exactly what Odin is and how to use it, but any help that you can give would be great.

I was rooted and and had lagfix on my fascinate. Then I decided to download the new update from verizon today. After the update the update screen kept on popping up even after I already installed it. Then I found out that my apps that require root like autokiller and setcpu did not work anymore even though I still hade the superuser app. So I rooted my phone again restarted it and the apps worked again then I decided I wanted to do the clockworkmod installation thing so I could make my phone flashable, the instructions recommended that i remove lag fix so I took my phone plugged it into the pc and went to my ryan lagfix folder whatever on my desktop and clicked on the unlagfixme.bat thing and at the end it had some errors or something even mentioning the Innopath Activecare in it which was for some reason probably why it didnt work. So I decided to try it again and it didnt work. Then I rebooted the phone and I saw the samsung logo and then black screen!

I just updated from R5 to R7 and I'm still having issues with the GPS. Specifically I'm using Google Maps/Navigate and they can't seem to find my location. The first day I flashed R5, it took a few minutes, but Navigate eventually locked on and started working. I just let it run for 45 minutes and it couldn't locate. Has anyone else has any trouble or success with GPS in the 1.6 ROMs?

This has been driving me nuts since I got the phone. It would almost connect to my machine then just bog down and fail. Someone mentioned using a better USB cable and I tried it out of desperation. It WORKS! Apparently the USB cable that ships with the Epic 4G is kinda crappy. I plugged in the brand new cable and it just plain worked.
