Is it possible to have the screen only come during turns similar to TeleNav? This is a big plus for TeleNav if it doesn't. The battery saved is tremendous.

Anything you guys can think that could help? I've searched around, and found that holding down VOLUME DOWN and Power lets you hard reset the phone, but this doesn't work for me. I hold them down, and the phone just boots up like normal and then shuts off.I rooted it, and it was working fine. Rebooted a few times and then it quit working.

If I press power and look away for a second the screen goes black again. Its liek I have to hit power and jump right on it to enter my swipe code.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI got the samsung captivate for AT&T a couple of weeks ago and have run into a few problems with it:
1) Wifi worked great for a while, but now it says unable to scan for networks and turns the wifi off...this wouldn't be too bad if I had a big data plan but I do not.
2) Battery Life...fml
3) I cannot find ANYWHERE any supporting software to sync media files with my PC
4) The drivers will not install on my computer
5) Way too many apps are using data without me even opening them (navigation, yahoo mail etc...) I have AdvAppKiller but that gets old
It is wonderful having such a wonderful, fast device with 16 gb of memory, but these shortcomings are making me realize why I enjoyed a flip phone for so long.
Tried rooting so I started off flashing r8 of bh_man's 1.6 rom. Went through the setup, odin turned blue to pass and I let the phone run past the android system and then the screen turned off.
Thing about it is that the phone is still being detected by the computer and odin. It's like my phone is on a screen lock but not responding to when I push unlock.
Ive tried every custom rom and each one does the same. I try to go back to stock and most of the time the program closes, when it doesn't I try to flash it and it goes through the process but goes on forever. One time I let the timer go on for 2 hours and it was still on 5/9 completed.
I am new to smartphones and thought that this might be good for others who are new and don't have the unlimited data plan grandfathered in to know.

By default the wi-fi setting is set to go to sleep (and use cellular data instead) when the screen is off, which will most likely happen while you are streaming music as well as other things. To change it so the wi-fi never turns off, to into the phone's menu -> wireless and network -> wi-fi settings -> tap the menu button and select advanced which has an option for wi-fi sleep policy that had been defaulted to sleep "when screen turns off". There you have the option to change it to "never" or "never when plugged in".
I was really taken with the Droid, but for my family, I just couldn't see paying Verizon $50 more a month just to have one, so we are switching to AT&T...
Really liked the "car dock" thing with the Droud X...Does this app work on the Captivate or is there a similar app that works like this?
Anyone knows how I can get rid of Telenav's GPS Navigation app? I can't find a Telenav.apk file or anything similar. The closest I could find is tn55-android-blur.apk, although everytime I tried deleting this one, it keeps coming back. So, (a) how can I uninstall Telenav's GPS Navigation app? and (b) what is tn55-android-blur.apk?

The power button will not turn it on. any help anyone can give me its reallllly annoying update. So it was figured out that is was setcpu that was making the phone act weird, BUT now that there is an overclock kernel out that works(flashed and works perfect) how can i fix the issue of my phone randomly turning off?

During a call, when I put the phone by my left ear, my ear and/or my cheek touch the screen, and though one would expect the buttons on the touch screen to be disabled during a call, when held against the ear and the face, I keep accidentally hanging up calls or in some other occasions, muting, having frustrated monologues to myself, thinking that the other person is ignoring me...
I mentioned using the left ear, because, it seems to have always happened when I held the phone by my left ear and not when I held it by my right ear.
I'm trying to find a more elegant solution, as dropping numerous calls is not an option. (today I dropped more than 15 calls). Any suggestions?
I new here & new to Galaxy which i brought a month ago. I am running JC6 Drakaz. I wondering, may be this is a dum question but can the OSX of Iphone can be installed instead of Android. I thought few things are common like screen resolution, almost similar processor speed. With OSX you will get all multitouch, good performance and of coerce ITunes store.

Sometimes when I shut the slider quickly the phone shuts down. Then today it did it when I set it down on a table, and when I turned it back on the battery went from 42 to 12 percent. I then reset the phone and it was at 24 percent. Is anyone else having this problem? Could the battery just be losing contact?

It sits there for a second and the screen goes black. I have tried releasing the power buttons then and I have tried holding them as well.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo today in glass design I was checking messages when a small ( when i say small i mean you almost can't even see it) piece of glass landed on my captivate. My captivate has the body glove, screen protector and screen protector.When this little piece of glass got on the screen I tried to just rub it off but it cut through the screen protector and put a deep scratch on the actual captivate screen.The screen protector I was using was gadget guard so I definitely don't recommend using that if you plan on it because of how weak it is. I'm also disappointed with the captivates screen. If a small piece of glass barely rubbing on it can leave a deep scratch, I can't imagine what keys could do.You can't really see the scratch, but I'm just super ocd about it and can feel it on my finger every time it's in that area.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a confession to make.One of the first things I did when I got my Captivate was tried to De-TouchWiz it.I immediately got a new launcher and used lockbot to change the lockscreen.Well, what I'm finding out is that there are some things about TouchWiz that I really like.For example I love being able to change wifi settings etc. on the drop down notification drawer.I also love being able to change the brightness by swiping the notification bar.The one thing that I decided to come back to as a UI element is the Lock Screen.I didn't even give it a shot when I first bought the phone and today I've been using it and I love it.The puzzle message system is just a great tweak and I love how you can just move the puzzle piece into the puzzle hole to go straight to that application instead of swiping the whole screen to unlock and go to the home page.I also really like that you can kind of swipe any which way to unlock the screen, as well as the fact that it's transparent to your wallpaper/live wallpaper.All around, bravo to Samsung on the lock screen.I hope others are enjoying it as much as I am.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've noticed in the last few days that my display turns off after 1 minute when idle, even when actively running Googlemaps with directions, etc. This is overwriting the 10 minutes in settings - very annoying.Am also running PowerManager and TaskPanel, but haven't changed any of the settings for ages, so I can't see if these can be interfering.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a HTC Desire which I've become exceedingly fond of.I've read (and been told by a colleague who owns a HTC Legend) that wifi should automatically turn off while the screen is off to conserve battery. I have the impression that I should be able to see the wifi icon turn on as I turn on the screen and unlock the phone. However, I haven't noticed that happening: The icon seems to just be on always.I have then tried observing my router's DHCP table when the the screen is off, but I haven't observed the entry for my phone disappearing (and I don't really know how much time has to pass before the table not showing my phone.Are there any settings that can cause this behaviour? What about programs? I current use smart monitor to log data usage as well as locale (using a SSID plugin and not the locale "location" condition). The only services I can see apart from those I think are OS services, are the ones for locale, smart monitor lite and the SSID plugin.
