Just found this out over at the XDA forums, that to change the boot animation and sound, you go to /system/customize/resource/ and it's named VZW_boot animation.zip and for the sound it's named VZW_Droid.zip..

I just installed LeeDroid 2.2b on my Desire. When it starts, there's a screen that looks like a PC Bios screen that shows stuff being loaded. It plays R2D2 noises. That's followed by an ASCII Android picture and the LeeDroid logo. I'd like to remove all of that. Especially the R2D2 noises. I downloaded some boot animations and here's what I did:
- Created a folder called "local" in the "data" folder. (there was no "local" folder already, nor a "system/media").
- Dropped a bootanimation.zip into the "local" folder of the SD card, via USB (Windows). File was present on that folder.
- Rebooted
- Nothing happened.
Is it even possible to change LD's boot process? (I'm not sure if the BIOS screen is an animation or its actually calculating stuff, and will bork everything if removed). If Root Explorer, Android Mate or something like that works, great, as I'd prefer not to have to mess around with installing drivers and all that sdk stuff! But would they do anything different then I already did via USB, since I am able to place the file anywhere on the FAT32 partition? (Although if the boot file needs to be on the ext3 partition or otherwise outside fat32, that's another story.....). I wonder, has anyone succeeded at changing the boot process in LeeDroid?

I'm running Kangerade 2.2 rom and downloaded the goodies pack thats available. I tried to change my boot animation. It shows that the boot animation was switched to the folder but the old one stays. Do I have to manually delete the old boot animation first?

I have the VanillaDroid ROM installed on 2.1 v2. My phone is rooted. But I don't like the boot animation that came with the ROM, so I decided to change it. In every tutorial I've seen, people mention a "bootanimation.zip". However, I can't find it anywhere on the phone. But I did find the "bootscreen" folder in "/system/media/" with the bootup animations in it. I assumed that if I swap out the animations for the new ones, it would work (reasonable enough right?). Not really. Apparently, I deleted everything in the bootscreen folder, but when I try copying stuff into it from the memory card, it can't find any directory on the memory card through the "adb shell" stuff.
I know the folder with the bootscreen animations and stuff exists on the memory card, but apparently the shell commands say it doesn't exist. So now my phone boots up with no animation or sound. Its nice to have a quiet boot, and it does seem to start up a little faster, but I want a boot screen again. I know if I reflashed the ROM, it would come back (or at least should). But I don't want to have to reset and redownload all my apps and stuff, especially since I have just got everything the way I want. Is there anyway to get the bootup animations back without reflashing? And if I would reflash, since its the same ROM, would I need to do a factory reset?

I've tried using ADB to push bootanimation.zip to my phone. The file copies properly without error but doesn't take affect when I reboot. I also downloaded the free version of Boot Animation from the market. It too reports success but doesn't actually change the boot animation. Has anyone had any success changing their boot animation?

I wish I was good with animation. Thinking it would be cool to have a stylized "2.2" zoom in and break a pane of glass to reveal a flaming droid eye behind the now broken pane.

I was able to change the boot animation before Froyu using the procedure at http://androidforums.com/tips-tricks-evo-4g/109120-how-install-new-boot-animation-without-root.html.After Froyo, I've tried to push the zip file as VZW_bootanimation.zip and bootanimation.zip to both /data/local and /system/customize/resource (I can't write to that location, I think it's for rooted phones only). None of these four options worked. What am I missing? That native boot animation is nasty.

So last night I decided to try and change my boot animation but when I restart my phone I still have the stock verizon one. I have received the 2.2 update and not sure if that matters. And I was wondering what are the requirement to make a boot animation. I'm a huge UFC fan and would love to have a .gift of a fight or something.

I've got a rooted HTC Incred running Froyo...how do I change the boot up animation/sound? Specifically, I'm looking for a way to change it to the Nexus One's boot up animation. During my search, I came across the website DroidBoots.com. It seems that it only caters to the Motorola Droid, but does anyone know otherwise?

Was just curious if anyone knew if you could get the Motorola Droid boot animation on the Inc? I have been fooling around with the live wallpapers alot and thought it would be pretty cool to get the boot screen on this to. I already have the Droid sounds on here.
Answered my own question, if others are curious on where you can go for boot animations here is a good site.

Is it possible to completely remove the boot animation? I'd have to assume the phone would boot faster, and anyway, I don't need all these flashy things and sounds playing when I turn on my phone.
I thought about just removing the zip file thingy whose name I can't remember, but won't that just make it do the default animation?

Okay so some of you have probably figured this out but since it took me so long and I finally ended up pulling apart the Jager .zip install file to figure it out, here's now you do it.
Go look at any tutorial you want for making a boot animation, I'm not going into those speciffics here.
Instead of putting your first animation pictures in the folder part0, put it in the folder 'android'
In desc.txt you need to change the second line from 'p 1 0 part0' to 'p 1 0 android' substituting your loop number and frame delay appropriately of course.
Now just make sure you push bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 to /data/local (this is NOT on the SD card but you can push to it without superuser)
To check to make sure it's working, do adb shell and use the bootanimation command. You can get out of it with a control-c (the audio will play but the screen will probbaly still timeout so if it goes blank just hit the power button).

I followed all the instructions on the other really long thread. I am having one issue though. I installed SDK and the drivers, that all went perfect. The only issue I am having is with the actual bootanimation.zip. I am thoroughly stuck. After I download a bootanimation.zip it shows up in winrar with 4 files (loading, eye, android, and the desc.txt) I know it has to go in tools. I am just not sure how? Do I add each folder or is there a way to add them all? I also know the name has to be bootanimation.zip. I tried a few different ways and pushed it to my Inc. But I cant get it to boot with the animation.

I'm new to the droid world but catching on quickly. i have a droid incredible, rooted and updated radio and running sky raider 2.5.2. i am trying to use a custom boot animation from droid boots. i have tried using adb and it puts the file in data/local but the problem i have is it still runs the one in system/media. i bought the root explorer app and followed another guide to pasting over top of original zip in system/media but then i get a message saying the file being pasted is too large and cannot be completed. i reboot and it hasn't changed still says sky raider. i know its a boot animation but i dunno its something for me to play around with.

I've got CM6 on my phone right now and I'm trying to change the boot animation using Root Explorer. I've used Root Explorer to change the boot animation on the stock 2.2 Rom. When I try to change the boot animation in CM6 it won't go through. I know the boot animation is located in system/media/boot animation.zip and I choose Mount R/W and it still won't change it. Do I have to use another method to change it?
