I'm an exchange 2003 administrator and just got a captivate yesterday.
I can get email addresses out of our GAL on exchange no problem. I can't figure out how to search the company directory/GAL for phone numbers though.

Has anyone figured out how to access your MS Exchange company directory on the Epic? My co-worker who has an Evo is able to when he goes to compose a new message, he has the option to search the company directory. But I do not on the Epic.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I got my Droid X, it had an app that let me search my company directory (Exchange) for numbers and email addresses. I think it was just called Company Directory or Search Company Directory.Today, I go to look for it, and the app is gone. I'm pretty sure I didn't manually uninstall it. Did it go away with Froyo for some reason (not sure if I used it since the OTA update)?UPDATE: Turns out, Corporate Directory doesn't exist as a separate app anymore, but the functionality is still there. Just go to Contacts and then hit the search button. Type in the name you're looking for, and after entering at least three characters, you'll see the option to search your company directory below all your phone contacts.
Good job, Google, on taking something as simple and easy to use as the Corporate Directory app and hiding it's functionality deep within the bowels of the phone in a place almost impossible to find.I knew I could search my company directory with Eclair because there was an app for that right there on the phone. If I didn't know it must be possible somehow I wouldn't have scoured the internet for the answer, and probably would never have known the functionality existed. Why must you hide big stuff like this, Google? Oh, why?
I've set up my Desire to synch email, contacts and calender with Outlook. All seems to work fine except when I try to lookup a contact from the company directory. It never finds anyone. This worked on my old WM device. Am i doing something wrong or is there something I need to do to synch the directory first?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI searched the Activesync threads and haven't found this issue, hopefully someone can help me out. I have Activesync working fine, able to receive and send emails, have all of my contacts and calendar items. Works flawlessly, other than the Company Directory. When I search for someone in the Global Address List using the Online Directories and then Company Directory I get the person, their email, Company and Title but no phone numbers. I have used a couple of iPhones and they return all the info and accessing the OMA page and searching returns all the info. Any thoughts? I looked at the logs on the OMA sever (also our OWA server) and show no errors in the Event viewer or the IIS logs and VZW was completely useless.
View 21 Replies View RelatedIn the latest version of Google Maps for Android, is there a big search box at the top of the map that you cannot hide? I saw this on a Captivate at the ATT store and it didn't look like there was a way to hide it. This would definitely keep me from upgrading from my current version, 4.3.0. Can you guys take a look and let me know if it's something that can be hidden?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe company directory is still not working in Android 2.2 at least on my EVO 4G. But the good news is that you dont need it to work. There is a better way. I kept thinking that Google was supposed to be the king of searching, so I could not accept the fact that you cannot atleast search by company name. After doing some digging I found out a way to find contacts by company name.Press the "+" sign next to "Phone" on your home screen then select "Widgets" next select "Google Search" then select "People" and place the search bar on your home screen. Now you can search your contacts by name, company, number, etc. You can select the contact and see the full contact info for that individual and dial the number from there. You can also have the search pull up related email, texts, etc. when you search for the individuals name.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen using the smart search function of the dialer or searching in contacts my Magic only searches numbers and names, not company names.I have hundreds of contacts that are just companies (airlines, couriers, etc. etc.) with no specific contacts at that company.Those contacts are effectively inaccessible on my phone now as the only way to find them is to scroll through the hundreds of blank contacts to find what I am looking for.When I synchronized contacts with my HTC magic, any contact with a company name, but nothing in the 'Name' field had the word 'unnamed' added to the name field.The only work around I can see is to use Outlook to manually add the company name to each of these contacts and then change the 'File As' field to read the company name.

It hasn't moved elsewhere because I also noticed 2GB more space freed up on the internal SD card. Luckily I backed up 1.7GB+ of it recently. Just a warning for you guys to keep constant backup!

The numbers appear to have area codes from my state but with names like Joe Blow Repairman, they must be a fake. My contacts list is sync'ed with Google Gmail but I don't see these numbers on my contacts list when I log into Gmail. Is this a known virus from an App I installed? What should I do?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had my Captivate for a few weeks now. I've noticed since day one that the search button 'hard button' on the lower right of the phone, mysteriously 'pressed itself'. The first few times I figured I pushed it on accident with my pinky or something. That Is Not The Case. I know I'm not going crazy but every once in awhile, the hard button lights will go on and the vibrate (I have vibrate set to on) will go on and the search will pop up. All on it's own. This happens at least 5 times a day. If not more. It doesn't do it on any one specific page, it does it no matter what I'm doing on my phone. Sometimes I'll literally watch it just laying in my hand when my phone is on and the search will pop up.

But I don't use it, have no reason to use it, and it takes up memory. I've been to the (lack of) settings and can't find anything.I am rooted, but not familiar enough with it to know how to remove the application manually.Using a task killer works for a few minutes, but it takes less than 5 minutes to return on its own.

On my BB I could start typing any info associated with a contact ie. company, first name, last name, phone number and it would automatically start showing any contacts that matched as I typed. On my Captivate I can only search phone number and name. My problem is that I have so many business contacts that I often forget the people's names associated with the business' I work with. Is there a setting that I can change that would allow me to search any info I have in a contact, or is this just how the Captivate searches.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Captivate on the AT&T network and looking into goggle voice. Since the main feature I am interested in (for now) is the visual voice mail, I was thinking of getting the option without the GV number and therefore, keeping my cell phone number. I have several questions:
1. Does this work well with the Captivate phone?
2. Is there any delay in getting the voice mails by going through GV?
3. Does this eat into my data plan at all? Currently, I am only on the 200 mb plan per month.
4. If I try to get text messages through GV, would that not use up my data plan and instead come through my Internet connection ( which could at times be free if I am in a WiFi zone)?
I went to t-mobile and had then down load my contacts from old phone to sim, but left out most of my numbers and all my email addresses . what i want to do is erase all my numbers on my new phone . Then down load my numbers to gmail and then to my phone . I cant figure out how to wipe out all my numbers on my new behold 2 without doing it one by one.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running 4.3 on my AT&T (not sure if that is relevant) Galaxy S3. A few weeks ago I updated it to 4.3 when I saw a message that an update was available.
I keep a lot of work contacts in the phone but over the years I've built a collection of "contacts" that have no first/last name but are simply just a "Company" field with a phone and fax number.
Before 4.3 I could use the keypad in the stock Phone app to spell out company names (e.g. I could pull up the number for "XYZ Widgets, Inc." by typing "XYZ", just like searching for a person's name).
Ever since 4.3 I've been unable to do this. I go into my contacts and they are still shown there. But they do not show up when I'm typing them out. So I have a workaround but it's cumbersome.
Any settings I can change to try to fix this? I took some screen captures of the menu options I have under "call settings" in the Phone app. Link: [URL]
Basically, I receive quite a few text messages off companies who send them using a PC, and so they appear as from the company name, rather than as a phone number. For example, texts from T-Mobile appear as from "T-Mobile". However, for some reason every text I get off a company starts a new thread, rather than all being in the same thread.
