Samsung Captivate :: Search Company Directory / GAL For Phone Numbers Though?
Jul 19, 2010I'm an exchange 2003 administrator and just got a captivate yesterday.
I can get email addresses out of our GAL on exchange no problem. I can't figure out how to search the company directory/GAL for phone numbers though.

Jan 4, 2010Basically, I receive quite a few text messages off companies who send them using a PC, and so they appear as from the company name, rather than as a phone number. For example, texts from T-Mobile appear as from "T-Mobile". However, for some reason every text I get off a company starts a new thread, rather than all being in the same thread.

Jul 10, 2009When using the smart search function of the dialer or searching in contacts my Magic only searches numbers and names, not company names.I have hundreds of contacts that are just companies (airlines, couriers, etc. etc.) with no specific contacts at that company.Those contacts are effectively inaccessible on my phone now as the only way to find them is to scroll through the hundreds of blank contacts to find what I am looking for.When I synchronized contacts with my HTC magic, any contact with a company name, but nothing in the 'Name' field had the word 'unnamed' added to the name field.The only work around I can see is to use Outlook to manually add the company name to each of these contacts and then change the 'File As' field to read the company name.

Aug 3, 2010The company directory is still not working in Android 2.2 at least on my EVO 4G. But the good news is that you dont need it to work. There is a better way. I kept thinking that Google was supposed to be the king of searching, so I could not accept the fact that you cannot atleast search by company name. After doing some digging I found out a way to find contacts by company name.Press the "+" sign next to "Phone" on your home screen then select "Widgets" next select "Google Search" then select "People" and place the search bar on your home screen. Now you can search your contacts by name, company, number, etc. You can select the contact and see the full contact info for that individual and dial the number from there. You can also have the search pull up related email, texts, etc. when you search for the individuals name.

Sep 14, 2010In my app, user writes a phone number, and I want to find the contact name with that phone number? I usually search the contacts like this:Cursor cur = getContentResolver().query (ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI, null, null, null, null); But I do this to access all contacts. In this app I only want to get the contact name of the given phone number. How can I restrict the query? Or do I have to go trough all contacts and see if any has the given phone number? But I believe that this can be very slow this way.

Sep 15, 2009Just downloaded donut sdk and played with global search, very cool, except a small issue. I integrate my application with global search functionality, but global search always shows "More results... xxx (n) " even if there is only 1 result from my application. I've disabled all other applications so that there is enough room for displaying the results of my application for sure. Any hint when it shows result directly and when it shows "More results..."?

Mar 6, 2014I'm running 4.3 on my AT&T (not sure if that is relevant) Galaxy S3. A few weeks ago I updated it to 4.3 when I saw a message that an update was available.
I keep a lot of work contacts in the phone but over the years I've built a collection of "contacts" that have no first/last name but are simply just a "Company" field with a phone and fax number.
Before 4.3 I could use the keypad in the stock Phone app to spell out company names (e.g. I could pull up the number for "XYZ Widgets, Inc." by typing "XYZ", just like searching for a person's name).
Ever since 4.3 I've been unable to do this. I go into my contacts and they are still shown there. But they do not show up when I'm typing them out. So I have a workaround but it's cumbersome.
Any settings I can change to try to fix this? I took some screen captures of the menu options I have under "call settings" in the Phone app. Link: [URL]

Jan 18, 2010I have the sprint HTC Hero with the latest update and when I'm to create a back up it doesn't let me do it. I then tried to downgrade the phone installing the the Sprint RUU and when I tried to install the AndroidSDK drivers I can't get to see the Serial Number of my device when I search in the command bar (following the steps of the Unlock). I'm using Windows XP with Service Pack 2. Any help will be appreciated.

May 24, 2010I've experienced two problems with Google Voice that are causing me to get charged minutes I wouldn't usually get charged. If I can't solve them, I'll have to go back to using my Verizon number. First, let me say that I'm using a new Google Voice number that isn't Verizon cell phone number or any other preexisting number. Second, my girlfriend is on my family plan, but she doesn't have GV yet. We're using the 700-minute plan, so we don't have a friends circle.
Problem 1: When I call my girlfriend's Verizon wireless phone using the GV on my Verizon phone, I get charged, and when she calls my GV number on my Verizon Wireless phone from her Verizon wireless phone, she gets charged. We don't cash in on our free in-network calling. I know, this should have been obvious, but it just never occurred to me until after I looked at the bill. I'd be able to work with that, though, and just select "Call without using Google Voice" or whatever when calling her if it weren't for the second problem. When people call my Google Voice number, I get charged when I don't answer. Usually, it's just a one-minute charge, but sometimes it's two or three minutes (don't know why). With anything less than an unlimited plan, minutes count. Not good.

recently though i have been getting more and more business calls to my cell phone, during and outside of normal business hours.
what im looking for is an app that will take a selective group of contacts/phone numbers/CID strings and if it is a "business" call then forward it to a specific phone number (external number, the actual business line).
I have seen apps on the market and around that will forward calls to voicemail if they match certain filters, but i cant really seem to find an app that will forward to an external number. Any way I could accomplish this?

I would say that Company as a PIM entry is the most elementary feature of a PIM.Today I have a Windows phone (WM5), which has a great PIM for business contacts, with email address, business phone, switchboard phone, web address, company name, business address, private address, etc, etc.On Andoid Market I find nothing similar.It is unbelievable!
